Attwell, O'Neill

Other artists' portrayal of fairies were based on the putti of renaissance painting and the cherubs in the ceiling frescoes of the Baroque period. Charles Robinson favoured this style in his drawings for Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses (1885); Robinson went on to illustrate well over 100 children's books, and a great many artists followed his example in portraying fairies as plump babies with tiny bird-wings. This tendency led ultimately in the UK to the apple-cheeked cuteness of the work of Mabel Lucy Attwell (1879-1964) in her 1921 edition of Barrie's Peter Pan and Wendy and her 1915 edition of Charles Kingsley's The Water Babies and, in the USA, to the awful, chubby-faced "Kewpie Dolls" of Rose Cecil O'Neill (1875-1944).

We now have author Frank Papé, distinct from Frank C. Papé and credited with two coverart for novels by Dennis Wheatley. Those two were published later than our works by Frank C., and we have both cover images showing signature "PAPE" rather than "Frank C. Pape" (which Wikipedia reports for Frank C.).

Wikipedia credits Frank C. with illustrating for Wheatley, these novels as well as a personal bookplate. I suppose he is only one person, and I don't find another candidate Frank Pape at VIAF.

Perhaps the list of works for Dennis Wheatley at SFE3: Wheatley is our only source for the two credits as Frank Papé, both as cover artist.

There is no entry SFE3 entry for any Pape/Papé, and the one Encyclopedia of Fantasy entry EoF: "Frank C. Papé", which does not mention Wheatley. SFE3: Cabell credits some interiors and several covers to "Frank C Papé".

I feel sure that "Frank Papé" is Frank C. Papé 26984. Is SFE3 reliable in the sense that its art credits in Wheatley and Cabell lists of works do imply credits as Frank Pape and Frank C[.] Pape respectively?
