Peter Morwood - author update
You want to change the legal name from "Smith, Robert Peter" to "Same (by deed poll)". Could you please explain what "Same (by deed poll)" means? It looks like there's a case for changing the name to "Smyth, Robert Peter". The legal name is the author's current real name as shown on passports, etc. Marc Kupper (talk) 12:23, 29 Mar 2007 (CDT)
- See the Wikipedia entry, Marc: "He legally changed his surname to match the pen name in the mid-1980s." If that's the case, "deed poll" would be the legal mechanism (in England at least, maybe for the rest of GB and/or UK and/or "The British Isles" too) by which this was recorded. If so, the legal name should be "Morwood, Peter". Of course, approving either change means we lose the birth name, but that appears to be wrong here anyway: cover that in notes. - More of interest to me is whether "Pmorwood" is the author himself, or just a fan? I've seen the author at at least one SF convention, many years back, but can't think of an "only the real one would know the answer" question at the moment. :-/ BLongley 15:40, 29 Mar 2007 (CDT)
- Thank you Bill. I approved the author change and then sent in an update to change the legal name to Morwood, Peter. I too wondered if User:Pmorwood is the same as the author and a way to test this. Pmorwood writes on his wife's blog [1] and says "I see also that they (ISFDB) show the wrong legal name; that change was done by legal deed poll about 16 years ago. Best thing for me to do is pop in and make a few changes... Posted on Mar. 29th, 2007 09:35 am (UTC)." You never knew that Google would turn out to be a valid Turing Test. :-) As it's not quite wikipedia material I added a note to the ISFDB bio about this. Marc Kupper (talk) 23:05, 1 Apr 2007 (CDT)
