Yellow and black spines

Which 23 publications are you missing? Are you aware of the early black spines? These were the Gregory Kern "Cap Kennedy" novels published in 1973 and 1974. See Publisher:DAW/NoLogo - I don't show "black" but the ones that have black spines are UT1073 to UQ1144. Marc Kupper (talk) 16:22, 2 Mar 2008 (CST)

Marc,

Thanks for the welcome.

Since I made that post, I picked up some missing titles. I am now down to 21:

  • 51 Herck, Paul van Where Were You Last Pluterday?
  • 81 Akers, Alan Burt Swordships of Scorpio
  • 155 Davis, Richard Year's Best Horror Stories: III
  • 265 Strugatsky, Boris Monday Begins on Saturday
  • 286 Sturgeon, Theodore Touch of Strange
  • 326 Moorcock, Michael Lord of the Spiders
  • 374 Vance, Jack The Five Gold Bands
  • 393 Wagner, Karl Edward Year's Best Horror Stories: VIII
  • 417 Vance, Jack Durst of Far Stars
  • 438 Dick, Philip K. Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said (New Cover, 5th Ed)
  • 451 Carter, Lin Darya of the Bronze Age
  • 463 Lee, Tanith The Birthgrave
  • 465 van Vogt, A.E. The Silkie
  • 477 Bradley, Marion Zimmer Sword of Chaos
  • 493 Wagner, Karl Edward Year's Best Horror Stories: X
  • 499 Lee, Tanith Cyrion
  • 504 Norman, John Blood Brothers of Gor
  • 511 Vance, Jack To Live Forever
  • 527 Vance, Jack The Blue World
  • 546 Dick, Philip K. Ubik
  • 553 Wagner, Karl Edward Year's Best Horror Stories: XI

I have 50 Lafferty, R.A. Strange Doings which is marked as 2nd Edition. Based on the database, I am counting this a first edition.

Of the "Black Spines" I have all but:

  • UQ1144 A World Aflame
  • UY1168 Mimics of Dephene

I may have some of the other No Logo titles... but I am specifically missing a copy of Imaginative Sex UJ1146.
As a sidenote, I was recently in Portland, OR on business and I stopped at [http:\\www.powells.com Powells] and they had a copy of Imaginative Sex in their specialty case for $80. I just checked online and it appears to have sold.

Cool - are you in the SF bay area? The Half Price books in Fremont may have #499 - Cyrion. Or maybe that's "had" - I go there a couple times per year and saw this in May-2007 but did not make note of it on my most recent visit.
I usually do thrift stores, library sales, and occasional excursions into book stores. The goal for me is to find the stuff for 50 cents or less and I've gotten very few of my books off the Internet meaning the collection grows slowly. I suspect 50 cents for Imaginative Sex will be a long wait but from what I've heard of the book I'm happy with waiting.
Note that "Durst of Far Stars" in your list should be "Dust of Far Suns"
I need to figure out a better system to verify items on the DAW list and to turn you loose on it. :-) Marc Kupper (talk) 00:40, 22 Mar 2008 (CDT)
