At the Edge of the Woods

When you have a chance, can you add transliteration (and a Japanese book) to this one? I am pretty sure that this is an early edition but not sure if it is the first (and my transliteration skills are not that great with Japanese). Thanks! Annie 15:24, 28 February 2022 (EST)

Done. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:12, 28 February 2022 (EST)

I Am Sleepless: Sim 299

Hello,

The series name is part of the title in your verified. Any objections to cleaning it up? And the same applies to the rest of the series. Thanks! Annie 22:57, 6 March 2022 (EST)

All fixed, and the fourth book in the series added. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 11:49, 7 March 2022 (EST)

Vella and Best Indie Book Award

I am sorry I missed your Community Portal posts re: these two topics back in February. I have posted my thoughts/questions in the respective sections. Ahasuerus 13:36, 8 March 2022 (EST)

No worries. Sometimes that page is flooded with things and it's hard to keep track of everything. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 13:56, 8 March 2022 (EST)

Pyramid Giant

As a verifier of a Pyramid Giant publication. Would you please see this conversation. The question is whether Pyramid Giant is a publisher or a pub series or both. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:14, 18 March 2022 (EDT)

I'll check when I get home. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:30, 18 March 2022 (EDT)

125

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?597801; There's a $1.25 price in one corner and the ID in the other corner ending in 125. If 125 is not also part of the ID, why are there 24 other Popular Library ID's on ISFDB with 125 as part of the ID, plus other different prices included as part of many other ID's? Maybe somebody should look into that and discuss with others what the standard should be. --Username 19:24, 18 March 2022 (EDT)

That's just the way they did things. They had the SBN (the precursor to the ISBN) followed by the price. This was done up into the early to mid 1980s, at least. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:35, 18 March 2022 (EDT)
I know that's how they did things; I've seen it countless times in my 20,000+ edits here. So why are so many paperbacks entered here with it as part of the ID? This 1 book was "fixed", but what about the many others? Maybe they should be "fixed", too? --Username 19:55, 18 March 2022 (EDT)

Silverberg's Through The Time Lens

Hi, I just added a note to this story which appears in this pub you have verified, based on a (currently) ongoing Twitter discussion about who is the writer with the longest career. Hope you don't mind, and perhaps if you have still have access to the book, I dunno if there are any editor's notes or similar that might be more definite about the story's origin? I can see from the contents page in the Amazon preview that it has a 2021 copyright date, so maybe it was never published prior to that anthology? ErsatzCulture 16:07, 22 March 2022 (EDT)

I'll check when I get home. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:34, 22 March 2022 (EDT)
I wonder if anyone has the manual for Starflight? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:37, 22 March 2022 (EDT)
Okay, here's what I've found:
  • The original Starflight game came out in 1986. It was ported to the Sega Genesis in 1991 (specifically May 15, 1991). It's unclear whether "Through the Time Lens" was published prior to 1991, but I found a scan of the manual and verified it. I've updated the title accordingly. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:00, 22 March 2022 (EDT)
Thanks - I'd added a further note to link to the game forum thread, but the info you've added is better than what I gleaned. ErsatzCulture 17:05, 22 March 2022 (EDT)
Looks like Silverberg is 1952-2017 for fiction, based on the content we have. So, 65 years. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:33, 22 March 2022 (EDT)
Possibly - this 2021 collection doesn't have any contents entered, but the copyright page (per Amazon preview) claims that one of the stories has a 2021 copyright date. I'm too lazy to work out which of the stories isn't currently in the database, and too cheap to buy a copy to see if there are any author notes that might explain if there's genuinely a new story or - more likely - if one of them is previously unpublished or a revised version of an older one. ErsatzCulture 17:54, 22 March 2022 (EDT)
I'll have to update that one with my copy. I haven't gotten to it yet. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:57, 22 March 2022 (EDT)
I've updated the contents for the TP publication. There's nothing specific regarding any story that indicates one of them is copyright 2021. Perhaps it refers to the introduction? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:39, 23 March 2022 (EDT)

<< DEDENT >> FWIW, the preview of the copyright page of the ebook says: "Individual Stories: Copyright c 1957, 1965, 1970, 1973, 1982, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1999, 2021 by Agberg, Ltd." The implication of 12 stories, matches the number contents excluding the intro. If try to match those years to what we have for the contents of that pub, I get:

   1957, Why?
   1965, The Sixth Palace
1970, The Pleasure of their Company
   1973, Ship Sister, Star Sister
1982, The Changeling AND/OR The Trouble with Sempoanga *****************
   1985, ?
1988, We Are for the Dark
   1989, Chip Runner AND/OR I Another Country *****************
   1991, ?
   1992, Looking for the Fountain
   1999, Travelers
   2021 ?

I'm guessing the "Thebes..." story needs merging with this Jan 1992 record, which probably accounts for the "missing" 1991 story? (I'd do that merge, but I'm just wary in case you'd left it for a reason?)

That still leaves a mystery on the claimed 1985 copyright, not to mention the 2021 one, unless the latter is indeed the intro. Given that all the contents other than the intro match up in some way with what was already in the DB, I'm inclined to chalk it down to an erroneous and/or misleading copyright page (in the ebook, at least)? ErsatzCulture 17:39, 23 March 2022 (EDT)

It's probably a mistake. The print version has the same line. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:55, 23 March 2022 (EDT)
Goats/Gates -- unless there is a typo in one of those titles (which needs to be checked and not just assumed to be a DB typo), these Thebes stories have different titles :) Annie 17:45, 23 March 2022 (EDT)
Typo, fixed now and merged. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:50, 23 March 2022 (EDT)

The Walrus Master

Hello,

Fixed the author name of this story in your verified book. This (the suffixes) is one of the case when we always bring the name of the author to policy :) Annie 02:41, 3 April 2022 (EDT)

What did you change? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:07, 18 April 2022 (EDT)
Carlton Mellick III -> Carlton Mellick, III as per our very explicit rules on how to record suffixes. Annie 19:33, 18 April 2022 (EDT)
Okay. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:37, 18 April 2022 (EDT)

Sister Light, Sister Dark

You're a primary verifier on this book by Jane Yolen. That was probably entered by Mhhutchins, but his User talk page requests that changes should be reported to other verifiers, and not to him, so here I am. The publication comments include the statement "Includes eight additional pages of music and lyrics titled "The Music of the Dales"...". That collection of songs has been entered separately into the isfdb records as a "short story", apparently by Chris_J in updating "The Books of Great Alta". But since it's in the system, it would seem natural to included it in the contents of this book, and I have done so. I hope that's ok with you. Chavey 11:32, 16 April 2022 (EDT)

Works for me. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:06, 18 April 2022 (EDT)

Future Science Fiction Digest, May 2018

I moved the issue number from the title to the notes in your verified publication Future Science Fiction Digest, May 2018. For future reference, is this too trivial to bother you with? John Scifibones 17:43, 23 April 2022 (EDT)

Yeah no need to notify me for things like that. Thanks, though. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 12:47, 25 April 2022 (EDT)

鏡の国のアリス

When you have a moment, could you please take a look at this Japanese title? I am not seeing any differences between the parent title and its variant, so I am wondering if I am missing something or if they need to be merged. TIA! Ahasuerus 06:33, 1 May 2022 (EDT)

Yeah, they were the same thing. I unvarianted them and then merged them. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 12:54, 2 May 2022 (EDT)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

I accepted this submission and this submission (which impact your verified pubs) per this discussion. The second submission is showing a "Mismatched double quotes" warning, but as far as I can tell that was in the original also. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:23, 8 May 2022 (EDT)

Fixed. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 13:01, 9 May 2022 (EDT)

Shaun Jeffrey

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5310781; There's no date because the story was imported into an anthology with the same date as in this edit, an importation that you approved at the same time that you rejected this. Un-reject this. --Username 19:29, 12 May 2022 (EDT)

I didn't say there wasn't a date. I said you didn't provide a reason for the date change. Please always provide a reason for the changes you submit. Thank you. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:39, 12 May 2022 (EDT)
Also, the importation submissions appeared after this submission, so I had no way to know you had submitted the importations. I work through them in the order they were submitted. This is another reason to include a reason. Something as simple as "It was originally printed in an anthology with an earlier date" would work. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:41, 12 May 2022 (EDT)

Cemetery Dance Artist

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5311260; That's not part of his name, that's a photo studio or something similar, like all the cover artists on ISFDB with / Fotolia after their name. Whoever entered this entered it as if Stone was Wildsmith's last name; he has a separate record with 7 Harry Potter covers. --Username 20:49, 12 May 2022 (EDT)

That makes sense. I haven't run into too many of those myself. I've updated the entry. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:00, 12 May 2022 (EDT)

Legacy of the Darksword cover image

I've uploaded a new scan for the fourth printing of [1] that could match your ISBN based Amazon image for your PVed 1st printing. cover. --Glenn 18:38, 15 May 2022 (EDT)
