What is the source of the price here? The only listed sources are Worldcat and Moshul SF. None of them have the price. If you are adding it, we need the source in the notes. :) Annie 23:16, 30 November 2019 (EST)

Hello, I've accepted your submission, but had to make the following changes:
::Lei 9 - appear here on back cover:--Florin 01:23, 1 December 2019 (EST)
+
* Publisher should have been 1822. That publisher was renamed to just 'Pocket' in 1993 - see here, but we still record all publications under the publisher's original name.

+
* Changed 13-digit ISBN to 10-digit ISBN for a pre-2005 publication
: OK then - will approve and add the note. If this is your book, you can verify so it is clear the information came from you. Annie 01:24, 1 December 2019 (EST)
+
* Changed format from tp to pb - all Presses Pocket - Science Fiction publications are pb
::I'll check in my library today, I don't remember if I bought this book in the past. I know sure, I have this magazine with the novel, CPSF #500.--Florin 01:37, 1 December 2019 (EST)
+
* Added pub series and pub series ID - see the 251, and here for the pub series ID
: On a separate note - what is the point of adding the Author template for authors who do not exist in the DB thus creating links that lead to a search which finds nothing (thus making it look as if there is a mistake somewhere in the linking) and can be confusing to users of the DB? Please check if the author is there before adding the A template to it. Annie 23:23, 30 November 2019 (EST)

* Corrected an Author typo: Elleen Ledbetter --> Eileen
:: I wonder if this does not come from your Wikipedia practices where adding the non-connecting link makes sense because someone can click on it and fill in the page. If that is the case, keep in mind that we are not a Wiki but a DB - and links which seem not to work are not a good idea - especially when they lead to an internal record (or appear to need to) - not everyone understands how the DB works and if you just stumble on this,. it looks like a dead link which needs fixing and/or reporting. Different standards and data organization from a wiki page so the practices are different. Plus when we have a proper translator system, both the linked and non-linked will be moved to their new places - so no point confusing the users of the DB for now. So please check that the page exist before adding the A template. Or any other linking template or a link really. :) Annie 23:36, 30 November 2019 (EST)
+
* Added note to indicate that publication date was coming from Goodreads (and I added that Amazon.FR had it as 1998-07-02)
:::Some translators have written books or essays like Ion Doru Brana, I will add them in the future and there will be no longer dead links.--Florin 01:37, 1 December 2019 (EST)
+
* Also added WorldCat reference while I was at it.
:::: Add the books first. Then connect them. :) Dead link which will one day be non-dead ones end up staying dead links for a very long time (and sometimes forever) :) Annie 01:42, 1 December 2019 (EST)

I haven't added any title series info (as I didn't check very thoroughly), but I guess you could add these and other titles in the Chroniques de Ténébreuse series. Have a look here.<br>
::Again, would've been a good idea if the pages with the translators were created automatically based on this format. --Florin 01:48, 1 December 2019 (EST)

The only thing left to do for you is to variant the individual stories to their English original. Regards, MagicUnk 08:49, 7 October 2020 (EDT)
::: And you can repeat that 100 more times - it won't make it happen by magic. I wish it would but... it won't. The functionality does not exist yet. With a bit of luck, we may see it in the next couple of years or so. We were not even consistently recording translators until 2 years ago or so. Or allowing non-Latin characters anywhere until a bit longer than that. The site is what it is - we do the best of it based on what we have and slowly dragging it forwards to a better international support. It just takes time - especially developer time. == Source notes ==

A quick note: when there is an excerpt, we do not variant it to its complete novel/story/whatever it is an excerpt from - we variant serialized publishing and publishing in volumes but not just excerpts. You can add a link to the complete novel in the notes of the excerpt if you want to. Annie 00:04, 1 December 2019 (EST)

Just a gentle reminder again that every book which is not primary verified needs to have a note with its source. While we can figure it out and add based on the external IDs and links you added, this adds an additional step for any moderator working on your submission (which is partially why some of them stay in the queue for longer than necessary). Thanks! Annie 00:45, 8 October 2020 (EDT)

: And please use the Tr template when adding translators. Annie 00:52, 8 October 2020 (EDT)
:: And if it was one or two, I might have. When it is a repeated problem, I am coming over to work with you. You could have as easily rejected them and added the notes instead of expecting someone to correct the entries. You remember your request for me to add more books from a Bulgarian series? When I am spending my time cleaning after someone else, I cannot do that. If you can do something, don't expect someone else to do it for you based on a note - everyone is happy to assist but leaving homework for people will end up with your submissions staying in the queue for days sometimes just because they take a lot of time - they are already challenging because of the language, adding more hurdles does not help. Of course, if you do not get to it, I will probably go and add the notes because they need to be there but I would rather get an editor to be more independent than do their work for them. :) Annie 01:49, 1 December 2019 (EST)

You are adding valid ISBNs to the catalog ID field instead of the ISBN field. Can you please pay attention to which field you are using? And also - make sure they do not contain non breaking hyphens (which is why some of your are failing verification). All of the books I just approved had to have their ISBNs moved to the proper field... :) Annie 05:58, 1 December 2019 (EST)

Despite us being an international site, the working language is English and all the notes and non-title/author names should be in English. So when adding a birth place, please use the English name of the city/town, i.e. Bucharest and not București. Thanks! Annie 19:31, 11 October 2020 (EDT)
:: It is also easier to leave the data out from any formatted field and dump it in the notes so you do not need to worry about formatting. Except that this is not a wiki page but a database -- and one of the important features of a DB is the ability to find things in places where you expect them to be. So use ISBN Check or another site (or even do a manual calculation on the last character) before submitting and verify them and determine based on that where to put it. Just dumping it into the catalog ID because you do not want to check them is against the principle of a DB and creates more work for everyone else. : Hi, Annie!
::: PS: The correct one here is  973-9162-25-8 and not 973-9126-25-8 (973-9162 is the prefix of that publisher at around that time). * We do not credit CreateSpace as a publisher even when Amazon does. We use the author name (or the actual publisher if Look Inside shows one)

* 8x5 inches paperback means "tp".

* $57.99 is an extremely high price unless we are talking about a very special edition. It is not a list price for sure so in such cases just add the currency symbol.
 +
* The ISBN10/ASIN Amazon link does not go into the external sites.

* Add a date into the notes

* Don't forget to add the story to chapbooks or add a moderator note if you are going to be importing

Korok (first time in 1961 )- is variant of Il cacciatore elettronico  1960
+
Hi.  I accepted your 855304 and decided to make a few changes.  If you object to any of this, please alter it (or reply here that you disagree, and I can do the altering).

--Florin 06:54, 1 December 2019 (EST)
+
* I changed it from OMNIBUS to COLLECTION.  As far as I am able to tell, "'Da Noiz" was not published separately.  It is ok to have a novel-length story in a COLLECTION. We mostly want OMNIBUS for collections containing something previously published as a standalone book.
: Yes, I know - I tend to read the links before posting them somewhere :) But as we cannot have variants of variants, we always need to have one canonical title for the parent - which won't always be what one's book specifies as the source text. We go with first title except when another title had become more popular. If you are planning to make Korok a variant of the new title, I am ok with that - but it should have been mentioned in the notes - I cannot read your mind. Is that your plan? Although I would make the case for Korok being the title the story is known by despite not being the first one..Annie 06:59, 1 December 2019 (EST)
+
* I changed the year from 2008 to 2009The various secondary sources (including the web page you provided and also Worldcat) all use 2009.
::The story was published three times as Korok, I would leave it like that. I have nothing against. --Florin 07:06, 1 December 2019 (EST)
+
* I changed "'Da Noiz" from NOVEL to SHORTFICTION + NOVELLA.  I found several sources describing it as either "mini-novel" or "novella", so I think NOVELLA is probably more likely the length.
 +
* The ISBN-10 had a checksum error. It looked like you used the ISBN-13, but without the leading "978".  Since the secondary sources all use an ISBN-13, I added the 978 instead of correcting the ISBN-10.

While I was doing all of that, I found it on Worldcat and did that verification, and I grabbed a copy of the cover image from Goodreads and added that.  I hope it looks good.  Please review. --MartyD 09:01, 5 September 2021 (EDT)

When you change a date in an existing publication (such as this one), just changing the date on the publication (as you did here is not enough -- the contents already have dates so they won't be changed. So you need to manually change all the dates inside as well (see how I did it here). The only titles that get their date from the publication record are the newly added ones; pre-existing records need adjustments specifically. Thanks! :Okay, I thought it filled in automatically. I'll correct. --Florin 11:46, 4 December 2019 (EST)

:: It does on new publications - as it needs a date from somewhere so if you do not supply one, it will grab the pub one. Once they are created though, the record already has a date so you need to tell it to do it one by one when you want it changed. When they are used in only one publication, it can be done as shown above. When the title is in more than one, you need to do it title by title. Thanks for the quick reaction on this :) Annie 11:56, 4 December 2019 (EST)

Adding New Magazines
A quick note about this submission. Template:AuthorFields:BirthPlace says:

When adding a new magazine/fanzine, please use the number of the magazine "Colecția "Povestiri științifico-fantastice", #50" and not the EDITOR yearly record title as a title for the new publication. This will cause less confusion and a lot less cleanup at the end. And if it is not attended to immediately, the record does not look weird. :) Thanks! When adding a cover image to a publication by adding the URL directly to an image on another site (a.k.a. "hotlinking"), please make sure the site is one of those listed here. If it is not on that list, we may not hotlink to the site. The site you linked to for Mai rău decât moartea is not on the approved list, so I had to reject the submission.

In those cases, you can download the image from the site (here's the link for the cover image in question) and then upload it here. You can find instructions on uploading here. Here's the condensed version:

 +
#Go to the publication page needing the image (in this case, here).
 +
#Click on the Upload cover image link at the bottom of the general information about the publication.
 +
#The Summary field should be prefilled with the correct template. Verify that the information is correct.
 +
#Click the Browse button to open a dialog window that will let you select the cover image file to upload.
 +
#Select the desired cover image file and click Open. This will close the dialog window.
 +
#Once you are sure everything look correct, click Upload this file.
 +
#Once the file has finished uploading, the page for the file should load. Click on the image to be taken to a page with only the image on it.
 +
#Copy the URL (http:// address) from the top of your browser.
 +
#Go back to the publication page and edit it (link)
 +
#Paste the URL into the Image URL field and click the Submit Changed Data button at the bottom of the page.

A few notes about this one:
 +
* URLs which are specific to the edition go into Web Pages and not into the notes.
 +
* Translators should be added in the title notes; they can also be in the Publication notes if you want.

Hi.  For your submission to change the author credit on 2669469 from "Walter Jon William" to "Walter Jon William<u>s</u>", while there is no doubt that "Williams" the correct spelling of his name, ISFDB policy is to capture what appears in the original publication, making the misspelled name a pseudonym/alternate name for the correct spelling.  Here the situation is more complicated, because the title comes from 754113, the sole source of which is a not-authoritative Wikipedia page that could very well contain a typo instead of accurately reflecting the credit in the magazine.
+
Sources, sources, sources
No matter what we think is correct, we cannot have only the "ro.wikipedia" source citation and the "Williams" spelling, as the two do not agree. In this case, where we have no other instances of the "William" misspelling and an unreliable data source (also note for example, others use the correct spelling, such as here), I think it is ok to correct the spelling as you submission does.  But then we need to adjust the notes in the publication to mention that the source has the misspelling and that we have used the correct spelling in its place.  That way, if anyone ever does have a copy of the magazine and finds the spelling to be "William", they will know it is ok to change the record to use the misspelling, instead of worrying about whether there are two editions of the magazine, one with the spelling corrected.
+
When adding a book you are not PV-ing, please make sure you have a "Data from" statement even if you had added weblinks and external IDs. That helps figuring out what was added later and where the initial data came from. See how I added the note here. Thanks! Hello, you've added an ASIN in this submission. Can you explain why you added it to a tp edition? Normally, ASINs are only added to Kindle records. If you need to refer to an ASIN that does not belong to the publication, you can mention it in the notes using the ASIN template. == Source info in notes & chapbook SHORTFICTION title record required ==

Hi Florin, just a reminder to not forget to add the source from where you got the information from in the notes. For example, in your recent submission 758145 I assume the data is coming from printrecarti.ro. However, unless explicitly stated in the notes it is so, there's always the possibility that the data is coming from somewhere else instead. Not a big deal, but thought I'd mention it anyway:)

Another thing to not forget is that CHAPBOOK pubs always require a SHORTFICTION title in the contents section too - I've updated 758145 with a novella-length title record for you. Greetings, MagicUnk 15:27, 22 January 2020 (EST)

Hello, I've approved your Cutezătorii magazine submissions, but I have a few questions if I may. Magazine EDITOR titles require the series field to be filled in. I am assuming Cutezătorii is the magazine's actual name, is it? If so, you can use that in the series field. I'm also confused as to what the number between brackets means. Could you clarify what 37 (103) signifies in the title ' Cutezatorii 37 (103) '? We standardize magazine titles to ' title, date ', or ' title, issue no, date '. If it is the issue number, you could enter it as ' Cutezatorii, #37 (103) ', or ' Cutezătorii, #37 (103), September 1969 ' for example (depends whether September 1969 is the issue's actual release date or not). - see here for some more information. Finally, did you use the images from the cover and contents as sources for the entry, or do you happen to have other source(s)? Thank you very much for your answers! MagicUnk 15:59, 22 January 2020 (EST)

:Hi, MagicUnk. '37' is 37th issue of that year (1969) and '103' is number 103 since the publication of the magazine (in total) First issue -- in September 1967. In this case, I find it easier to use this name, but (I believe) we still have to use the standard ( ' title, date ', or ' title, issue no, date '). I don't have other sources at this time.--Florin 00:43, 23 January 2020 (EST)

:: Ah, sounds like yearly volumes then. You should then either change the title into something like ' Cutezatorii, #103, September 1969 ', and/or add an explanatory note that it is the 37th issue of 1969, 103rd issue since the magazine's conception. Le cycle des légendes

Hello, I've accepted your submission, but had to make the following changes:

 • Publisher should have been Presses Pocket. That publisher was renamed to just 'Pocket' in 1993 - see here, but we still record all publications under the publisher's original name.
 • Changed 13-digit ISBN to 10-digit ISBN for a pre-2005 publication
 • Changed format from tp to pb - all Presses Pocket - Science Fiction publications are pb
 • Added pub series and pub series ID - see the pub series, and here for the pub series ID
 • Corrected an Author typo: Elleen Ledbetter --> Eileen
 • Added note to indicate that publication date was coming from Goodreads (and I added that Amazon.FR had it as 1998-07-02)
 • Also added WorldCat reference while I was at it.

I haven't added any title series info (as I didn't check very thoroughly), but I guess you could add these and other titles in the Chroniques de Ténébreuse series. Have a look here.
The only thing left to do for you is to variant the individual stories to their English original. Regards, MagicUnk 08:49, 7 October 2020 (EDT)

Oh and I've also added NooSFere reference and cover artist :). MagicUnk 09:03, 7 October 2020 (EDT)

Ok, great! Thanks, MagicUnk! About Elleen Ledbetter --> Eileen - I corrected Author typo at fr.wikipedia after I send this submission on isfdb. --Florin 09:55, 7 October 2020 (EDT)

Source notes

Just a gentle reminder again that every book which is not primary verified needs to have a note with its source. While we can figure it out and add based on the external IDs and links you added, this adds an additional step for any moderator working on your submission (which is partially why some of them stay in the queue for longer than necessary). Thanks! Annie 00:45, 8 October 2020 (EDT)

And please use the Tr template when adding translators. Annie 00:52, 8 October 2020 (EDT)

Working language

Hello, Despite us being an international site, the working language is English and all the notes and non-title/author names should be in English. So when adding a birth place, please use the English name of the city/town, i.e. Bucharest and not București. Thanks! Annie 19:31, 11 October 2020 (EDT)

Hi, Annie!
București not Bucharest - confusion with Budapest is avoided :D Ok, next time is Bucharest. Please approve My Pending Edits 4794078, 4794079, 4794081, 4794082 and 4794083; I have to correct Pub Series Armada (Editura Nemira) to Young Adult, and for 4794081 Publication Web Page is [1].
Thanks! --Florin 01:19, 12 October 2020 (EDT)
I just approved a boatload of yours -- so these should give you something to work on. Annie 02:47, 12 October 2020 (EDT)

The Last Safe Place

I approved this one but it needed a lot of work (you do not add a lot of English publications and they do have their own specifics):

 • We do not credit CreateSpace as a publisher even when Amazon does. We use the author name (or the actual publisher if Look Inside shows one)
 • 8x5 inches paperback means "tp".
 • $57.99 is an extremely high price unless we are talking about a very special edition. It is not a list price for sure so in such cases just add the currency symbol.
 • The ISBN10/ASIN Amazon link does not go into the external sites.
 • Add a date into the notes
 • Don't forget to add the story to chapbooks or add a moderator note if you are going to be importing

The result is here. Annie 02:52, 12 October 2020 (EDT)

Series names

When a series name is a common string as "Young Adult", please do not forget to add the name of the publisher to it, even if it seems to be the first one -- the only reason it is the first one is because every other series has the publisher name. Annie 04:55, 12 October 2020 (EDT)

PS: on the question you deleted: if you click on the radio box for publisher as a source, the system will add "Data from the publisher site" automatically :) Annie 04:55, 12 October 2020 (EDT)
Yes, is Young Adult (Editura Nemira). About "Data from the publisher site", I understood, that's why I deleted last message. --Florin 04:57, 12 October 2020 (EDT)
Yup - I changed it :) One more thing on adding translators. The "and/or" when you are not sure which translator did what works for the stories themselves but on the collection/anthology level, it should be "and" only -- they all ARE the translators of the whole book :) Annie 05:43, 12 October 2020 (EDT)
Ok, this is a copy-paste error. --Florin 05:50, 12 October 2020 (EDT)

Limitele spiritului

Hello. I have your submission on hold, as the ISBN 9789731022598 is the same as for Inițierea. Same issue with this one. Could you check?

Additionally, you should not create a new cover art record that then has to be merged afterwards. It is better to import the art record (if it pre-exists of course), one less edit required that way. Use 'Import Content' from the left-hand menu and use the second option. Thanks! MagicUnk 09:20, 26 October 2020 (EDT)

Hi, MagicUnk, is a mistake or two at https://www.targulcartii.ro/, here ISBN for Limitele spiritului (2010) is 978-9731022659; and here ISBN for Atingerea umbrei (2010) is 978-9731022680. --Florin 01:32, 27 October 2020 (EDT)
Accepted and corrected. Regards, MagicUnk 03:43, 27 October 2020 (EDT)

Translators template

Just a reminder - when adding translators, please use the Tr template and not the full sentence. See how I fixed this one. We also do not need the original title in the notes unless it is cited differently to what the book is varianted to. Thanks! :) Annie 18:25, 26 August 2021 (EDT)

Rock me Adolf Adolf Adolf

Hi. I accepted your Rock me Adolf Adolf Adolf and decided to make a few changes. If you object to any of this, please alter it (or reply here that you disagree, and I can do the altering).

 • I changed it from OMNIBUS to COLLECTION. As far as I am able to tell, "'Da Noiz" was not published separately. It is ok to have a novel-length story in a COLLECTION. We mostly want OMNIBUS for collections containing something previously published as a standalone book.
 • I changed the year from 2008 to 2009. The various secondary sources (including the web page you provided and also Worldcat) all use 2009.
 • I changed "'Da Noiz" from NOVEL to SHORTFICTION + NOVELLA. I found several sources describing it as either "mini-novel" or "novella", so I think NOVELLA is probably more likely the length.
 • The ISBN-10 had a checksum error.

Cătălin Teniță

A quick note about this submission. Template:AuthorFields:BirthPlace says:

 • For locations whose name is transcribed differently in different languages, use the English version, e.g. "The Hague" rather than "Den Haag", "La Haye" or "L'Aia"

so I have changed "București" to "Bucharest". Ahasuerus 17:42, 5 September 2021 (EDT)

New Weird

I have your submission on hold as it has the same ISBN as the English edition. This seems weird for a Romanian book to have the same ISBN as the English original. Can you check? Thanks! MagicUnk 12:21, 6 September 2021 (EDT)

Variant vs. Merge

Hello! I hold your submissions, because you want to variant the titles. But if the the title's name and the name of the author are identical, we merge them. By opening the site of an author, you will find in the left bar the option Check for Duplicate Titles and there you can merge identical titles. Regards Rudolf Rudam 08:02, 11 September 2021 (EDT)

Флот вторжения

Hello,

You submitted a mix between two different editions: the 2007 complete novel and the first volume of the 2001 2-volume set (the cover, cover artist and the year belonged to this one; the ISBN and the title belonged to the 2007 edition). Please be careful when there are multiple editions. In addition, the author name was incorrect for both (Гарри Тертлдав instead of Гарри Тартлдав). I cleaned it up and will add the other edition later. The result is here. Thanks! Annie 15:18, 16 March 2022 (EDT)

Ok, Annie, many thanks for help. --Florin 03:41, 18 March 2022 (EDT)

Cover image linking

When adding a cover image to a publication by adding the URL directly to an image on another site (a.k.a. "hotlinking"), please make sure the site is one of those listed here. If it is not on that list, we may not hotlink to the site. The site you linked to for Mai rău decât moartea is not on the approved list, so I had to reject the submission.

In those cases, you can download the image from the site (here's the link for the cover image in question) and then upload it here. You can find instructions on uploading here. Here's the condensed version:

 1. Download the image from the other site (here) and remember where you download the file to (often a Downloads folder, or your Desktop).
 2. Go to the publication page needing the image (in this case, here).
 3. Click on the Upload cover image link at the bottom of the general information about the publication.
 4. The Summary field should be prefilled with the correct template. Verify that the information is correct.
 5. Click the Browse button to open a dialog window that will let you select the cover image file to upload.
 6. Select the desired cover image file and click Open. This will close the dialog window.
 7. Once you are sure everything look correct, click Upload this file.
 8. Once the file has finished uploading, the page for the file should load. Click on the image to be taken to a page with only the image on it.
 9. Copy the URL (http:// address) from the top of your browser.
 10. Go back to the publication page and edit it (link)
 11. Paste the URL into the Image URL field and click the Submit Changed Data button at the bottom of the page.

At this point, a moderator will review the submission for approval. Please let me know if you have any questions or get stuck while you are trying to upload the image. Thanks! ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:52, 16 June 2022 (EDT)

Imagini ascunse

A few notes about this one:

 • URLs which are specific to the edition go into Web Pages and not into the notes.
 • Translators should be added in the title notes; they can also be in the Publication notes if you want.

I fixed these and connected the title to the original while I was around. Thanks for adding it! Annie (talk) 16:26, 8 November 2022 (EST)

Sources, sources, sources

When adding a book you are not PV-ing, please make sure you have a "Data from" statement even if you had added weblinks and external IDs. That helps figuring out what was added later and where the initial data came from. See how I added the note here. Thanks! Annie (talk) 19:11, 14 November 2022 (EST)

Romanian Collection

https://archive.org/details/@vasile_caraus; I was looking at some Roberto Quaglia books and there are missing artists, wrong page counts, etc. in the 3 out of 5 books in this uploader's collection by him that are on ISFDB. So you may want to use those copies to fix or add things and I'm sure there are other books in that huge collection that you entered here that could probably use some fixing and/or adding, too. --Username (talk) 12:46, 6 February 2024 (EST)
