Fit for Consumption

I accepted the addition of Fit for Consumption, but had to make the following changes:

  • ISBN: The ISBN field should only be a single number. If the book was issues with an ISBN13, then that forms should be used or otherwise the ISBN10. The software will automatically translate into the other version.
  • Cover Artist: This is only for the artist. We do not credit the designer in this field. The designer can be noted in the pub notes.
  • Image: We can only accept image links from sites that have given us permission. I changed this to an Amazon image. You can also upload a local image if you wish (see instructions in the welcome message at the top of the page).
  • Price: Please add ".00" for whole dollar amounts.
  • Afterword: Nonfiction is only used for a whole publication that is all nonfiction. For an essay within another work, we use "ESSAY" as the type. For common titles like "Foreword", "Preface", and "Afterword", we also add the publication title in parenthesis.

Regarding your request for feedback, you did very well for a first attempt. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking).

I did have one question on this pub: You entered it with a date that is down to the day. Is that date on the pub itself? Or is it from a secondary source (Amazon, publisher's website, etc)? If the later, you should have a publication date stating the source (example: "Only data is year. Thanks for Fit for Consumption feedback, edits

Thank you for the very useful feedback about doing my first entry, Fit for Consumption. I will scrutinize the FAQ's more closely and apply what you corrected to my next book entry. I entered a specific date for publication that I copied from amazon.ca. I will only enter the year next time. Does that work? The ISBN numbers (ISBN-10 and ISBN-13) listed on amazon.com confused me, hence my listing of both. I will only list the ISBN-10 going forward. Also, is this the correct way to respond to your question, hitting the "plus" sign on my talk page and starting a new subject/headline preview? Cheers. Canuckscribe 14:53, 14 February 2022 (EST)

You can use a secondary source's more specific publication date as long as you add a publication note. I updated Fit for Consumption which you can see for an example. For the ISBN, please use the ISBN13 if it is present on the publication (generally books after 2007). Only use the ISBN10 if it does not have an ISBN13. As for responding, instead of creating a new section, you can use the "edit" link to the right of the section title and then add the response below the prior post. If you add colons before your response, it will indent it (one colon indents once, two colons twice, etc.). Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:07, 16 February 2022 (EST)

Hello,

When a story is inside more than one publication, you cannot edit its length from inside a publication (as you discovered). Instead, open the publication and click on the story itself. In this case it opens this record. You can edit from there. I had done that for this story but this is so you know how to do it in the future. Let me know if you have any questions. Regarding your question in the moderator's note of this submission: You can go to the publication record and click the "Edit" in the top right (next to the Publication Record #). You can then edit the pub notes field and submit the change. Hope that helps. If you have questions on how something works, it's best to post at ISFDB:Help desk instead of creating an empty edit record. No worries. Next time, try the browser back button. IF it does not lose the contents (it might - it depend on how many you added and your browser and so on), you can cancel the incomplete one (go to your Pending and cancel from there) and finish your work and submit. Do not leave two completing edits on the board at any time :). If it loses the stories, do exactly what you did today but post on the Moderator board: Helpdesk is if you need help, that one is if you need a moderator to assist with a submission :) Also - when posting a new question, don't edit he board page, use the plus sign next to the edit link :) That will allow you to add a title (how I did for yours there) and makes it easier for someone to see what the need is :) Let me know if you have any questions/concerns :) Annie 17:14, 16 March 2022 (EDT)

Blood on His Hands last queries about uncredited interior artwork, contributors section (promise)

I have completed the ToC on an anthology, Blood on His Hands to my satisfaction, save for three details that I still need to confirm. There is uncredited interior artwork. I am trying to confirm the artist's name with the publisher. The first instance of interior art is the first page of the book (unnumbered and not the cover). I have left the page number blank since the page numbering does not begin until the first page of the first short story in the antho. Should I have left the page number blank? Secondly, I suspect that the art there and on page 130 is done by the same artist as it is the same style. However, I cannot assume this, so I have entered "uncredited" in the author fields blank for now, as indicated by the guidelines. Also, I am unclear whether the About the Authors section, which lists contributor bios on page 151, should be entered. I have not added this section as I am unclear whether it is necessary for the record and how to include it. Do I need to enter this section? Many thanks! Canuckscribe 17:54, 16 March 2022 (EDT)
