As on a Darkling Plain

Hi, I found your cover artist, it is Dean Ellis, look at this title Wenn die Sterne verlöschen for the same picture in mirror-image, where Dean Ellis is credited.--Dirk P Broer 10:32, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

The Rithian Terror

Hi I found the cover artist for your verified copy of The Rithian Terror. It is Chris Achilléos. No vague website here!.--Dirk P Broer 20:00, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

OK! Thanks!Kraang 04:29, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
I don't think Dirk is gonna change anything. I added the artist and a note. --Willem 09:32, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
I figured he would submit change and never checked. Thanks!Kraang 23:49, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Armageddon 2419 A.D.

Hi. In your verified pub, does it have a foreword on p.7 by Robert A. W. Lowndes? If so, shouldn't that be entered as a separate content and the page number for the start of the novel be pushed to p.9? Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 21:57, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

It's there please submit update. Thanks!Kraang 01:00, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
New content submitted. Also added some notes. Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 03:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

The Garbage Chronicles

Can you look at your copy of The Garbage Chronicles? My copy has a subtitle, "Being an Account of the Adventures of Tom Javik and Wizzy Malloy in the Faraway Land of Catapulted Garbage" on the title page.SFJuggler 05:26, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

I don't see why mine would be different.Kraang 02:31, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Darwin's Radio

My Del Rey/Ballantine hc of Darwin's Radio has the Afterword on p. 419, A Short Biological Primer on p.421 and Short Glossary of Scientific Terms on p.423. Also the cover image is by David Gifford, not Heather Kern who is credited as the designer. Contacting you as PV1 before I make the changes? PeteYoung 21:59, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

OK. Thanks!Kraang 02:42, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Chalker Nathan Brazil

You PV'd this book. My copy also "First published...1986" number line ending 2 definitely has "Cover illustration by Peter Goodfellow" on rear cover. My copy has a white advert block on rear at top for all four volumes. Credit is in this box. Could you check please ? Thanks. --Mavmaramis 17:25, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Will look.Kraang 02:41, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Sin in Space

Cover art for this book is by Robert Stanley, credit from here. Record amended accordingly. --Mavmaramis 05:45, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Same cover, different artists

This cover is credited to Ed Valigursky. The same cover is part of the artists website R. S. Lonati, cover #26. --Zapp 18:25, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

They have very similar styles and have unaccredited work. I would suggest dropping Ed as the cover artist and adding a note and the link to Lonati.Kraang 02:50, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

The Mutant Weapon vs. Med Service

Please see ISFDB:Community Portal#The Mutant Weapon vs. Med_Service as a primary verifier of The Mutant Weapon / The Pirates of Zan. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 23:45, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Default display of non-English translations

When you get a chance, could you please review this discussion? The proposal basically boils down to changing the behavior of the Summary Bibliography when the viewing user is not logged in. Currently only English translations are displayed for unauthenticated users. The proposal would change it to displaying all translations. The downside is that the Summary page could get longer and harder to navigate.

I am trying to get a sense of how widespread the support for this change is. TIA! Ahasuerus 01:03, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

Author's Note for Chalker's 'Quintara Marathon' trilogy

Letting you know I've merged the three "Author's Notes" that appeared in each separate publication of this Jack L. Chalker trilogy (in which we both have one or more verified publications) as they are all the same essay. I've given them the universal title Author's Note (The Quintara Marathon) and merged. A note has been added to this title regarding one very minor text difference, but they are essentially the same essay. Thanks. Prayers to Broken Stones interior art

There are seven substantial pieces of interior art in your verified Prayers to Broken Stones that illustrate individual stories, and for which we have no records. If it's OK with you as PV1 I'd like to add them (PV2 also notified). PeteYoung 19:41, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

That would be fine with me. Thanks!Kraang 02:22, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Done. I've had to add a note to the effect that the interior art appears on unnumbered pages that are not part of the book's pagination (which by using the bar method makes the contents listing look a little odd). Also, that the artist's signature is visible on the front cover. PeteYoung 19:11, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Vietnam and Other Alien Worlds

The cover credit for our verified Vietnam and Other Alien Worlds is given to "Thomas Kidd", the pseudonym, however does your copy have "Tom Kidd" on both the inside back cover and the copyright page, as mine does? Thanks for looking. PeteYoung 08:13, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

It's Tom Kidd will fix. Thanks!Kraang 22:23, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

Ballantine 1st paperback of Sturgeon's 'More Than Human'

There are 2 records for the 1st printing of Ballantine #46 'More Than Human'. I believe the one you (and Don Erikson) verified, http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?204081, should be deleted, but first wanted to check with you to see if there's a reason to keep both of the records. The one you verified credits publisher "Ballantine Books". The other record, http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?22862, credits "Farrar, Straus and Young with Ballantine Books" as shown on the title page (and front cover.) Is there a reason to keep record #204081 which does not credit Farrar Straus & Young? Thanks. (And, FYI, I'm checking with Don Erikson, also.) Markwood 05:24, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Let me dig out my copy before anything is deleted.Kraang 04:35, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I agree delete the record.Kraang 01:34, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Amazing Stories, December 1947

Hi. Regarding your pv'd Amazing Stories, December 1947 "The Observatory is actually on p.6 instead of 9. On p.84 I was wondering why you have it credited to "unknown" and varianted when it is credited to "Alexander Blade" on the title page? On p.100, the actual title on the title page looks like it should be Space Ships Limited: VI. Life on Other Planets. I see that there are five others, (all with slightly different titling formats) leading off with "Space Ships Limited" - maybe that should have a series. Also, I see that the essay for "The Rain of Fish" never occurred (as you note) but shouldn't the full page artwork (uncredited as far as I can tell) be entered on p.180 (the back cover)? Thanks for any input, Doug / Vornoff 20:03, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Please make any changes you feel are necessary and someone overseeing magazines will deal with it. Thanks!Kraang 00:10, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
Will do. Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 00:22, 4 January 2016 (UTC) Submitted, except I see now that it looks like "unknown" is standard practice for use if author is a made-up name like "Alexander Blade" which has been used by many authors and the actual author is not known. I left it alone. Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 01:20, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

The Engineer Reconditioned

I have a copy of the mass-market paperback version of The Engineer Reconditioned and noticed a minor mistake. The story "Proctors" begins on p. 184, not 182 as currently stated in notes & contents. Is this true of your copy as well?

I would also like to change the notes to add some information, so that they would end up like this:

  • Printing date from Locus1
  • The copyright page has no printing information nor is it contained anywhere else in the book.
  • The title page says “Cosmos Books” for the publisher.
  • Copyright page says “Published by Dorchester Publishing Co., Inc. . . . in collaboration with Wildside Press LLC.” Also “Copyright © 2006 by Neal Asher.” Copyright page and UPC label on back of book give both ISBN-13 and ISBN-10.
  • Each story begins with a brief (1-page or less) introduction by the author, with the exception of “Snairls.”
  • The contents page of this edition does not include "Proctors" page 184 and "The Gurnard" page 292.
  • The short story "Snairls" begins on page 114 with the sentence “The other passengers went to their cabins. . .” It is untitled and not included in the contents page.
  • On back cover: Art by Ian Field-Richards. Design by Gary Nurrish.
  • On back cover below UPC code: $6.99 US $8.99 CAN £5.99 UK $14.95 AUS
  • OCLC <a href="http://www.worldcat.org/title/engineer-reconditioned/oclc/213856887&referer=brief_results">213856887</a>

Note also left with Wjmvanruth. BungalowBarbara 03:09, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

Make the changes. Thanks!Kraang 03:08, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Done. Thank you! BungalowBarbara 05:34, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

More on the contents of The Engineer Reconditioned

I just obtained (from my local library) a copy of the earlier trade-paperback version of The Engineer Reconditioned and have been able to compare it to the mass-market paperback version verified by yourself, Wjmvanruth and myself. This has revealed that the mass-market edition does include the stories of "Jable Sharks" and "The Thrake". Like the story "Snairls", in the mass-market version, they do not have any preceding introduction or even a story title. One story ends and the other one begins after a short gap on the page. They are not listed in the Table of Contents. (Plainly this version was not proof-read properly!!)

Details:

In the trade version, "Spatterjay" ends with the sentence "Her own blueness was hidden by the natural colour of her skin, though Ambel had told her she had a pretty blue-white circle in the middle of her back." "Jable Sharks" starts with the sentence "The ship: three masts stitched across the horizon, black against the lemon sky." See page 151 of the mass-market paperback, where one story ends and the other begins with no title or introduction, just a gap.
In the trade version, "Jable Sharks" ends with the sentence "He wonders what the Captain read that frightened him so badly, and if he ever read any more." "The Thrake" starts with the sentence "To Mark, the runcible was the altar to some cybernetic god of technology, and he felt like an acolyte come before it for the first time." In the mass-market version, "Jable Sharks" ends at the bottom of page 164, with a gap with three asterisks in it. "The Thrake" starts at the top of page 165 with no title or introduction.

I will be making changes to notes and contents of the mass-market paperback. Note also left with Wjmvanruth. BungalowBarbara 01:32, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Unibook date 'codes'

My brain is slipping ... totally neglected to post you on [this]. Harry isn't here anymore and Rhschu hasn't responded on his/her talk page in a couple of years. If your copy has the same code, can you or Willem amend the record? I just noticed the date-code in a first pass and won't get back to that book for about a week [piles and piles on my desk ...] or I can do it when I get back to that stack. Thanks! --~ Bill, Bluesman 00:34, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

The Web of the Chozen

The Cover Art for The Web of the Chozen shows a price of $2.95 in the top right hand corner. My copy has $2.50 on the front page and matches all the publication details. Would you like me to upload a scan of my copy? --AndyjMo 16:19, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Sorry I've been away for a few days. Let me check my copies and get back in a couple of days. Del Rey was producing US and CDN printings at this time with different prices to reflect the currency. The current images appear to be wrong and I'd like to figure out what is on the publishers page and on the back. Thank!Kraang 03:46, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

The Dying Earth

Hi, I've imported content for your verified copy of The Dying Earth.--Dirk P Broer 01:02, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

A. McWilliams / Alden McWilliams

Hi. Alden McWiliams (Al McWilliams) is the same person as A. McWiliams, as seen here and other websites. I've pseudonymed A. McWilliams to Alden but that leaves a string of titles that normally would need to be varianted. So my question is: You have verified titles attributed to A. McWilliams on this list. If that was by actual credit, they should be varianted to Alden but if it was by a signature only, the name should be changed to Alden McWilliams, as I see it by our rules. Here are the ones you've verified, could you check them and make any changes? Sorry to burden you with this but I thought it was the right thing to do to. I'm sending this out to RTrace, Rkihara and MLB, who have different issues with the same situation.
