Welcome!

Hello, Antunes, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Hauck 05:33, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Vollüspa - Antologia de Contos de Literatura Fantástica

Hello, I've approved your submission for this anthology but made some changes to conform to our standards: 1) slightly changed title from Vollüspa - Antologia de Contos de Literatura Fantástica to Vollüspa: Antologia de Contos de Literatura Fantástica as we use ":" to separate between title and subtitle, 2) changed price from "13€" to "€13.00" (see the Help pages), 3) resized and uploaded a scan into our system as we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified website. The results are here (title level) and there (publication level). Don't hesitate to add any relevant information (e.g. printing rank) in the "Note" field and thanks for contributing. Hello, Hauck,
Thanks for you advices and corrections.
I'm going to try to be as active as possible, specially in what concerned the portuguese authors, and the science fiction and fantasy published in Portugal.
Please, could you help me in resolving this "problem"? I tried to change the data of a author, and at this time the author have two entrances: Álvaro de Sousa Holstein Ferreira and Álvaro de Sousa Holstein. I know he uses mainly the second.Antunes 10:30, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
It means that the second form of the name is (for us) the canonical. To clean up things, I've transferred the data from one author to the other, then make the first a pseudonym of the second and finally varianted all the items to the canonical. The result is a "void" page for the pseudonym here and a "full" page (including pseudonymistic works) for the canonical there. Hauck 12:59, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Álvaro de Sousa Holstein Ferreira

Hello. Concerning your submission to update the Holstein Ferreira author entry, I've had to reject your submissions, since the better course of action was to update the author of the poem and add approprate notes concerning the probable error made by FictionMags, which I've done for you here. See also this discussion. Regards, MagicUnk 12:10, 26 July 2022 (EDT)

Regiana Magna

I've accepted your submission, but there were several issues with it:

  • The editors of an anthology should be entered as the author of the work - not the authors of the individual stories. I've selected Marcelina Gama Leandro and Álvaro de Sousa Holstein as the editors (from the front cover of the publication). Feel free to update if that would not be correct.
  • Synopses are always in English - I've used Google translate to get to an acceptable (I hope) Enlish version...
  • Prices must always have their currency symbol first, and needs to have two decimal digits; 15€ --> €15.00
  • The size of the publication is for tp, not pb. Note that tp is for any paperback for which the dimensions are larger than 18 by 11 cm.
  • The URL for the cover links to a site we do not have permission to link to. If that's the case, upload the cover to the ISFDB instead (which is a 2-step process - first create the record, then use the 'upload new cover' link)
  • Finally, mention the source of the information you are entering. And if you have the publication in hand, consider primary verifying it - PVing a publication signifies the information entered in the ISFDB is as in or on the book you have.

The same applies to this publication. I've uploaded the cover image to ISFDB and added it to the publication. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:18, 27 July 2022 (EDT)

Antarès, Volume 19

Hello Antunes. I have rejected your submission because of the following issues :

• You are a primary verifyer, but the pub format is missing.
• We are not allowed to link with nooSFere, as long as images go. So you'll have to download the illustration from them or another site onto your own computer, and then upload it on ISFDB;
• Your ”note to moderator” is useless here : you will have to indicate yourself the name of the translators for each story on its own title page, using the {{Tr|…}} template, after the submission has been accepted.
• Don't forget you will also have to variant the title of each story, the author of which has an alternate name.

You won't have to redo everything, just click on "My Rejected Edits" (left margin) and work from the rejected submission.

Iskateli: Fanzine de la SF Internationale

Hello, some (or all) things are seriously wrong with this added publication: foremost, the language was set to Japanese, but none of the enclosed titles (or their respective authors) is indexed in that language. Also, several authors are set to 'unknown': we do index 'uncredited' when there's no credit given. Overall, one gets the impression the titles were chosen somewhat arbitrarily, and not as they actually do appear in the publication; see the example where Sexplosion by 'Simon Merril' most likely means Simon Merril: "Sexplosion" by Stanisław Lem (but written in Japanese). Please help in getting this publication record corrected! Stonecreek (talk) 14:26, 26 January 2024 (EST)

It would be great if You could provide this original fanzine to someone who is a Japanese speaker. And contact user Stonecreek to find out how contibutions are to be submitted. --Zapp (talk) 16:26, 26 January 2024 (EST)
I'm happy to help with any Japanese, though someone will have to provide scans since I don't have access to this. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:31, 27 January 2024 (EST)
Antunes, please do contact Nihonjoe when you do add publications that contain Japanese language titles; in most other cases do give a call at the help desk (and please do spend some time in studying the help pages: especially magazines are a kind of special case, and if they are multi-lingual this is emphasized even more). Bibliografia da ficção cientifica e fantasia portuguesa

I have approved your submission, but wanted to make sure you understand how cover images work here. We have a a list of sites that have granted permission for us to link directly to images hosted on their sites. If the site is not on that list (memoriasfc.blogspot.com is not), then you need to upload the image directly to ISFDB by following the directions here. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for helping to improve the site! ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:35, 13 February 2024 (EST)

Additionally, your submission included the full URL in the PORBASE external ID. For this, we only need the number found in the "Link persistente deste registo" popup, which is "2092690" in this case (see here). I've updated the publication to use a local cover image file (see here) and updated the PORBASE link to only include the number. Thanks again for submitting content! Please let me know if you have any questions. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:42, 13 February 2024 (EST)
I also corrected the title (removed the company name from it) and fixed the image (it was pointing to a site where we don't have permission) for Os exilados da Terra. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:09, 13 February 2024 (EST)
I corrected the PORBASE link and fixed the cover image for Sacrifício Abençoado. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:13, 13 February 2024 (EST)
For this publication I aligned the publisher (we already had 'Porto' in the database) and regularized the capitalization of the title. I also added some notes (we do source the information provided in an entry, for example for the date of publication or the cover art credit).
To the title I added the year 1940 & a note that it was likely first published in that year (it was the earliest entry for a publication to be found with OCLC/WorldCat). If you happen to know in which other year the novel was first published, please change accordingly. If you have any questions, please do ask here, at my talk page or at the help desk. El-Rei desejado cavalgando ondas de luz

For this publication, I've removed the PORBASE link as it was an encoded URL rather than the PORBASE number for the publication. Please follow the instructions here for PORBASE to obtain the number that you need to use. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:49, 13 February 2024 (EST)

I did the same for this publication. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:51, 13 February 2024 (EST)

Fénix

Hello, there were several issues with this entry that I hope to have corrected:

1) there were NONFICTION contents, which aren't allowed, I changed them to the regular ESSAYs. BUT one of them was 'Entrevista a André Carneiro': I added an interview content item with this title, please do remove the essay, if it is indeed an interview.

2) The page count for printed magazines has to be dividable by two (and is in most cases dividable by four); see the help pages for details: I set it in this case to 92, which seems to be the most likely one.

3) I added the lengths ('short story') to the respective shortfiction items. Please do remember to add the appropriate lengths to those.

One question: if that is a fanzine, shouldn't it be numbered (for example "Fénix, #1")? Please do leave an answer here and please do consult the help pages and/or the help desk! Stonecreek (talk) 06:31, 14 February 2024 (EST)
