Ballantine Books is a publisher.Katherine Kurtz's Deryni series. Ballentine published the "authorized" paperback edition of the (revised) second edition of Tolkein's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
It was founded in 1952 by Ian Ballantine. It was acquired by Random House in 1973. In 1969 Ballantine initated the Ballantine Adult Fantasy series edited by Lin Carter. This reprintd several rare titles, some considered "classics". It also included the first books inHistorical full names and addresses
