Welcome!

Hello, JWDijkshoorn, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!MagicUnk (talk) 06:11, 10 January 2024 (EST)

Your questions answered

Hello, and welcome to the ISFDB.
I have cancelled one of your submissions, as you haven't actually changed anything. The second one I cancelled because you need to change both publication and title records - details below. If you want to contribute to the ISFDB, feel free to read through the material provided in the welcome message above.
Concerning your questions:

  • [1] This author is not called 'Cees Pamalot' but 'Cees Pamelot'; in Ganymedes 9 (389378) his name is accidentily written down as Pamalot, but in Ganymedes 10 it has been done correctly. I do not know if/how to fix this quite complicated mess...
    • Willem H has primary verified both Ganymedes 9 and 10 publication records. It is good practice to connect with contributors who PV'd a publication and discuss proposed changes before actually submitting a change. You can reach him on his talk page: User talk:Willem H..
    • What needs to be done to fix this is to create two author records. One with correct spelling, and one with the faulty spelling. Then these need to be varianted to each other (effectively creating an alternate name), as well as varianting the title record so that it states [as by Cees Pamalot].
    • This is done by submitting a correction for Ganymedes 10 publication record - AFTER - discussion with Willem H. Once that correction has been approved (which can take a while, since we're suffering a serious approval backlog), there will be a new author record 'Cees Pamelot', which can then be varianted to A) create the alternate name relationship, and B) create the variant title record
  • [2] This first edition had the word 'Near-Future' added to its title; that was dropped on the other editions.
    • Is this 'near-future' addition also on the title page? If it's only on the cover (and not on the title page), title has to remain as-is. If that's the case, and to clarify the discrepancy, you can update the Notes field to document this.
    • If the title on the title is different from later editions, then we need to create variant title records. This is a bit complicated, but the steps involved are: 1) Unmerge Titles, to get two title records, one belonging to the first edition, and the other belonging to the other editions. 2) Then the 1st edition publication record must be updated (both pub & title records), and finally 3) the later-edition title needs to be varianted to the (updated) first-edition title.

If anything's not clear, do not hesitate to reach out to the community, either on the Help desk page, or Community Portal. Or on my talk page. Let me know if you want me to do the updates (or let Willem do them).
PS. If you would contribute to the database, you may consider primary verifying publication records that you own. This will signify that you have reviewed the data and deem it accurate and complete. Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 06:56, 10 January 2024 (EST)

Thanks for your edit which I've approved, however we have two images for this pub, one of which does not have "Near-Future" in the cover subtitle and the other one does. I don't have my copy to hand, but this may need more research as it may be either a later printing or a slightly different cover for a different territory. In the meantime, thanks for following what's on the title page and not the cover. Any further edits that need to be done, I'll notify you. PeteYoung (talk) 05:30, 24 January 2024 (EST)
