Hello, Fenrix1958, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 04:21, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Changing verified publications

Hello, and thanks for contributing! I have put your submissions on hold. There are two problems, which need to be adressed. Do you have any dependable information that the reviews in question were authored by Alex Hofelich? It seems that the credit wasn't put in lightly, because the publications were primary verified. If that's so, we rather would variant the uncredited item to the actual author, like here. Also, a direct change of a primary verified publication would have needed at first a discussion with the primary verifier per ISFDB etiquette. Stonecreek 04:37, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the information provided on my talk page. According to our policy I'll have to reject your submissions and then variant the review titles. Thanks again! Stonecreek 04:42, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

I was unaware of the tradition of asking permission to make edits. I am certain of the information, but I don't really have the inclination to fight for it right now. Fenrix1958 04:47, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

I think you don't have to fight: as there was no direct intermission into the publication involved (because the varianting was on the level of titles, not publications) I have done the varianting for you. The entry in the publications wasn't changed, but the review titles now show up on Alex Hofelich's summmary page. Stonecreek 05:19, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
And to be clear, you don't have to ask permission to make edits. You should discuss any edits which you want to make to primary verified records with the verifying editor. A simple note on their talk page should be sufficient. Submissions to edit will be held awaiting the outcome of the discussion. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins|talk 06:03, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Robert Bloch: Appreciations of the Master

Hello, I've approved your submission for this pub and merged the two stories by Bloch. Can you confirm that this essay is by FrederiCk Pohl? If so, it will have to be varianted to the canonical name. Hauck 16:33, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

This was a typo. Correction submitted. Fenrix1958 04:30, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Sub approved, BTW can you confirm that it's Phillip Klass instead of the usual Philip Klass? Thanks. Hauck 06:45, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
You are correct. This was a typo as well. Fenrix1958 21:35, 20 December 2015 (UTC); Please see linked discussion which concerns your PV of this book. --Username (talk) 19:51, 27 January 2023 (EST)

Coyote Tales by Jim Bihyeh

I'm holding your submission to add a record for this publication, which appears to be an audiobook in a downloadable digital audio file (based on the Amazon and OCLC listings.) Your submission types it as a digital audio player. That type is used for audio players which are pre-loaded with digital audio file of the book.

Also, you gave Amazon's product number in the ISBN field. The ASIN is neither the publisher's catalog number nor the ISBN and should only be given in the Note field (if necessary.)

Also, you didn't give the required source for the submission's data if it comes from a non-primary source. (I can only assume you're not working from the actual publication since you didn't indicate that in the submission.)

I will accept the submission, and make the necessary changes for it to comply with ISFDB standards. Mhhutchins|talk 21:22, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your help! Fenrix1958 04:05, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

With a Voice...

Submission adding this record was accepted but there a few things that need to be fixed. If you have a copy of the book itself, you should have clicked the button indicating that in the "Source of the data" section of the submission form. Any data in the "Note to Moderator" field is permanently deleted once the submission is accepted so it shouldn't be used for data about the publication, but should be used for data about the submission. You will now have to do a manual primary verification of the record.

Also, you should give the ISBN stated in the publication. All books after 2007 should have an ISBN-13. If your copy doesn't have an ISBN-13 (or ISBN-10), you should give the source for that in the Note field. I suspect that the publication date and price are not stated in the book (as most POD publications) so again you should give the source in the Note field. In this case, it appears to be Amazon. If there is no publisher stated in the book itself, that field should be blank, and its absence should be noted. CreateSpace is a publishing platform, not a publisher, unless it is specifically credited in the publication as the publisher.

Also, the synopsis appears to be a publisher's blurb. That is not the purpose of the synopsis field. It should be concise, non-spoiler, and most importantly, an objective description of the work. If you use someone else's description, you must credit them in the Synopsis field as well.

I'll leave it to you to make the corrections to the record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins|talk 00:33, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

I think I got everything fixed. Thanks! Fenrix1958 03:32, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Sisters of Tomorrow: The First Women of Science Fiction

Hello, I've approved your submission for this publication but made some changes: 1) changed type to OMNIBUS (as there's a NOVEL inside), 2) merged already existing titles. All is left are the texts by Quick (probably this one) and by Tina (likely that one) where, if you confirm that the authors are given exactly as you entered them, there will be some varianting and pseudonym-setting to do. You can also probablbly be more precise in the notes (as you PVed the book, only partial information, perhaps the date, should come from a secondary source like Locus or Amazon).Hauck 19:11, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Agreed on the OMNIBUS. I suspect that when the entry was originally created that sub-content lengths were not known.
I entered the author names exactly as they appeared in SISTERS. This is an academic work, so I suspect strongly that the attributions are as requested by the authors/estates. There's also about a one page essay in front of each story about each author. New pseudonyms would likely be in order.
I didn't change much of the base information on the book, but I'll see what I can elaborate on. My primary verification source is a copy of the book :-) Thanks again for all your help! Fenrix1958 16:33, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
I rejected two edits against this pub as neither edit actually changed anything. If there was something you were trying to do that you need help with, please let us know. -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:08, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

The Secret of Ventriloquism

Hello, I've approved your submission for this book but made some slight changes to conform to our standards (uploaded scan, entered ISBN-13, changed type to tp, merged existing titles), the result is here. Hauck 08:02, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks! Fenrix1958 03:50, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

I have added some additional information to your record for The Secret of Ventriloquism: story lengths and original publication dates. --Vasha 00:02, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

From a Certain Point of View

As this is a primary verified record, you have to discuss it with the PV, as the change of format is a grave change and there are several possibilities: a) PV has erred, b) you have erred, c) the ISBN was used for (or stated in) different formats. I've put your submission on hold while waiting for your action. Thanks, Stonecreek 14:17, 21 November 2017 (EST)

After several days without answer I rejected your submission: it's really not possible to decide which case is given here without your interaction. Stonecreek 14:14, 27 November 2017 (EST)
I checked this out from the library, so I no longer have access to the book. Thanks! Fenrix1958 10:54, 23 December 2017 (EST)

Never Bet the Devil & Other Warnings

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make some changes to conform to our standards :

  • Toned down synopsis (the ISFDB is not an advertising space or a marketplace).
  • Uploaded a scan as we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified website.
  • Regularized "M.S. Corley" to "M. S. Corley" in order to avoid creating a "new" author.
  • As per website, Corley seems to nave done only the interior art.
  • Disambiguated Introduction and Afterword.
  • Merged existing titles (there were 4 of them).

The result is here. You may also want to somehow link the two nearly similarly titled collections (note that one has and and the other & in their titles). Hauck 10:51, 23 December 2017 (EST)

Per the copyright page, "Cover and interior illustrations by M.S. Corley" -- Thanks! Fenrix1958 10:56, 23 December 2017 (EST)
OK, cover artist added and notes amended. Hauck 13:21, 23 December 2017 (EST)

Whispers from the Abyss

Hi, I'm updating the title (not publication) date for Whispers from the Abyss because there was an earlier edition. --Vasha 12:31, 1 February 2018 (EST)

Sisters of Tomorrow

I am in the process of adding the complete contents of the trade paperback Sisters of Tomorrow. When I'm done you can check it out note any mistakes that I have made. I'm doing it in two parts. MLB 23:22, 25 March 2018 (EDT)

Done. MLB 19:07, 27 March 2018 (EDT)
The only thing I noticed missing was the final artist essay. I went ahead and added it. Thanks for all your hard work! Fenrix1958 10:18, 15 April 2018 (EDT)

Godfall and Other Stories

Hi. I accepted your submission of Godfall and Other Stories. A few things:

  • What ended up in the publication notes looks like you probably intended it as a note to the moderator. You may want to review and adjust/remove.
  • Although the ISBN is for the trade paperback, I see in the Look Inside on Amazon that the copyright page does list this same ISBN for the ebook -- it's down near the bottom, in the section talking about the LCCNs. Assuming your ebook matches that Look Inside, you could note that fact. You can also add the LCCN as an "external identifier".
  • For the other versions that you do not have, you can clone the pub you have entered and adjust the entry to reflect those other editions, citing the ebook, Amazon, and/or the publisher's website as appropriate. It's good to record whichever ones we know about. Looks like you can get at least another LCCN for one of these out of the ebook...

If you need any help, just ask. Thanks. --MartyD 21:05, 6 May 2018 (EDT)

I edited the things I have confidence in adding. I would put my expertise level at "hobbyist." Thanks for your help! Fenrix1958 14:36, 2 June 2018 (EDT)

Typo in "Whispers from the Abyss"

On page 33 of Whispers from the Abyss, I think the author name "Oritz" might be a typo. --Vasha (cazadora de tildes) 12:47, 14 July 2018 (EDT)

I checked the book again and the "About the Author" section, and he is consistently referred to as "Martin Hill Ortiz" Fenrix1958 09:27, 15 July 2018 (EDT)

Story lengths

First thanks for adding the story lengths :) Feel free to add them to the regular notes, not just to the moderator notes. This way someone cannot reverse the assignment of the type just because they do not see the length. I've copied them into the few edits I had moderated from you lately. Annie 19:27, 10 September 2019 (EDT)

Will do, thanks! Fenrix1958 20:31, 10 September 2019 (EDT)

The Raid of the Guerilla and Other Stories

Your submission for The Raid of the Guerilla and Other Stories had errors that forced me to have to reject it. I re-entered the publication and you can find it here. The biggest issue was the author credit. Authors should be entered as credited in the publication, even if that credit is a pseudonym. Thanks for find this publication. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:34, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

Excellent, thank you! I struggled with that one as I wasn't sure how to create just an entry for one new short story. Fenrix1958 16:12, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

Out of Water

I approved the update to this one but have one question: Is the Introduction credited as you gave it? If it is just called Introduction, the policy is to record the name as Introduction (Out of Water) instead. Also: I am in the process of merging all those story to their earlier publications. If you open a publication and look in the left menu, you will see an Import link. That allows you to import the existing records as opposed to typing them again :) Let me know if you need more details on that.

Thanks for adding the contents! Annie 16:18, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

It is just "Introduction" so "Introduction (Out of Water)" would be the appropriate name. And thanks for the tip on importing! That will definitely save me some time. Fenrix1958 16:21, 29 September 2019 (EDT)
I fixed it then. I also did all the merging in the Tem book - a few stories did not exist before so you may want to check the spelling just in case :) Annie 16:27, 29 September 2019 (EDT)
One more question: Are you sure that this has a "The" at the start? We have it without and I just checked again that publication - definitely not there. If this one indeed has it, we will need to variant. Also - you may want to add the source of the contents to the note (as it is not Amazon) -- unless you have the book (ARC?) and plan to verify it. Annie 16:32, 29 September 2019 (EDT)
I double checked that one in my ARC, and it has the title I entered. I don't know if it's a variant title or if the original was a transcription error. Fenrix1958 16:36, 29 September 2019 (EDT)
The look inside on the original does not have it for sure. I will variant for now. Small presses do a lot of that - and we always credit as in the publication (with normalization...) :) Annie 16:38, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

Amazon covers

When you have an Amazon cover in the format 51XaRo3VNWL._SX322_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg, you need to drop the part I bolded here, leaving only 51XaRo3VNWL.jpg as the last part of the URL. This is Amazon formatting that we do not need so we strip it. I fixed it in your newly verified - you will also see my comment in the "Changed primary verified" :) I assume you are importing into this one so if you need assistance, just let me know. :) Annie 16:44, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

imports worked exceptionally well, thank you! Fenrix1958 16:51, 29 September 2019 (EDT)
Anytime :) They can be annoying sometimes but they are less error-prone :) Also - if you find a book that has them already imported (a different format for example), you can use Option 1 in the Import screen - and import in bulk. Pretty handy when someone had already done the work. And you can also do it in parts - two Imports from two separate publications can be submitted one after another safely. :) Annie 16:55, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

Guignol and Other Sardonic Tales

Can you check the title page of your verified and confirm that the title there is "Guignol and Other Sardonic Tales" and not "Guignol & Other Sardonic Tales". The ebook definitely uses the latter and I had varianted it for now but if the paper one has it the same one, we will need to merge instead. Thanks! Annie 22:44, 13 October 2019 (EDT)

The ampersand is used throughout - cover, title page, and copyright page Fenrix1958 22:52, 13 October 2019 (EDT)
I will fix all the relevant titles then. :) Thanks for checking! Annie 23:14, 13 October 2019 (EDT)

A Dreath in The Desert

I rejected this submission because you didn't seem to make any changes. Did you mean to change "Dreath" to "Death". If so, make the change and resubmit. Bob 19:46, 25 October 2019 (EDT)

resubmitted Fenrix1958 20:05, 25 October 2019 (EDT)

"A Dreath in The Desert"

Dropping the "r" is fine (although it needs to also be made in the variants) but you are also dropping the quotes :) And this clearly shows the quotes being there while not there for the rest of the stories... And "the" is never capitalized unless it is in the lead. So I approved but then edited to add the quotes and fix the "the" and did the same for the variant. The result is here. Thanks for fixing the typo! Annie 23:13, 25 October 2019 (EDT)

Thank you! Fenrix1958 05:38, 26 October 2019 (EDT)

Tales of Terror

I accepted your addition of the new version of Tales of Terror. However, I made a couple of changes to abide by ISFDB standards:

  • Format: I changed it to tp based on the Amazon supplied dimensions.
  • Price: I added the $. We include the currency symbol as we deal in multiple currencies.

However, when you are entering a new version of an existing publication, it is much easier to use the "Clone This Pub" option (found on the existing publication page). This will copy over the contents, etc. of the additional record and reduce the amount work required. You only need to change the fields that are different (date, publisher, price, format, etc.) Let me know if you have any questions. -- JLaTondre (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2019 (EDT)

Thank you for your help. I can't confirm the contents of the original book, but can the later edition, and will update as appropriate. There are more story titles for the later edition than are listed in the original. Fenrix1958 21:23, 4 November 2019 (EST)

A Little Purple Book of Phantasies

I'm holding your edit to add contents to A Little Purple Book of Phantasies. As this is primary verified, it's best to coordinate with the verifier first in these types of situations. I will leave Ofearna a note. Do you also have this publication? If so, I'd suggest verifying it before making edits so we know you are working from the publication and not a secondary source. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:02, 24 November 2019 (EST)

Thanks for your help. Yes I own a copy of this book. Fenrix1958 23:28, 24 November 2019 (EST)
Edit accepted. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:09, 25 November 2019 (EST)

(A) Wandering Blackness

Hi, you ask "Record: 1357110 is listed in this under copyright page and in table of contents as "A Wandering Blackness" - does this need a variant?". The real question is: What's on the title page? If it is "A Wandering Blackness" too, then it needs to be varianted. If it is just "Wandering Blackness", then it needs to be mentioned in the notes that TOC and copyright page mention another title.--Dirk P Broer 07:30, 9 December 2019 (EST)

It is listed as "A Wandering Blackness" on the TOC and "Previously Published" page and in front of the individual story. Plus also the author's notes and the introduction essay. I'm not entirely sure how to make a variant record. Fenrix1958 22:36, 9 December 2019 (EST)

Graveyard Rats

Here is a small how-to on "How to make variants".

  • Go to the title that you want to make the parent (Aka the original). In this case this.
  • Get the ID of it -- 68321.
  • Now go back to the variant and look in the left menu.
  • Locate "Make This Title a Variant". It will open this for our example.
  • As we have a parent ID, we need option 1. Paste the ID we grabbed into the field "Parent #:" and add any moderator notes you want and press "Link to Existing Parent".

That's it. Would you want to try for this one? :) Annie 17:52, 21 December 2019 (EST)

Completed this one plus one more. Thanks! Fenrix1958 10:40, 22 December 2019 (EST)

Brad C. Hodson

Do you have any sources that link these two? If the connection is solely based on the name, the policy is to add a note until we find a proof - a listing on the author page which contains both sets or a reprint that matches or anything like that. Thanks! Annie 04:52, 26 December 2019 (EST)

I don't have anything direct other than he's not careful about disambiguating the middle initial all over the place. Including stuff on the HWA pages and the lack in his website domain. He's an administrator for the HWA, so would be a very good candidate for writing an essay for their primary convention souvenir book. And I didn't find evidence of another Brad Hodson on the HWA site.

Fenrix1958 19:21, 26 December 2019 (EST)

Good enough for me. :) Annie 21:07, 26 December 2019 (EST)

What the Sodium Lines Revealed

Hello, in your submission you state The Man from Space is 11 pages, and The Prince of Liars is 18 pages, and this story is 19 pages, so it is at least a novelette like those prior two. However, that is not necessarily so as it is quite possible that the 3 pieces of art interspersed with the text cause a reduction of the word count below the novelette threshold. Since Ldb001 has PV'd this publication and has been active quite recently, best to ask him to double check and do an actual word count first (asking an active verifier is always good practice :). I'll keep the submission on hold for now. Thanks! MagicUnk 18:41, 8 January 2020 (EST)

If it is any consolation: Contento's 'Fiction Mags Index' has it a a novelette too.--Dirk P Broer 19:02, 8 January 2020 (EST)
I've approved your submission, but added a note to the title that the length (novelette) is from Contento's. Have a look. MagicUnk 11:53, 15 January 2020 (EST)
Thank you! Fenrix1958 19:34, 16 January 2020 (EST)

As Summer's Mask Slips and Other Disruptions

I accepted your addition of As Summer's Mask Slips and Other Disruptions, but made a couple of changes to match standards:

  • We have this publisher entered under its full name (Trepidatio Publishing)
  • We use the ISBN13 for pubs that were published with them (post-2007 basically)
  • Price should have the currency symbol as we deal in multiple currencies
  • Amazon image links should have the stuff between underscores removed (so .../51TL7kGdKKL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg becomes .../51TL7kGdKKL.jpg)

Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:57, 19 April 2020 (EDT)

Thank you! Fenrix1958 10:58, 19 April 2020 (EDT)

Uncertainties: Volume IV

Thanks for adding this one. I had to do 2 small changes:

  • We have the publisher as "The Swan River Press"
  • We do not have permission to link to their site so I added a cover in our DB. If you would like to add a better scan, feel free to.

Let me know if you have any questions. Annie 13:15, 14 May 2020 (EDT)

That is perfect, thank you! Fenrix1958 22:31, 14 May 2020 (EDT)

The Skeleton Melodies

I'm holding your submission to add The Skeleton Melodies as I have a couple of questions:

  • The format is "unknown". What format are you entering? You have the ISBN of a print version but added a webpage link to the ebook version.
  • Do you actually have this book? You are marking it temporary verified, but it's not out until August.

By the way, Amazon and Goodreads links should not go into the webpage fields. If it's an ebook or an ISBN-less pub, the Amazon ASIN number goes into the External Ids. The Goodreads number also goes into the External Ids. The ids should only be added to the specific editions they are for (for example, Goodreads has different IDs for each edition). I will make the appropriate corrections after accepting once I have the answers to the above. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 16:14, 4 July 2020

I'm working from a digital ARC. Pretty confident it will be an ebook and trade paperback but I can't confirm an point to a publisher page with that info. I'm also fine if this record gets rejected until the publisher puts more info out there. I started putting in data before realizing the footprint for this book was spotty. Fenrix1958 12:31, 5 July 2020 (EDT)
Let's hold off for now. There is a lot of turmoil in the publishing industry at the moment and books are continuing to be pushed out. As details could change before release, we've been holding off on new publications until closer to release. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:03, 6 July 2020 (EDT)

We Are Not These Bodies, Strung Between the Stars

Hello, I have your submission on hold as I am puzzled as to where you got the series number 9426 from ? Right now the titles in the Cthulhu Mythos series in the ISFDB have not a single series number. Since there are no series numbers, I wouldn't add one for this title either. Of course, you can always clarify in the title's note field where the number came from. Regards, MagicUnk 13:11, 9 September 2020 (EDT)

I used the Series Record in the upper right of the page when I click on the Cthulhu Mythos. I got there through clicking on "Venice Burning." If this is not correct, I am not opposed to it being removed. Fenrix1958 22:33, 9 September 2020 (EDT)
Aaah, I see what you've done. The number at the right is actually the unique record identification in the database of the series name 'Cthulhu Mythos', which has nothing to do with the actual series number as entered in the Title record. You'll never need the record identifier, so I've accepted your submission, but removed the number 9426 again :) Regards, MagicUnk 15:27, 10 September 2020 (EDT)

Places We Fear to Tread

Hello. I have your submission on hold for a moment, as I'd like to ask if this anthology's stories are all of speculative fiction nature? (ie, ghosts, monsters and the like, not your regular psychological or slasher horror?). Also, when you copy an Amazon image link, make sure to remove the formatting between '_' (eg _SX331_BO1,204,203,200_ must be removed). Oh, and don't forget the currency -and source if not printed on or in the book- when entering the price :) Thanks! MagicUnk 14:33, 21 October 2020 (EDT)

So far they've all been speculative. Ghosts and forest spirits and such. Fenrix1958 21:03, 21 October 2020 (EDT)
Per the publicity blurb: "26 authors, 26 locations, 347 pages, 100k+ words; original horror stories from many of the genre’s darkest minds. Nightmares imagined into real places; from Nigeria to Japan, North America to Australia. Locations the authors have inhabited and imbued with the sinister–hiking trails, haunted lakes, relics of faded industry, and even a Hawaiian volcano!" Fenrix1958 17:52, 22 October 2020 (EDT)
I've accepted your submission and corrected the image URL (removed the formatting), added currency, made a note date and price came from Amazon (remember, mandatory to add into the notes where the info came from if not from the book itself). Regards, MagicUnk 12:48, 23 October 2020 (EDT)
A reminder for everyone involved here: we standardize both titles (for capitalization) and author names (for spaces). In this case there were two stories whose names needed changes ("Is" and "This" are always capitalized) and two authors who had initials without spaces between them :) All fixed now. I also added the ASIN - see this for an explanation on why we need this for paper books with 979 ISBNs. Annie 03:05, 24 October 2020 (EDT)

Closing Time and Other Stories

Same question for this one. Also, publisher should be Macabre Ink (which we already have in the DB), as that's the imprint of Crossroad Press that has published this pub (can be seen from Amazon's LookInside). Did the info came from Amazon? If so, that needs to go into the notes as well. Thanks! MagicUnk 15:44, 21 October 2020 (EDT)

I'm listening to an audiobook with the same contents as listed on the amazon paperback preview, so all the info came from there. Fenrix1958 21:04, 21 October 2020 (EDT)
Aha, ok. So thes are all speculative fiction too? And could you also confirm where the dates and prices are coming from? Thanks, MagicUnk 15:17, 22 October 2020 (EDT)
Most of what I add to the system is horror, which falls under the speculative fiction umbrella. Here's the amazon page mentioned above - Fenrix1958 17:50, 22 October 2020 (EDT)
I've accepted your submission, and made the following changes:
  • Changed publisher to Macabre Ink,
  • Added currency
  • Removed formatting from image URL (pay attention to this one, as you've made this mistake before)
  • Changed date to 2018-08-14 - You have to add the publication date of the actual printing , not when it first appeared. Here there are at least 4 printings/edition before the 2018 printing.
  • Added note to clarify that data came from Amazon - This is mandatory info that needs to go in the Notes field.
  • Added the {{incomplete}} template
You now can add the contents records as well (when you do, remove the {{incomplete}} template from the notes)
Hope this helps. Regards, MagicUnk 12:44, 23 October 2020 (EDT)

Mysterious Flame

In Never Bet the Devil & Other Warnings, would you mind double checking the story on page 100. Is it "Mysterious Flame" as shown or "The Mysterious Flame"? I'm holding an edit from another editor that would change it, but need your verification. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 10:12, 24 January 2021 (EST)

It is "The Mysterious Flame" in the table of contents and also on page 100. Fenrix1958 00:35, 25 January 2021 (EST)
It has been updated. Thanks for checking. -- JLaTondre (talk) 07:26, 25 January 2021 (EST)

Wicked Women

I approved your submission of Wicked Women, but you need to add information and make some changes. First, the editor you cite is wrong, she's one of the authors of a story in the book. If you click on "three more" in the list of authors, you will see the editor's name. Second, the format is trade paperback (tp). Third, you need to put a dollar sign in front of the price; after all, it could be £ or € or some other currency. You also need to change the cover scan from ",204,203,200_.jpg]" to "]", eliminating the material between the underlines. This is a common problem with Amazon scans. Finally, the Amazon listing has "Look Inside". Use it, and you can likely see the stories and authors who appear in the book. Bob 18:25, 5 July 2021 (EDT)

updated - FYI Trisha is both an editor and author for this anthology Fenrix1958 20:23, 5 July 2021 (EDT)

The Ghost Sequences

Sorry about the delay in processing this submission, which I currently have on hold. I have a couple of questions about the specifics:

The first question is about the "Synopsis" field. As per Help:Screen:NewPub#Synopsis, a "synopsis [is] an optional short non-spoiler plot summary". Additionally:

  • If synopsis from another source like a blurb or a bibliographic note may be used, in whole or in part. If you do, enclose the text in quotes, state the source and include the date.

In this case, the proposed language also appears on, so I assume that it comes from the publisher. If so, then, as per the Help text above, we'll need to "enclose the text in quotes, state the source and include the date."

The second question is about the publication date and the "digital ARC" that you are working from. As the linked submission page shows, the "Date" field displays a yellow warning which says "Date more than 90 days in the future". Normally, we don't create records for books that are to be published more than 3 months in the future. In our experience, they tend to be comparatively unreliable. In the past, paper ARCs distributed by the publisher were especially unreliable due to the changes made prior to the actual publication, but I am not sure whether it's an issue with electronic ARCs.

Based on the above, would you like me to keep this submission on hold until the end of the month, when we could revisit it? Ahasuerus 13:23, 11 July 2021 (EDT)

RE: synopsis - I've always just pulled the publisher blurb in the past without attribution. I'm not trying to take credit for the blurb, but blurbs exist for publicity about the book so people know what they're buying. I'd rather just leave the section blank then to try to attribute a synopsis. Fenrix1958 22:40, 11 July 2021 (EDT)
Sure, that's fine, we can drop it. This particular blurb is on the promotional side anyway, which makes sense since it's a collection of multiple stories. Ahasuerus 11:56, 12 July 2021 (EDT)
RE: live date - We're a week shy of that 90-day mark, so we can either wait another week or push this entry live. Undertow is a pretty reliable publisher, and I can't say I've noticed any major changes from ARC to final version. I was not intending to add anything but the TOC of stories that will be inside, as that's very unlikely to change in the next 90 days. Page count, maybe, but not the lineup. Fenrix1958 22:40, 11 July 2021 (EDT)
Let's wait until we are past the 90 day threshold then. BTW, there is a cleanup report that identifies and flags publications that are more than 90 days in the future, so even if the submission were approved, it would would pop on the cleanup report the following day. I will let you know once I approve the submission on 2021-07-21 or thereabouts. Please ping me if it slips my mind. Thanks! Ahasuerus 11:56, 12 July 2021 (EDT)
Please consider this your reminder. Fenrix1958 00:35, 22 July 2021 (EDT)
Thanks for the reminder! The submission has been approved. Ahasuerus 11:49, 22 July 2021 (EDT)
P.S. As per the discussion above, the blurb has been dropped. Ahasuerus 11:50, 22 July 2021 (EDT)

The Art of Space Travel and Other Stories

A question about your verified. Is it really a US mass market paperback sized? Both and Amazon UK (and the price) point towards it being a bigger book - which will mean "tp" and not "pb". Thanks! Annie 12:22, 29 July 2021 (EDT)

PS: I just saw your note on the original submission. Based on that I fixed the format and added an Amazon cover. One note: "Transient Verification" means "I had my hands on this book but don't anymore" so I know what was on the covers and what was printed exactly and for paper book you literally had the paperbook in your hands. eARC is not the same as the final product so I would not have verified it if I were you. Using the eARC as a source is ok (should be noted in the Notes though); verification not as much. Thanks for adding the book! :) Annie 12:25, 29 July 2021 (EDT)

Tekeli-li, They Cry

Hello. I have your submission on hold as I am wondering where the series number 9426 came from? Isn't it a catalog number of sorts by any chance? Thanks, MagicUnk 14:24, 8 September 2021 (EDT)

I got it from the series record number on this page that the other two in this world are attached to Fenrix1958 18:53, 8 September 2021 (EDT)
Aaah, OK. I see what you've done. Series numbers are never the ISFDB's internal series record ID. Rather, series title numbers are simple sequence numbers to give some order to the titles in a series, not a reference to the series itself - the order can be by first publication date (most common by far), internal history, ... I went back in and removed the series no from the title record. By the way, if you want a reference to another ISFDB record, you can copy the URL of that other page in the notes field. And if you really want to be fancy, you can use html (<a href ="...">text</a>) formatting. Regards, MagicUnk 11:44, 9 September 2021 (EDT)

The Ghost Sequences - Part 2

The ISBN you have here is the one for the paperback, not the ebook (or possibly it got printed in both but it is the one issued to the paperback). Did you mean to add an ebook or a paperback? eARCs often carry the paperback ISBNs so I wonder if this is what happened here? As you had verified, do you have access to the paper version or the e-version of the final book and which of them matches this record. Thanks! Annie 22:16, 14 October 2021 (EDT)

ISBN: 978-1-988964-33-1 is for the trade paperback ($19.99) and I have both MOBI ARC and PDF ARC of the trade paperback, which includes the page numbers. I think I was messily mixing and matching. Thank you for catching this.
Approved - thanks. It happens sometimes - the actual ebook was added and I wondered where is the tp and realized we have it but it is hiding as an ebook. :) Quick question: Where is the 19.99 coming from? Amazon has 17.99 (which may be a reduced price - but when that happens, we tend to add a note where the price comes from (back cover, publisher site, promotional materials and so on). With no source and with a PV book, the assumption is that it is printed on the book? I'd a note a note even in that case. :) Annie 17:20, 24 October 2021 (EDT)
I changed Undertow Publishing to Publications. --Fenrix1958 15:11, 14 April 2022 (EDT)

British Fantasy Award/Best Audio updates

Concerning your submissions [1], [2], [3],[4], you may want to consult with our fellow editors and moderators first if this is the way to go. Please head over to Help Desk or Community Portal and discuss whether an Award should/could be assigned to an EDITOR title record like PseudoPod. Thanks! MagicUnk 08:44, 31 August 2022 (EDT)

Will do, thanks! Fenrix1958 17:13, 31 August 2022 (EDT)
Haven't received not much of a response on your enquiry here. But since Ahasuerus mentioned there's an issue with associating awards with EDITOR records, I've rejected your submissions. If someday in the future it would be clear what to do, your submissions can be easily resurrected by a moderator. MagicUnk (talk) 12:13, 8 November 2022 (EST)
Appreciate your time and effort on this! Fenrix1958 (talk) 10:44, 10 November 2022 (EST)

The Dead Inside

Re: The Dead Inside. You used data from both the eBook and tp when creating and verifying the publication record. I made this the eBook and created the tp. If you meant to verify the tp, just move your verification. If you're not sure how, ask. Thanks, John Scifibones 07:46, 26 December 2022 (EST)

Dusky Ruth and Other Stories

I've approved your addition of this publication, though there are a few corrections to the submission that needed to be made:

  • As the book was published prior to 2007, we need to use an ISBN-10 instead of the ISBN-13. Please see Help:Screen:NewPub#ISBN for more details.
  • We generally don't include "Ltd", "Company", "Inc", and the like in publisher names.
  • Amazon image URLs often contain extraneous characters used to format the image a specific way. This extra formatting needs to be removed from the URL when entering a cover image. Please see the Amazon entry at ISFDB:Image linking permissions#List of sites granting permission for more details.

The Nightmare Box

Hi. I accepted your submission of The Nightmare Box. It should be good for adding contents. I had to make two minor changes that you should keep in mind for future submissions:

  • I added a "$" to the price. Prices must indicate a currency, via a leading symbol or in some cases a trailing identifier. See the help for many details....
  • I modified the URL for the cover image on Amazon. See the Amazon bullet here. Whenever you have an Amazon URL with more than one period in the file name after the last "/", everything between the first period and the last period is formatting information that needs to be removed. You provided . That needed to be instead.
