Hi! I've put these submissions on hold to think about if this is the correct way of dealing with them. I may post something about it on the moderator board in a day or so if I don't think of anything. In the meantime could you submit variants for the last two novelettes in the second book[https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?962721]. Thanks![[User:Kraang|Kraang]] ([[User talk:Kraang|talk]]) 23:52, 29 July 2023 (EDT)

Welcome!

Hello, Twisty, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!Kraang (talk) 22:54, 19 June 2023 (EDT)

Skrekkens timer with Invalid ISBN number.

Hi! I've tried several different fixes but the ISBN[1] submitted has 11 digits instead of 10. If this is how it's displayed in the book then I will note the error & move it to a different part of the form. Thanks!Kraang (talk) 23:21, 19 June 2023 (EDT)

Hi! I'm new to this system, so I not sure if this is the right place to write, or if it is another way to communicate with you. Anyway, the ISBN in book is displayed like this: 82-04-00280-02

I don't know if it is a spell error in the book, but it's just displayed like that with 11 digits. Best Regards --Twisty (talk)

Yes this is the best place to respond, as for the ISBN it should have 10 digits, the first 9 help generate the 10th. If I use the first 9 the last number would be "7",so the correct ISBN would be 8204002807. So far all my attempts to use this number have yielded no positive results. Do you know of any data bases where you are that this ISBN might work? I'll make the changes to the pub to reflect the incorrect ISBN. Thanks!Kraang (talk) 21:16, 20 June 2023 (EDT)
Even the ISBN checker couldn't find a Norwegian variation that is known by Amazon. --Zapp (talk) 07:48, 27 June 2023 (EDT)
If you need any help go to the Main Wiki Page and leave any questions you may have on the Help Page. Everybody here has different knowledge in different parts of the database.21:30, 20 June 2023 (EDT)
Hello! Sorry for late reply... I really can't find any solution for this ISBN. --Twisty (talk)
https://bokelskere.no/bok/skrekkens-timer/291039/; This page shows a different book cover so maybe that's where the bad ISBN really belongs. --Username (talk) 10:40, 27 June 2023 (EDT)
Actually I have that book - when checking it, I discover the site you are linking to are using wrong cover for the title. It is a double book, 2 books in one but the two titles are different in it - it is "Hevneren fra fortiden" and "Skriket" that are the correct titles for that cover - it is actually two front covers, one at each side of the book that presents the titles in the book. Anyway - the stories in the book are taken from the same series and is published by the same publisher. It is two ISBN in the book and both are different from the site.--Twisty (talk)
Hello again! According to this site https://www.nb.no/tjenester/standardnummerering/isbn/omregning-10-13-siffers-isbn/, the last number would be 8, so the correct ISBN would be 82-04-00280-8 or 13 digits: 978-82-04-00280-8. Anyway i'm not sure if this will solve the problem... --Twisty (talk)
Forget my last post. 8 for the last number was for the new 13 digit number and you was right about the control numer 7 for the 10 digit number. I read how to find out now, and you already knew how to do it... --Twisty (talk)

Mörkets demoner

I put the valid ISBN-10 from the nb.no into here. If the publication has a different (invalid) ISBN, please put a note. Thank You. --Zapp (talk) 14:30, 27 June 2023 (EDT)

I don't know anything about that - I have the book and just typed the ISBN from the book itself...

I messed up the price currency symbols by the way - so I will fix it when all my other pending edits is finished...

I also see you use format tp on the second run on Midnattsgrøsseren - I have used pb on my new added titles and will fix it when they are added to isfdb. I had to check, and see you was right on both format and price currency symbols - I was wrong hahaha - now I learned after some mess...

There are some pages for help: List_of_currency_symbols and PublicationFields:Format. You can get some more assistance if You open the blue "?" links beside the field description in the edit page. It would be fine to use the signature link, the third one on the edit bar above (looks like xl). Good luck! --Zapp (talk) 22:40, 29 June 2023 (EDT)

Yes, I already checked the info :-)

Edderkoppen

Thanks for adding Edderkoppen. I added the translator template here and made the title a variant to the English original. I wasn't sure if you knew to do this yourself, sorry if you did. A note to mod re: your intentions is always welcome.

There was a problem with your uploaded image, there was no license tag. All images require a license tag. I added one for you. Here is the relevant help section. You need to add tags to any other images you have uploaded. In the future, add the image after the publication has been created, then you can use the link on the publication page and it will create the tag for you. Ask if you have questions. John Scifibones 11:30, 10 July 2023 (EDT)

Actually I don't know how to do a title variant. I can't find any way to do it. I did'nt know about the images license tag either. Twisty (talk)
No worries, I'll help you. Over the last couple days, I have been reviewing all your earlier new publication submissions. Variants have been created and license tags added to your uploaded images. I'll finish this afternoon. The edits I'm making can only be done after a new publication submission is approved. Here are the two edits I made to the title record of this publication.
  1. Add the translator template. Do not type the text. This was the exact entry {{Tr|Helge Skolem}}, the software generated the text.
  2. Link the translation to the original. Here is the submission. This is the relevant help section.
  3. Upload the images. From now on. Go to the publication record and you will see "Upload new cover scan". This will automatically create a license tag while you upload the image.
We have a few conventions when posting on the wiki. Notice how I added a colon to your post and two colons to my response. This automatically indents the posts to make it easier to follow. Take a moment to read general discussion conventions.
Post a note to moderator in new pub submissions you intend to do steps 1 and 2 above. Until then, I'll monitor your submissions and add as needed. John Scifibones 13:04, 12 July 2023 (EDT)

Thanks for the information - I understand I have to learn alot, so I will not upload picture before after I added a new publication. I will take some time reading before I add more titles in hope I don't do so much errors in future... But I am still a newbie so probably I will do some more errors before I get experienced. By the way, I see I still have som pending submissions that are done same way as my other submissions... Twisty (talk)

Norwegian Legend

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5714526; I added some links to Matheson books today and noticed this one you entered recently; it wasn't made a variant of the original English title so I've done that in the above PENDING edit. You may want to add translator to title record because there's a yellow warning about it being missing. EDIT: I see that you entered many books by the same publisher, some made a variant of the English title, some not, so I assume you'll eventually variant all of them; I cancelled my edit. --Username (talk) 18:35, 10 July 2023 (EDT)

Fem fæle fortellinger

I corrected the Publication type of your verified publication. Please check the lengths of the content titles. A few look longer than short story. Thanks, John Scifibones 10:44, 11 July 2023 (EDT)

Speculative Fiction?

What makes all these publications eligible for inclusion? John Scifibones 13:22, 12 July 2023 (EDT)

They appear to be based on the film Cobra. I've never seen the film, and the plot summary doesn't really give any speculative elements. Do the later books in the series have speculative elements? These don't appear to have ever been published in English, so I can't tell. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:28, 12 July 2023 (EDT)
Was going to check with the submitter, the first few seemed fine but the rest appear a bit suspect. Will wait to see what Twisty has to say and if they need to be deleted then they will be deleted.Kraang (talk) 23:18, 12 July 2023 (EDT)
Do the covers have anything to do with the books? This one has a Conan cover[2] on a Cobra series book.Kraang (talk) 23:22, 12 July 2023 (EDT)

I understand why you are suspicious, because these are really strange publications. I think they only are written in norwegian and sold in Norway, but I not sure - they are very hard to get, I just got ten of the twelwe books. I did not read them yet, but from what other have said that read them is:

The only thing they have in common with the movie is the name Cobra. The hero in the book is called Acorn Slaughter, in the film it is Marion Cobretti. These books are very pornographic in content.

The covers have nothing to do with the books - They have used images from Stallone's films, private life and of his then girlfriend Birgitte Nielsen. The story behind these choices could be interesting to hear.

In the second reprint of this book series, they even used picture of Mel Gibson from Lethal Weapon as a front cover for one of the books. Twisty (talk)

Since you haven't read them and can't point to anything that indicates they belong, I think they should be deleted. If you read them and then think one or all belong, they can always be reentered. John Scifibones 13:52, 17 July 2023 (EDT)

Belong to what? I don't understand what you mean. Also about speculative elements - what do you mean? These are books I have - it's not like I making up books that not exist? It's an serie for 12 books with same character in it - it's a synopsis on the back of every book. It is just the covers for the book that are crazy and don't match the content in the books. I don't understand the problem? Is there a point I have missed somewhere? Please explain... Twisty (talk)

This is a speculative fiction website, horror, SF, fantasy, no crime or other realistic fiction. Some major genre authors get non-genre books added if people feel like entering them to make their records more complete but the author of these books is not major. --Username (talk) 14:10, 18 July 2023 (EDT)
As Username noted, the ISFDB catalogs science fiction, fantasy, horror, and alternate history printed works, as well as non-fiction works about those areas. We would like to know if these books have any science fiction, fantasy, horror, or alternate history elements in them. If they do, then they can definitely be cataloged here. If they do not, they should be removed. You can see more at SCOPE. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 14:39, 18 July 2023 (EDT)

Oh my! I did'nt know that - now I feel stupid! Then it not belong, because it's crime/action. I will also remove the Rambo books that is still pending adds. Well, then I will only add science fiction and horror from now on. I'm sorry for the mess I made about this. Twisty (talk)

No apologies necessary, I'm glad you understand. I'll take care of removing them and the image uploads. John Scifibones 18:49, 18 July 2023 (EDT)

Beyond the Beyond variant submissions

Hi! I've put these submissions on hold to think about if this is the correct way of dealing with them. I may post something about it on the moderator board in a day or so if I don't think of anything. In the meantime could you submit variants for the last two novelettes in the second book[3].
