Hello, Aardvark7, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:37, 25 November 2017 (EST)

On the Wheel

I removed the BN number from here because it was the ISBN. When the BN number is ISBN13 or the ASIN number is ISBN-10, we don't record them in the two external IDs - as they are in the ISBN field and we already have live links to them based on the ISBN in the left menu. Annie 20:06, 4 February 2022 (EST)

Not a problem aardvark7 11:15, 5 February 2022 (EST)

Matching Amazons

While is not a bad source here, I'd also check Amazon Italy for any Italian books - the different Amazons may have different data (look Inside in one and not in the other, some extra comments or reviews and so on) so I would check all of them and always list the "proper language one" (plus any others that gave me additional info). Just saying :) Annie 17:18, 22 February 2022 (EST)

I was using links from DuckDuckGo to check different sites. Actually most of the info came from Libroco & Book Depository. I thought I added a link to Luca Oleastri's site but it didn't seen to attach. I can across this by accident.

L'impero dei Mizar is on the site as part of record 1493455 Millemondi Estate 1996 as one of the 3 stories. AShould these be linked somehow?? aardvark7 17:30, 22 February 2022 (EST)

Well, you added on an Italian book so I stopped by to mention that Italy has their own Amazon version as well. :)
Merged now. Next time when we already have the novel, instead of using NewPub, you can use AddPub - then we won't need to merge after it is approved :) Annie 17:38, 22 February 2022 (EST)
I was debating, but since it was a story in a book of a different title, I wasn't sure. My link was missing the h in the href. It goes to his page that shows the art and the cover. aardvark7 17:55, 22 February 2022 (EST)
It is a novel in an omnibus (added as an anthology because of a very old obsolete rule - I am looking into how to fix - as the authors need to be different in that case) :) You cannot use ClonePub (because there was no publication with just the novel) but that is what we have AddPub for :) Annie 18:00, 22 February 2022 (EST)
Clone, Add, New. Multiple pages for the same book (Title, the book, the cover). I keep learning how big and complicated this turkey is!! aardvark7 18:05, 22 February 2022 (EST)

Beneath Nightmare Castle

Regarding this cover. Please upload it again using the "Upload new cover scan" link in the book. That allows us to cross-link a bit if we want/need to (that's why you had a yellow warning message :) ). Thanks! Annie 10:38, 1 March 2022 (EST)

Hi Annie, I thought that is what I did. If I remember I went to the page and selected "upload new cover" then moved the new link to the page.
If not, I just did it. It said it already existed but I told it to save. I did not sub the new link since the words would be the same. Obviously I am not doing something right. aardvark7 13:27, 1 March 2022 (EST)
All good now. I suspect that last time you changed "Destination filename:" in the upload form - thus the weird tag :) One more thing left here - when the image is already there and not by you, you need to edit the Web page and replace the previous uploader name with yours - it is always a manual step - if you see the "already exist" warning, you need to go edit that post upload. Annie 13:31, 1 March 2022 (EST)
OK a question. There are two versions of this book. One has the Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone title in Black and the other in Red. Other than that, the covers look alike. ISFDB has the black letters. The copy I found has red letters. This version is shown on Amazon. It has the same ISBN-10: 0140322388 as the black but fewer pages (256 red vs 400 Blk (per ISFDB data base but black version on ebay has same 256 pg count)). I find both versions on Ebay (US). At least one of the ebay listings with black says it was published in England. None of the other Black or any of the red say, just that they are in English. I found back sides of both versions and they are also the same. (UK, Aust, NZ & Can pricing).
So... if there are two covers and thus two editions, we want both. It is possible that the ISBN was reused but the covers were different in the different countries. If that is the case, clone for that second one. If not - you may just note the difference in the notes. The 400 pages is the pre-loader from somewhere -- and it is possible that the cover may be a preliminary one. So... do some more digging - if you think there are indeed two books, submit the second one ;) Annie 15:23, 1 March 2022 (EST)

One unrelated question. I have a warning saying my page is 77 KB and I should break it up. How do I do this? aardvark7 14:05, 1 March 2022 (EST)

Do you want just a step by step or do you want me to do that for you and give you a step by step? Annie 14:30, 1 March 2022 (EST)
Right now I am recovering from surgery and a bit fumble finger. Could you please step in, then give me a step by step that I can look over?? aardvark7 14:37, 1 March 2022 (EST)
Apparently my fingers were also unhappy with me so sorry for the multiple edits :)
  • Open a new page under your own User page where you want to archive your older messages and go to its Talk (or start from there directly). Just go to your talk page here and add the new page name at the bar (I added "/Archive2017-2021" after some fumbling). Edit that page.
  • Open your Talk page for editing and move the old messages to the new page. Save the new page.
  • Add the new page address to the Archives section I started above under your Welcome (I leave the welcome in place as it has useful things - if you want to move it out to the archived page - go ahead).
  • Save the old/regular Talk page. All done. When the page gets too large again, or at the start of each year if you prefer or even more often, you can do the same -- create a new archive page, move messages, add the archive page to your list of archived pages.
Let me know if I can assist further. Hope your recovery is going well. Annie 14:52, 1 March 2022 (EST)
PS: The link above in Archives will get you to the page but here is the direct link: Archive 2017-2021. Annie 15:02, 1 March 2022 (EST)
OK I just made a new section below this explaining to myself what I think you did. How close am I?? aardvark7 15:14, 1 March 2022 (EST)
You were missing a step :) I added an explanation. Annie 15:23, 1 March 2022 (EST)

new page archive

At bottom of page uder views click on EDIT Create a new section "== name ==". Note this looks like code so copy and paste old archive name then rename. New item will appear in Contents square. I assume you then open new section and old section in seperate windows and copy-paste stuff from old to new section. Then save both.

Nope - this will just add a new entry here on this page... which was only needed that first time so you have an Archives section to collect your Archi links. You need a brand new page. You do that by adding the new name of the page on the address bar - where it says, you make this or whatever you want to call it. NOW you edit that one and copy stuff into it. Once you are done, you go and edit the Archives section above to add the link to the new page so you do not lose the link to it. Let me know if that makes more sense. And my offer is always here - if you rather not deal with that, just ping me when you need an archive and I will be happy to help. :) Annie 15:19, 1 March 2022 (EST)
OK I see where if I take the g\page and add something it created a page that says "You've followed a link to a page that doesn't exist yet." I see where I can edit and add stuff then I can save that page. What I don't understand is how I create the link in the archive section.

I see that I would need to edit the Archives section. I see there is a link saying Archive2017-2021 and if I open that it leads to a page ending in Archive2017-2021. Its think link I don't understand how to make. OR Wait.... If I hit edit the archive section there is code(?) saying "((User_talk:Aardvark7/Archive2017-2021|Archive2017-2021))". This is the link? and if my new page is named Archive 2021-23 I would add to this section "((User_talk:Aardvark7/Archive2021-23|Archive2021-23))". where the ( are brackets. Is that it? aardvark7 15:39, 1 March 2022 (EST)

Yep - that's wiki code so that if we ever move (to https for example), these links are still valid. Just copy what I left there one more time and replace Archive2017-2021|Archive2017-2021 with the name of the new page you created (test|test) for example. The thing before the | is the actual page. The thing after the | is the text appearing on the page here (so you can do "test|And this is my test page" instead of "test|test". If you look at my own page, you will see my multiple archives :) Annie 15:44, 1 March 2022 (EST)
OK! You can teach an old dog new tricks!! Thanks! Now am I opening a can of worms with my Black vs red cover?? aardvark7 15:51, 1 March 2022 (EST)
Not really - if they exist, there is a difference somewhere and we want to know about it :) Go do more research :) Annie 15:59, 1 March 2022 (EST)
Thanks...... aardvark7 16:13, 1 March 2022 (EST)

Capitalization and authors with multiple initials

When adding books, please keep in mind our standardization rules:

  • We standardize capitalization (so "from" is always spelled with small letters unless it is the first word in a title or subtitle)
  • Authors with two initials always get a space between the two initials.

I've fixed it here. You also had the wrong Goodreads ID -- this is definitely a different book. I am also not sure where the date 2005-09-05 came from - both GR and Amazon (which are all your sources) have 2005-09-30 :) All that is fixed. I'd also recommend to use and not just Amazon so it is clear which of the 16 Amazons you are sourcing from (as they may have different data) and I added the price as Amazon did have the list price. Let me know if you have any questions and/or concerns with these :) Annie 20:54, 4 March 2022 (EST)

PS: I also added the series and dated the synopsis here. When copying synopsis or notes from an online source, always add a date - unlike books, sites change so dating when we grabbed the data is useful (Same reason you date the publication notes the way you did it there). Thanks for adding this book :) Annie 20:59, 4 March 2022 (EST)
My mind must have been somewhere. No idea where my Goodreads came from or the date. I was debating on the initials. There is also a Kindle version and a newer print & Kindle with different covers. I will play with those and try to take my time. Found this by looking for art for Dave Seeley. aardvark7 10:38, 5 March 2022 (EST)
OK I have a couple of questions. The current cover has 2 Kindle versions. One is by Realms and the other (1st one out) by Creation House, a self publishing firm. I see them listed as a publishers so I can use them, correct?? Also the second cover in the Amazon Look Inside says "Cover Design by Alexander von Ness". His website says "book covers on steroids". Reading the about me I can't make up my mind, is he also the artists? What do you think? Also in this cover version T. L. Higley is now using Tracy Higley. aardvark7 10:54, 5 March 2022 (EST)
No worries - that's why we have the second set of eyes system. You can look for books based on an artist or author or topic or just see something randomly - we want it. I wish we could have all books but we don't so any missing books are welcome to join us. :)
"Creation House" - if they are credited inside of the book as publisher, yes. Or you can use the Author name as we do with some of the "publishing platforms". As we have it here, you can as well use it - but if there is access to a title/copyright page, check what is actually credited.
Alexander von Ness - The operative word is "design". Unless there is also credit for art, he gets only a note (and yes, it is a slippery road and today's technology can make the distinction meaningless but... for now design credit means no coverart :)
Tracy Higley - So you add the book as NewPub by Tracy Higley and decide which one is going to be the canonical (take a look at their other books to see which is used more often) and then pseudonym/variant accordingly. If you need any help, do let me know. If the later name is the canonical, the dating of the parent titles will need some adjusting but ignore that for now - let's get the books in and connected and we can deal with that later. :) Annie 17:13, 5 March 2022 (EST)
I'll check to see if there is a Look Inside for it. I will also look to see if Higley has a web site with other books. Goodreads may give me a hint since I thought I saw that they were a Goodreads author. aardvark7 17:18, 5 March 2022 (EST)
Even if they are not, Goodreads and OCLC tend to be good options to see what else they have published (unless they have their own site). And Amazon can also be useful for that. If you cannot decide, pick one - we can always reverse :) Annie 17:26, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Cover Artist Rafael Lopez Espi

Hello Aardvark7, I've seen that you have added Rafel Lopez Espi as the cover artist for Die Vampirkutsche. What is the source of your information? Thanks, John. JLochhas 04:20, 23 July 2022 (EDT)

The owner of the original art has it up for sale at

Sorry I should have put you on copy aardvark7 09:56, 23 July 2022 (EDT)

No worries about that. It would have been nice, though, if you had added to the publication's notes and also updated the artwork record. I've meanwhile taken care of that and also adjusted the artist's name to his canonical name. Thanks. JLochhas 10:19, 23 July 2022 (EDT)
Do you know about these sites? .:. .:. .:. They have lots of info on the German books. I am not that up on them but have noticed that there are many of the John Sinclair books not in the DB. aardvark7 20:54, 23 July 2022 (EDT)
Yes, I am aware of the sites, in particular is no longer maintained and has taken over most the material and the users are actively adding. Whilst the publications exist for sure not all of the data is correct, cover credits and publication dates don't always match reality.JLochhas 05:03, 24 July 2022 (EDT)

Vortex ebook

I have this submission on hold. It it is the same as this one. You can add the ISBN and BN link to the existing publication. I'm thinking we will end up standardizing the publisher as 'Catherine A. Wheeler' as more titles are added. John Scifibones 17:26, 19 August 2022 (EDT)

I did them as two items as one is Kindle and one is Nook, 2 different formats of ebooks aardvark7 14:44, 20 August 2022 (EDT)
We only create one record. You can specify the different formats available in the notes. John Scifibones 17:07, 20 August 2022 (EDT)
OK I made a note that the entered title was Kindle and that it was also available as a Nook, so if you want I can or you can kill the other submission aardvark7 17:17, 20 August 2022 (EDT)
You can cancel it. I would still add the BN link. Thanks, John Scifibones 17:57, 20 August 2022 (EDT)

The Transliteration field

I just found quite a few of Russian books added by you where you added a translation into the transliteration field. The field is for transliteration - representing the non-Latin characters with Latin characters and not for translating the words in English. If you are not sure how to transliterate a specific language, just leave the fields empty and someone will fix them later. In addition the artist was credited in English - which will only be valid if the artist's canonical name is in English and they are credited based on secondary sources only and we know the are not credited in the book. I am fixing all books where the cover art was by this artist. If you had done the same for other non-Latin languages, please revisit and/or post them here so I can fix them. Thanks! Annie (talk) 20:09, 10 November 2022 (EST)

My bad. Don't think I have others but will try to watch it in the future. aardvark7 (talk) 11:43, 11 November 2022 (EST)
If you end up adding any more of these, feel free to post on my page with a link to them and I will be happy to help you shape them properly and fix what needs fixing as they are happening. :) Annie (talk) 10:42, 14 November 2022 (EST)
I just happened to find them because of my Pinterest page. Came across the artist, tracked down the books and saw they were not in the data base. This was a rare instance. aardvark7 (talk) 22:04, 15 November 2022 (EST)
Figured that was the case - I’ve seen you working through artists. :) Will sort them out - as long as they are in the DB, we can get them fixed. The offer stands though - if you stumble over another of them, feel free to ask for help (to check them or to assist with adding or anything in between). Annie (talk) 22:09, 15 November 2022 (EST)

Importing titles

Concerning this edit of your, if you want to add missing art records (or any contents title really), you should import the title, instead of editing the pub record and thus creating a duplicate title, which would then afterwards have to be merged with the already-existing one. Importing is one edit, the way you're doing it requires two...
To import, search for the title id you want to import (Title Record #), then display the publication you want to import the title into, and select 'Import Contents' from the left hand menu. I've rejected your submission, and imported the title. See this submission. MagicUnk (talk) 11:29, 25 November 2022 (EST)

Sans concession

Hi, You submitted Sans consession - tome 1 as an English publication, not French - I've corrected that for you (assuming that that's what it needed to be ;)). MagicUnk (talk) 11:37, 25 November 2022 (EST)

My error, you are right it is French, I think i missed the field. aardvark7 (talk) 16:41, 25 November 2022 (EST)

Translator in title record & varianting vs merging

As a reminder, do not forget to add the translator with the tr-template into the notes of the title record. Thanks! MagicUnk (talk) 11:40, 25 November 2022 (EST)
Also, if you have two identical titles that e.g. differ in their dates of publication, then do not variant, but merge instead. Varianting can only be done with translations, or different titles for the same work. If two titles are identical, then merge instead. I've rejected your varianting edit, and merged the titles instead. Result here: Le Dit du sang. Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 11:45, 25 November 2022 (EST)

Question IMHO Le Dit du sang record 3103844 needs to be merged with Blood Ties record 849035.

To do this I would go to Record 849035 and select Make this Tital a Variant, then put in record 3103844 as the parent, correct? aardvark7 (talk) 16:40, 25 November 2022 (EST)

Yes, that's the correct way of doing it (apart from the fact that that wouldn't be called 'merged'. It would be called 'varianting' :) MagicUnk (talk) 10:59, 28 November 2022 (EST)

La trilogie de l'espace

There is a publication La trilogie de l'espace You submitted from an source. The ISBN belongs to "Le roman familial de Freud" by Gabrielle Rubin (OCLC). Your Amazon source here has '2811206469' in its link, that is not an ASIN but the ISBN-10 for this printing. The Look Inside faeture also has a copyright page scan with the ISBN 978-2-8112-0646-8 of the same printing. No extrernal ID entry was found with that assumed erroneous ISBN 978-2228900027. Even google can't find it. Do You have any other source that can verify the existence of that printing? In my opinion this case is an error of and no real existing publication. --Zapp (talk) 05:57, 9 December 2022 (EST)

This is going to sound horrible but can you tell me what submission number that was?? I don't find it in my pending records and I don't see that title in my Pending, Recent or Rejected files. I see the Milady version on NooSFere, along with a BRAGELONNE version from 2022 but with a different cover & ISBN (ISBN : 979-10-281-2091-7). I also see on the site, when you click the Look Inside, its showing the Milady 978-2-8112-0646-8 version. If it is alright with you, I would like to modify the Bragelonne version to the 2022 version that is both on NooSFere AND AND World Cat. aardvark7 (talk) 10:42, 9 December 2022 (EST)
Submission number is 5306426 to be seen on edit history. Go ahead but see the title here. --Zapp (talk) 08:03, 13 December 2022 (EST)
Besides what I have listed above, one other item I see is that on the site where it lists the title as Le roman familial de freud Poche, the cover shown is La trilogie de l'espace. If you click the "Look Inside" it shows the 2022 Milady version of La trilogie de l'espace. I checked world Cat and it has ISBN 978-2228900027 also matching Le roman familial de freud Poche. So I am inclined to agree that screwed up and I fell for it. Like I said above, there is a 2022 Bragelonne version with a totally different cover that I can find on NooSFere AND AND World Cat. aardvark7 (talk) 14:10, 13 December 2022 (EST)
So put some informations into the notes field. --Zapp (talk) 01:20, 19 December 2022 (EST)

Kane, l'intégrale 2

What are you trying to achieve here? The new title record you are trying to create is exactly the same as the old one... Annie (talk) 11:00, 3 January 2023 (EST)

Well I thought I was hooking it up to Darkness Weaves with Many Shades 5153 but I guess not?!? aardvark7 (talk) 14:05, 3 January 2023 (EST)
You pressed the wrong button. :) The Make Variant page has 2 parts: the top one for connecting to existing titles and the bottom one for creating new parents. When using the top part, you should use the buttons in the middle of the screen, not the ones on the very bottom. Do you want to try again or should I fix it for you? Annie (talk) 15:17, 3 January 2023 (EST)
Well I have already killed the old one and resubmitted. Using the top half of screen, Maybe this time?? aardvark7 (talk) 16:40, 3 January 2023 (EST)
That's the only thing I could have done as well - once submitted, a submission cannot be edited. :) Approved. Don't forget to add a translator to the French title (I can see it is in the publication - we need it up on the title level as well, using the Tr template) :) Annie (talk) 18:02, 3 January 2023 (EST)

Problemi di Tempo

I approved this submission. There were two small errors in the the Italian title.

  • Rather than "Translated by Artori Veri" please use the translator template {{Tr|Artori Veri}}.
  • The variant title should have the same length as the parent.

I corrected this one. I'll approve all the rest of your variants for Terra e Spazio - Volume 4. Will you take care of the rest of the Italian titles? John Scifibones 11:05, 18 February 2023 (EST)

Looks like you knew to use the translator template, the one I corrected must have been an aberration. You have incorrectly dated the variants with the year of parent titles. The variants are dated by their first occurrence. You can fix the date and length of all the titles, with one submission, by editing Terra e Spazio - Volume 4. John Scifibones 11:35, 18 February 2023 (EST)
Sorry I missed the trans template on that one, thought I had them all. You are right, I did think the date was when it 1st came out. And my title source, Urania Mania gave that date. OK I can go back to see what is in the db for early appearances of these title and use those. They are all I have to go on and would that be correct? The ones I have looked at are earlier editions of Urania. Or should I leave that field blank? Also I see the length column, sorry i missed that. Let me know what I should do about the dates and I will fix all at one time. aardvark7 (talk) 16:16, 18 February 2023 (EST)
No apologies necessary, this is why we have the review system. Selecting the publication and using 'Check for Duplicate titles' results in no other translations by 'Artori Veri'. We don't care that there are translations by others, they have their own title records. Date all the stories in this publication 2019-09-00. John Scifibones 17:22, 18 February 2023 (EST)

La doppia faccia degli UFO

Hello. Something's not quite right with this publication if you ask me. If it's Contents consists of several novels by the same author, by definition it -has- to be an OMNIBUS, not a COLLECTION. But I doubt it should be considered anything but a NOVEL. I suggest to remove the Prologo, Prima parte, ... Quinta parte novel records from the Contents and only keep "La doppia accia egli UFO" as the sole title. Add the information about the sections of the novel (assuming that that is what these parte are) into the Notes. If you do it that way, you can variant to the original title ("Miracle Visitors") without having the yellow warning. MagicUnk (talk) 08:30, 28 February 2023 (EST)

Oh, and by the way, translators must go into the Notes of title records (optional for pub records). MagicUnk (talk) 08:32, 28 February 2023 (EST)

I updated the publication record some more. Now there's only one Contents title, which I've varianted to the original, and I moved the contents info to the Notes. Have a look and let me know if this is OK. The only thing for you to do is to add the translator to title La doppia faccia degli UFO. Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 03:16, 3 March 2023 (EST)
OK I just dropped the individual contents and just stated there were parts and a prolog. I see I should have also listed them in the notes. aardvark7 (talk) 12:32, 3 March 2023 (EST)

La terra morente

I've accepted your submission, but changed the title type from NOVEL to SHORT FICTION (corresponds with the original, so assume the same for the Italian translation). Note that 'The Dying Earth' is, in fact, a collection. Am assuming that this is the case for this publication as well? If so, update that Contents record to COLLECTION instead. Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 08:40, 28 February 2023 (EST)

Einstein perduto - Nova

I've accepted your submission, but changed type from ANTHOLOGY to OMNIBUS (two Novels from same author). MagicUnk (talk) 08:43, 28 February 2023 (EST)

You wanted to variant an Italian title to a new Italian parent, so I had to reject your submission. What you intended to do was merge the two titles, I guess? Also, are the 1971 and 1973 title both translated by Renato Prinzhofer? (then it's safe to merge) Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 13:56, 28 February 2023 (EST)
I merged the existing Nova title with the new one you've entered. I checked and both editions have the same translator, so are to be the same title record. I've also varianted Einstein perduto to it's English original. Have a look. MagicUnk (talk) 03:38, 3 March 2023 (EST)

Concerning your recent submissions commented above, and this one, make sure to add the translator to the title records. Also, for each of these publications, check for duplicate titles. For example, I parassiti della mente has two title records - see here: I've left them as-is, but you need to determine whether these two were translated by the same translator. If that's the case, merge both titles. For La terra morente, see, for Einstein perduto - Nova, see MagicUnk (talk) 08:50, 28 February 2023 (EST)

After much searching I finally found a site that listed the translator for the 1977 novel. It was the same as my Urania copy Alfredo Pollini. I have 1) merged the files. 2) added the translator to the 1977 version and 3) added the only cover version I can find for that book.
I've approved your submissions. MagicUnk (talk) 14:01, 28 February 2023 (EST)
For La terra morente you are saying I also need to make this an omnibus, correct? Do I interconnect the two somehow?aardvark7 (talk) 09:43, 28 February 2023 (EST)
No, it should be a COLLECTION, as the constituting pieces are also collections (actually, a story and a collection). A story and a collection put together in one volume doesn't make it an OMNIBUS. What you need to do is check whether La terra morente (the title record of the contents section is actually also a collection). I've made it a bit simpler by disambiguating the 2017 publication (and associated collection title), and updated the Contents title type to COLLECTION. Have a look.
What still needs to be done is to merge the 1994 COLLECTION with the 2017 COLLECTION (don't include the OMNIBUS in the merger, that's a different title altogether), after verifying the translator of the 1994 and 2017 versions are the same - see here: Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 14:01, 28 February 2023 (EST)
You actually just confirmed that both COLLECTION titles can be merged as they have the same translator :) MagicUnk (talk) 14:10, 28 February 2023 (EST)
hopefully I did just that aardvark7 (talk) 14:14, 28 February 2023 (EST)
Also things like adding the translator then trying to match titles to earlier one,I get to but since I am not sure what I am doing at times, I end up doing in multiple steps, Sorry... Merging I was not familiar with. Keep learning new stuff all the time. Urania stuff is soooo complicated, see my comments in the Mods Board. aardvark7 (talk) 14:40, 28 February 2023 (EST)
You're doing fine. ISFDB is complicated at times. Also, do not forget to have a look at my messsage above concerning 'La doppia faccia degli UFO'. Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 05:35, 2 March 2023 (EST)
Went in and played with it. aardvark7 (talk) 09:24, 2 March 2023 (EST)

Stations of the Tide

In this submission, you're trying to make a SHORTFICTION title have a NOVEL parent. That's not generally possible since they are significantly different in length. is it supposed to be an excerpt from the novel (and translated into Italian)? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:23, 16 March 2023 (EDT)

This is the complete novel. It seems that the current convention for Urania is that they are Type: MAGAZINE. And this type does not seem to allow novels. Urania, #1642 is basically just a newer reprint of Urania #1236. I just went in and studied how Urania #1236 was entered. The title is listed as "Domani il mondo cambierà (Complete Novel)" and is listed as a serial. Should I go back and do the same for Urania #1642?? aardvark7 (talk) 10:10, 17 March 2023 (EDT)
Yes, probably. I believe there's a discussion happening somewhere right now about allowing NOVELs in MAGAZINE entries. I can't find it, though. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 10:37, 22 March 2023 (EDT)
Found it here. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 10:39, 22 March 2023 (EDT)
I have made my change. It now matches Urania #1236 aardvark7 (talk) 20:52, 22 March 2023 (EDT)

Yin Yum(m)ing

Concerning your recent submission of a French translation using Yin Yumming as artist name; it is best to record the artist's name as it appears in or on the book and then variant it to the canonical name. I've done that for you - see The Dragon Hunter and the Mage. MagicUnk (talk) 07:03, 25 March 2023 (EDT)

Please note that I used the same note about his name on every title version aardvark7 (talk) 09:55, 25 March 2023 (EDT)
That should be fine. However, if you have other publication records where you've updated the artist's name to Yuming, where there was Yumming printed in the book, do update these to reflect what's in the book. Regards, MagicUnk (talk) 08:14, 28 March 2023 (EDT)
I've only seen two books by this author using this artist. Only the one has a foreign version. All use the Yumming name and all have my note. I have not seen any other book cover by this artist. aardvark7 (talk) 07:36, 29 March 2023 (EDT)

Les seigneurs de l'instrumentalité, I

A quick question about Les seigneurs de l'instrumentalité, I, which you added in May 2022. Did you plan to merge the French titles with their pre-existing counterparts? Or did you plan to turn them into new VTs because the translations were revised by Pierre-Paul Durastanti? Ahasuerus (talk) 12:19, 9 May 2023 (EDT)

Actually since this was over a year ago, I had forgotten about this. I don't have a list of who originally translated what, so I would assume it would be best to give credit to Durastanti. Input is always welcome. Also what is a VT? Anything that I end up doing will be after we get back from vacation in 3 weeks aardvark7 (talk) 21:11, 9 May 2023 (EDT)
Sorry about the cryptic acronym! "VT" stands for Variant Title. Making Durastanti the translator sounds like it should be workable. No worries about the time frame and thanks! Ahasuerus (talk) 18:08, 11 May 2023 (EDT)
OK we are back. Used Pierre-Paul Durastanti as the revised translator, and gave credit to the original where I could. Hope this is ok. aardvark7 (talk) 20:04, 29 May 2023 (EDT)

'979' ISBN

We need to add the ASIN for any publication with an ISBN13 beginning with 979. I added them to this one and this one. To see why, compare the result using the Amazon links menu (which uses the ISBN) and the ASIN link I added to the publications. thanks, John Scifibones 15:07, 31 May 2023 (EDT)
