Welcome!

Hello, Laviecestmoi, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 09:10, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Philippine Speculative Fiction vol. 9

Hello, and welcome again. Thank you for submitting this anthology. It looks good, but as there remain one or two questions I have put your submission on hold. Is the publisher stated as 'Kestrel DDM and Flipside Publishing', or are these maybe two different publishers who happened to publish the book separately (in this case we would create two separate entries)? I also guess that you intended the title series 'Philippine Speculative Fiction' but added this to the field 'Pub. series'. The rule of thumb is that a pub. series clings to one distinct publisher, a title (as part of a title series) may be published by any publisher. It'd also be welcome (and we encourage) to add notes to a given publication, especially where the data is taken from: it does make a moderator's job a Little bit easier. Thanks, Stonecreek 09:32, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, there! Kestrel DDM and Flipside Publishing are indeed two different publishers; however, there is no print version and Kestrel had Flipside do the ebook. I took most of the data from Amazon and my own copy of the ebook. I'm not certain where to find the pub. series number, if any, but I'll search again. Laviecestmoi 23:08, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the information! I have changed the publisher to 'Kestrel / Flipside' and transferred the series into the title data (-> title series). I also specified the day of publication to the date stated at amazon. I hope it now looks okay (well, it doesn't for the cover image, the link doesn't work: maybe you'd like to upload an image via the 'Upload new cover scan' button). Ooh, thanks so much! And I'll upload the cover image :) Laviecestmoi 23:13, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Based on a note by Mhhutchins dropped on my talk page it is possible that I misunderstood your answer on the publisher. You stated 'Kestrel DDM and Flipside Publishing' in your initial submission but the ebook may published only by Flipside or Flipside as an imprint for Kestrel. Could you please take a look into what is the case here? Thank you in advance, Stonecreek 06:27, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Chipping in my two cents here, as the editor who added the Philippine Speculative Fiction series nos. 1–8 around a year ago (I have the epubs, just not got around to verifying them yet for some unknown reason). At the time I also was uncertain about the correct publisher's credit, so for those pubs I credited just Kestrel, the rationale being that these publications are usually credited (eg. in PSP #1 and #2) as "This e-book edition published 2012 by Kestrel DDM and Flipside Publishing Services, Inc." with a note added "ePub design and production by Flipside team". From this I surmised that Flipside do the digital formatting for the ePub edition with Kestrel being the publisher, however now that Flipside have a website it's now apparent they are indeed a fully-fledged publisher: there are other similar pubs from the Philippines that do not credit Kestrel anywhere, such as Dean Francis Alfar's The Kite of Stars and Other Stories and Philippine Speculative Fiction Sampler, with credit belonging only to Flipside. I'd suggest that those pubs credited to both Kestrel and Flipside should be credited with an ampersand separating both publishers, as they both appear listed as such in the publications. I hope this info doesn't muddy the waters for establishing the correct publisher/s credit. PeteYoung 10:18, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! I have changed the publisher to Kestrel & Flipside and have also uploaded a cover image. Stonecreek 04:46, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

[unindent] Hi Laviecestmoi, as it's been a week since your last message, with the publication in hand I've assisted by making a few minor modifications to your very competent first entry. All the relevant information regarding this publication are on its first page (listed as "Title page" at the top of the Contents) and "Copyright page" (which is the last item on the Contents).

  • I've added the cover artist, the introduction by Andrew Drilon and Charles Tan, and the ISBN.
  • I've also removed the price, as $3.03 suggests this is a variable internet price rather than a fixed publisher's price.
  • The pub is called "Philippine Speculative Fiction 9" on its title page, (with no "Vol.") and this is what we use for the actual title as opposed to whatever appears on the cover.
  • I've added the story length as "shortstory" to all fiction contents, as opposed to the more general "shortfiction" which appears at the top of the 'story length' drop-down menu. None of the contents appear to be as long as a novelette.

If all the contents as they appear are agreeable to you, you can then verify your publication by clicking on "Verify this Pub" under the Editing Tools on the left-hand toolbar. Click on 'Verified' alongside 'Primary' at the top, and then the 'Submit data' button. We then consider that you 'own' this publication, and any changes an editor wants to make would need to be discussed with you first.

Thanks for doing a great job with your first entry, and you'll certainly learn more about how data is entered when you submit more publications and get all the help and support you need from the moderators. We'd certainly love to see more publications from the Philippines in the database, as I know there are many that we still don't have here. Thanks again for contributing!
