The Science Fiction Masterworks series by Gollancz was very much a trigger of my collecting obsession, the uniform cover/spine design/layout etc. across multiple books has become somewhat of an addiction within my collection and a quick glance at my bookshelves shows that the SFM series was only start. From the Panther / Granada editions of Asimov's books to a slowly growing line of Sphere SF books its starting to create little uniform pockets within my shelves.

About me

Born in the 90's and obsessed with 60's - 90's sci fi. I acquire faster than I can read, regularly raiding the sci fi & fantasy bookshelves at local charity and second hand book shops.

Collection Goals

Gollancz Science Fiction Masterworks

The Science Fiction Masterworks series by Gollancz was very much a trigger of my collecting obsession, the uniform cover/spine design/layout etc. across multiple books has become somewhat of an addiction within my collection and a quick glance at my bookshelves shows that the SFM series was only start. From the Panther / Granada editions of Asimov's books to a slowly growing line of Sphere SF books its starting to create little uniform pockets within my shelves. I would ideally like to get a complete set these Masterworks paperbacks (specifically the newer design), however at over 160 titles in the series this is a long term goal.

Gollancz Golden Age Masterworks

As with the SF Masterworks, the Golden age masterworks are very appealing for their uniform design. The titles so far have also all had some fantastic artwork for their covers by Tithi Luandthong. This is a series I'd like to try and stay fairly up to date and keep on top of while it's still growing.

Having stumbled across two copies of New Destinies last year and going on to find two copies of the original Destinies this year, I got round to giving one a shot (at the time of writing, this is the book I'm currently reading, at ~75% through). Having thoroughly enjoyed what I've read so far I decided to check how many magazine volumes where published, expecting a gargantuan number that would be almost impossible to collect, only to find the number far lower and manageable, the good news didn't take long to be shattered when I saw the prices these seem to go for online. £20 isn't going to break the bank, but it certainly stings when I've managed to pickup 4 volumes for between £1.50 - £2.50 each by stumbling into them at second hand book shops. I'd love a full set of this magazine and it's newer version, but I think this will be a very slow burn, picking up copies as and when I bump into them in the wild at low cost.
