Welcome!

Hello, Steve Cameron, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --MartyD 11:36, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Festive Fear

Hi, and welcome. I accepted your submission of Festive Fear: Global Edition. Nice job with your first entry! I made a couple of minor changes to it to get it to conform to ISFDB standards and policies (see some of the links above), and I found a couple of other pieces of information that I added. Here's what I did:

  • The big one is that I changed the cover image link. Our cover image display loads directly from the linked-to server each time the image is displayed, so we only permit links to sites that have granted us permission to do such linking. We do not have such permission from Tasmaniac Publications, so I downloaded the cover you linked to, http://tasmaniacpublications.com/images/FFG-cover-1.jpg and uploaded it to the ISDFB and linked to that copy. See above for a link to lots of details about uploading cover images.
  • While grabbing the image from the Tasmaniac site, I found they credited the cover artist and interior artist, so I added that information. If the credits are not in the book, let me know -- we'd handle that by adding a note in the publication as to the non-book source from which the information was obtained.
  • I regularized the case of the content titles. Mostly, we use lower case for prepositions and determiners. Details are available here (this is accessible from the "Help" link at the top of the screen where you're entering/editing data).

All very minor stuff. As I said, you did a nice job. Again, welcome, and thanks for contributing. --MartyD 12:40, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Images

Just uploading one isn't quite enough! There is no automatic link to the record. Once an image is uploaded, you'll get a page that displays the image and all the other background data that goes with it. Don't choose the URL of this page. Right-click on the image itself. This will display the image all by itself in a new page. Then copy the URL of that page and place it in the field of the record. Cheers! --~ Bill, Bluesman 00:40, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Deck the Halls

The URL you linked to this record is an invalid one. Looks like you pasted it twice. Try again. Thanks. Mhhutchins 05:56, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Uploaded cover images

I deleted the file for the cover image of Cover of Darkness, June 2012, because it was uploaded without a license tag, and its filename was malformed. The best way to upload an image for a publication is to go to its record and click on the "Upload cover scan" link. This will automatically generate a unique filename, and more importantly, attach a license tag to the image that claims "fair use" for our using the image on our website. After it's uploaded, you then have to manually update the publication record to enter the URL of the image in the proper field. I copied your image before deleting it from the server and then re-uploaded it using this method. BTW, I assuming you created the publication record for this issue of Cover of Darkness. If so, please do a primary verification of the record (instructions linked in the Welcome section above). If you don't have a copy of the publication, and your data is from another source, you should update the record and give your source in the Note field. Thanks. Mhhutchins 14:51, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Sourcing data

You must give the source for your data in the "Note" field of the submission. If you're working from a copy of the publication in-hand, let the moderator know that in the "Note to Moderator" field. After a record for the publication has been accepted into the database, you should do a primary verification of the record (see the link in the Welcome section above). Also, magazines do not go into publication series. Leave that field blank (as well as the publication series number field) when creating records for magazines. Thanks for contributing. verified publication Epilogue (Ed. Tehani Wessely)

Hi, Regarding the publication verified by you here: I would like to make substantial changes to this record, as follows:

- fix page count ( change to 231)

- change price field to indicate Australian dollars (change to A$22.95)

- add note that price info came from publisher's website here

- add the "Introduction" to the contents list

- change the spelling of the author of 1st story (to Dyer)

- change the page number of the Jo Anderton story to 11

- change the author of the 2nd story to Jo Anderton 'cos that's what's on the story (& do the required variant)

- change the story "lengths" to shortfiction or novelette, as appropriate

Please check your copy & let me know if these changes are correct. Thanks --clarkmci / j_clark 22:27, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

This editor is no longer active. Please do a primary verification of the record and then make a submission to make the record match your copy. Thanks. 00:22, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Cover of Darkness

I corrected the author name David G. Snethen to Daniel G. Snethen in one issue of Cover of Darkness. --Vasha 02:33, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
