Hello, I've approved your submission but instead of sourcing your data in the "Note to Moderator" field, you should have updated the "Note" field at publication level (I've done this for you) and notified the Primary Verifiers of the changes (ditto). Hello, I've put your submission on hold as your publication is very likely (as per price) a later printing than [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?193781 this 1977 one] and so not to be dated 1977. Can you tell me what is exactly on its copyright page? There also will be some details to clear (price, publication series). Thanks. [[User:Hauck|Hauck]] 18:54, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

:Sure, I'll have to check after work this evening. I thought I had listed it correctly, Futura 1st, an Orbit book. I'll also try to get you that photo as well. :::Thanks for having a look. The 90p is likely a second printing where the copyright page hadn't been updated. I've approved your submisison with a few changes: publisher set to "Orbit", publication series blanked (for example Ace Double is a publication series of Ace), price set to "£0.95" (see Help pages), and inserted notes. The result is [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?584999 here], you can now upload your scan there and add the contents (use the top screen of "Import Content" with "193781" as parameter to achieve this quickly). I have uploaded the new cover. Please feel free to amend my comments. Also, the initial price I gave you of U.K. 95p is correct which is in the listing, not 90p which I wrote in last talk. Hello, when you change or add data to verified publications, our etiquette requires that you notify the active PV (Primary Verifiers) of the publication according to their preferences (situated on top of their talk page). Usually, it means dropping a line like "I've added the artist for your verified pub". Thanks. [[User:Hauck|Hauck]] 15:58, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

I have seen that you tried to add an image for Le Guin's ''A Wizard of Earthsea'' (Gollancz 71). Please use and follow the semi-automated procedure described on [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/Help:How_to_upload_images_to_the_ISFDB_wiki this help page]. This way a template is generated automatically that protect us legally. Thanks, [[User:Stonecreek|Stonecreek]] 03:27, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

I thought I had done this, I will try again this evening. Thanks. Was the image okay otherwise as far as quality/size?[[User:Collectible Science Fiction|Collectible Science Fiction]] 12:31, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

 +
:Well, the initial step would be to ' click the link labeled "Upload cover scan" '. It seems that you didn't do that, since otherwise the template would have been generated automatically. Would it be okay if I delete the image and you start again from scratch? [[User:Stonecreek|Stonecreek]] 15:32, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

::Just chiming in, but IMHO this step have already be completed [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/Image:WZRDFRTHSQ1971.jpg see here], in this case it's the update of the publication record that hasn't been done.[[User:Hauck|Hauck]] 16:19, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Yes, the image Hauck just posted was rejected but I did follow the upload scan instructions. :IMHO it's useless to try to upload a "better" image (you're close to our size limits). Just edit the publication record [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?216721 here] by giving the URL of the image (<nowiki>http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/images/3/39/WZRDFRTHSQ1971.jpg</nowiki>). Hello, I've approved your submission but regularized publisher to already existing [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/publisher.cgi?4467 Martinez Roca],note that the publication series should perhaps be found into the existing ones for this publisher (perhaps [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pubseries.cgi?4729 this one?]). I've also deleted the notes as they're transient and should go in the "Note to Modrator" field and changed the artist's name to canonical as per your notes for the image (that I've uploaded for you). The result is [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?601484 here]. Note that I've also had to unmerge and variant your  publication's title as you added it to the english version <i>Ubik</i>. Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make some chnages to conform to our standards:
 +
* added currency symbol (remember we're an international outfit).
 +
* regularized publisher to Bantam Books (see [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?334739 this pub]).
 +
* imported contents.

The result is [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?624453 here]. Note that it's perhaps may be quicker for you to use the "Clone This Pub" function starting from an appropriate publication ([http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?334739 this one is perfect for your purposes]) instead of "Add Publication to This Title". Hello,
 +
 +
Just as a reminder - when you have a question like that, you can post in [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/ISFDB:Community_Portal Community Portal] instead of sending an empty update :)
 +
 +
Now about [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?3794151 this question] - if I understand correctly, you have the same book in your hands (not a scan of a cover but the actual book) and it has a different cover? Is that the case? If so, and considering that the PV is not active, we have a bit of a problem. Which is the "1975 Arrow edition" edition? Any chance that they somehow got mixed up? [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 18:46, 23 April 2018 (EDT)
 +
 +
: I believe the cover I previously posted for the 67' edition is actually the 75' edition when I compare the fonts/cover schemes for Arrow from the different years. I did own that book at the time so I'm sure that I read whatever copyright info was there correctly. I now have a different version which looks older and consistent with the other Arrow Stoker from 67' in the database that also says 1967 third impression. So I think it would be accurate to move the first image to the 75' Arrow edition or remove it from this one, and allow me to upload my current cover. Thanks![[User:Collectible Science Fiction|Collectible Science Fiction]] 19:04, 23 April 2018 (EDT)
 +
 +
:: My only way to move it is to upload it in the proper place - which you can also do :). I do not see a '75 Arrow edition [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?14558 here] thus me asking which edition you mean? If you mean the '74 one, it does not have a cover yet so upload this one there, edit the pub to add it, then upload the correct one here and I can delete the now not needed one. [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 19:15, 23 April 2018 (EDT)

Hi, I've imported content for you verified copy of [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?657887 Dracula's Guest]. I have also added the OCLC record andmade it a collection instead of an anthology -you may want to check the page numbers. You had it as an anthology, but if it was an anthology Bram Stoker would at max only have a part of the stories by himself -that is not the case here. It is in fact the umpteenth edition of a 1914 Bram Stoker collection by Routledge, as noted at OCLC/WordCat -and now at your copy as well.--[[User:Dirk P Broer|Dirk P Broer]] 06:44, 22 May 2018 (EDT)

Revision as of 18:31, 16 April 2019

Welcome!

Hello, Collectible Science Fiction, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Hauck 07:31, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Other Dimensions

Hello, I've approved your submission but instead of sourcing your data in the "Note to Moderator" field, you should have updated the "Note" field at publication level (I've done this for you) and notified the Primary Verifiers of the changes (ditto). Thanks for spotting this link. Hauck 07:40, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

The Cyberiad: Fables for the Cybernetic Age

Hello, I've put your submission on hold as your publication is very likely (as per price) a later printing than this 1977 one and so not to be dated 1977. Can you tell me what is exactly on its copyright page? There also will be some details to clear (price, publication series). Thanks. Hauck 18:54, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Sure, I'll have to check after work this evening. I thought I had listed it correctly, Futura 1st, an Orbit book. I'll also try to get you that photo as well. The links I found to it were not from approved sources so I'm editing mine. Collectible Science FictionCollectible Science Fiction 19:02, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
I have both copies in front of me. The problem is that we are both correct. The copyright page is identical for both books. Both say an Orbit book at top, First Futura Publications Edition 1977. The price on the Burns cover is U.K. 80p, the price on the Tybus cover is 90p. How do I upload my scan without eliminating the present image? Thanks. Collectible Science FictionCollectible Science Fiction 03:15, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for having a look. The 90p is likely a second printing where the copyright page hadn't been updated. I've approved your submisison with a few changes: publisher set to "Orbit", publication series blanked (for example Ace Double is a publication series of Ace), price set to "£0.95" (see Help pages), and inserted notes. The result is here, you can now upload your scan there and add the contents (use the top screen of "Import Content" with "193781" as parameter to achieve this quickly). Hauck 08:20, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
In order to correctly upload the cover scan, please follow the procedure indicated there. I've done this for you and deleted your first upload. Hauck 13:52, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

I have uploaded the new cover. Please feel free to amend my comments. Also, the initial price I gave you of U.K. 95p is correct which is in the listing, not 90p which I wrote in last talk. Again, thanks for getting me up to speed! Collectible Science FictionCollectible Science Fiction 14:45, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Notifying PVs

Hello, when you change or add data to verified publications, our etiquette requires that you notify the active PV (Primary Verifiers) of the publication according to their preferences (situated on top of their talk page). Usually, it means dropping a line like "I've added the artist for your verified pub". Thanks. Hauck 15:58, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Okay, I will do so now. Thank you.

Uploading cover images

I have seen that you tried to add an image for Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea (Gollancz 71). Please use and follow the semi-automated procedure described on this help page. This way a template is generated automatically that protect us legally. Thanks, Stonecreek 03:27, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

I thought I had done this, I will try again this evening. Thanks. Was the image okay otherwise as far as quality/size?Collectible Science Fiction 12:31, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Well, the initial step would be to ' click the link labeled "Upload cover scan" '. It seems that you didn't do that, since otherwise the template would have been generated automatically. Would it be okay if I delete the image and you start again from scratch? Stonecreek 15:32, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
Just chiming in, but IMHO this step have already be completed see here, in this case it's the update of the publication record that hasn't been done.Hauck 16:19, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Yes, the image Hauck just posted was rejected but I did follow the upload scan instructions. I attempted to upload a higher quality scan yesterday but it didn't prepopulate the data so I'm not sure what happened. The second scan is much better. I can try again this evening.Collectible Science Fiction 16:37, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

IMHO it's useless to try to upload a "better" image (you're close to our size limits). Just edit the publication record here by giving the URL of the image (http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/images/3/39/WZRDFRTHSQ1971.jpg). Hauck 16:42, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

I have tried this and changed the url to the one listed. Is it pending approval or is it still missing the jpeg file?Collectible Science Fiction 16:53, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

I don't see any approved submission for this edit, I've done this for you. Hauck 17:19, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Thank you as always for your help!Collectible Science Fiction 17:29, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Same problem for the image associated with this pub, you uploaded it without following the proper procedure. I've done this for you and deleted the incorrectly uploaded scans (there were two of them). Hauck 05:58, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. When I clicked on the upload new cover scan link no info was prepopulated.Collectible Science Fiction 13:22, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
That's strange, in theory the "summary" part is already entered. Hauck 14:38, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

On a related note, I'm in touch with Josh Kirby's family. They wanted to know if it's possible to change his cover image to a real picture. Thanks.Collectible Science Fiction 16:26, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Sure! We do need only an image to upload! Stonecreek 17:12, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Great! How do I upload it since it's not a cover scan?Collectible Science Fiction 17:40, 31 October 2016 (UTC) Should I use the Author Images template or just upload through scans?Collectible Science Fiction 18:49, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Ubik

Hello, I've approved your submission but regularized publisher to already existing Martinez Roca, note that the publication series should perhaps be found into the existing ones for this publisher (perhaps this one?). I've also deleted the notes as they're transient and should go in the "Note to Modrator" field and changed the artist's name to canonical as per your notes for the image (that I've uploaded for you). The result is here. Note that I've also had to unmerge and variant your publication's title as you added it to the english version Ubik. Hauck 10:59, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Yes, thank you. It is Super Ficcion, not Science Ficcion. There is no price listed on the book and it is 197 pages. Happy New Year!Collectible Science Fiction 18:58, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Record updated. Hauck 19:05, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Harmonized pub format with the rest of the series (19 cm, so tp). Linguist 10:11, 3 March 2017 (UTC).

Thank you!Collectible Science Fiction 03:17, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

The Unlimited Dream Company

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to change the price from "UK 2.50" to simply "£2.50" and set the binding to "pb" (as you own the book, you're supposed to be able to determine its format). I've also deleted the irrelevant part of the note (it should go ine the "note to moderator" field). Hauck 08:45, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Thank you. The log in issue seems to be a Firefox problem as I have been able to access using Chrome. I will now upload the cover as well. Collectible Science Fiction 14:52, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Image Uploads

Did you receive my cover uploads for Dream and Night Shift? Collectible Science Fiction 23:37, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Yes, I see that they are uploaded into our system (here and there), you've got now to "finish" the task as described here (copying URLs and updating the Image field of the publication records). Hauck 06:30, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Nightshift

Hi, I've uploaded content for your verified copy of [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?614160 Nightshift}.--Dirk P Broer 11:58, 3 May 2017 (UTC) Thank you! Perhaps we should retract that cover from the 1980 edition as I can't verify it was the same. I didn't go about adding the pub correctly at that time.Collectible Science Fiction 18:58, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

R Is for Rocket

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make some chnages to conform to our standards:

  • added currency symbol (remember we're an international outfit).
  • regularized publisher to Bantam Books (see this pub).
  • imported contents.

The result is here. Note that it's perhaps may be quicker for you to use the "Clone This Pub" function starting from an appropriate publication (this one is perfect for your purposes) instead of "Add Publication to This Title". Hauck 13:06, 5 July 2017 (EDT)

Thanks as always, Hauck. Ian Miller has already written me back and is reviewing the photo now. In the meantime, I will upload the cover for this edition. Take care.Collectible Science Fiction 13:43, 5 July 2017 (EDT)
Ian Miller has contacted me and confirmed the art is his.Collectible Science Fiction 14:01, 5 July 2017 (EDT)
Nice work, submission approved. Hauck 14:13, 5 July 2017 (EDT)

The Atrocity Exhibition cover

Thanks for the hint, I'll delete the link, so you can upload the actual cover. The background likely is a general problem with amazon's cover displays: they put one up per ISBN, regardless if the cover design or art have changed with printings. Stonecreek 08:37, 12 October 2017 (EDT)

Sure. I created a new pub for the cover shown but don't have the 72' Panther cover at the moment. When I have it in hand I will upload the scan. Thanks! Collectible Science Fiction 12:55, 12 October 2017 (EDT)

The Disaster Area

The Third Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories

re The Third Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories: Can you please confirm its "Third" and not "3rd" on the title page? There is some confusion in our notes between the printings. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:13, 16 November 2017 (EST)

Well maybe the confusion is caused by the front cover stating 3rd and the title page stating Third!Collectible Science Fiction 18:52, 16 November 2017 (EST)

I added that info to the publication record. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:08, 16 November 2017 (EST)

Thank you for your help. I would also add that Jan Parker is still listed as artist for Worlds of Herbert 88' NEL. I doubt that is his work, and the book does not credit an artist.Collectible Science Fiction 21:36, 16 November 2017 (EST)

I removed the artist credit. It was probably added based on the prior artwork. Since you uploaded the cover art, do you have the publication? If so, it would be appreciated if you verified the publication. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 16:40, 17 November 2017 (EST)

Sorry so late in getting back to you! I no longer have the book.Collectible Science Fiction 17:51, 3 December 2017 (EST)

Since you no longer have the book, you should change your verification from Permanent to Transient. To do that, re-verify and select the Transient option. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:47, 3 December 2017 (EST)

Ubik

Re Ubik -- the record at La Tercera Fundación says that the ISBN is 84-270-0376-5 and the publication series number is 13; are those correct according to your copy? --Vasha 17:30, 31 March 2018 (EDT)

Sorry so late to respond. Yes they are!Collectible Science Fiction 16:43, 5 April 2018 (EDT)
Thanks. I have added the info. --Vasha 19:38, 5 April 2018 (EDT)

The Lair of the White Worm

Hello,

Just as a reminder - when you have a question like that, you can post in Community Portal instead of sending an empty update :)

Now about this question - if I understand correctly, you have the same book in your hands (not a scan of a cover but the actual book) and it has a different cover? Is that the case? If so, and considering that the PV is not active, we have a bit of a problem. Which is the "1975 Arrow edition" edition? Any chance that they somehow got mixed up? Annie 18:46, 23 April 2018 (EDT)

I believe the cover I previously posted for the 67' edition is actually the 75' edition when I compare the fonts/cover schemes for Arrow from the different years. Thanks!Collectible Science Fiction 19:04, 23 April 2018 (EDT)
My only way to move it is to upload it in the proper place - which you can also do :). I do not see a '75 Arrow edition here thus me asking which edition you mean? If you mean the '74 one, it does not have a cover yet so upload this one there, edit the pub to add it, then upload the correct one here and I can delete the now not needed one. Annie 19:15, 23 April 2018 (EDT)

Ok, I've submitted the previous scan as the 74' cover and uploaded the new scan for the 67' edition. Thanks for your help and hope this works.Collectible Science Fiction 22:10, 23 April 2018 (EDT)

All approved - can you recheck them just in case? Annie 22:58, 23 April 2018 (EDT)

Looks great, thanks!Collectible Science Fiction 23:10, 23 April 2018 (EDT)

The Bat

Hi, I have your submission on hold because of the price you entered, without specifying the currency used. I am sure your keyboard supports the $.--Dirk P Broer 18:33, 28 April 2018 (EDT)

Yes, please make it $.25. I don't think Dell ever printed prices in anything but U.S. currency so they did not use a $ sign. Thanks.Collectible Science Fiction 10:00, 1 May 2018 (EDT)
Do you need to resubmit the entire entry with correct price?Collectible Science Fiction 13:53, 2 May 2018 (EDT)
No, just be patient please :) Dirk has the submission on hold so only he can approve - and he just had not been around in the last few days. Annie 13:57, 2 May 2018 (EDT)
Midweek Dublin to be exact.--Dirk P Broer 20:35, 5 May 2018 (EDT)

Haha! Have fun.Collectible Science Fiction 21:01, 8 May 2018 (EDT)

Dracula's Guest

Hi, I've imported content for you verified copy of Dracula's Guest. I have also added the OCLC record andmade it a collection instead of an anthology -you may want to check the page numbers. You had it as an anthology, but if it was an anthology Bram Stoker would at max only have a part of the stories by himself -that is not the case here. It is in fact the umpteenth edition of a 1914 Bram Stoker collection by Routledge, as noted at OCLC/WordCat -and now at your copy as well.--Dirk P Broer 06:44, 22 May 2018 (EDT)

The Third Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories

I've done the same (importing content) with The Third Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories.--Dirk P Broer 06:48, 22 May 2018 (EDT) Great, thanks!Collectible Science Fiction 15:56, 23 May 2018 (EDT)

Zebra / Kensington

Hi. I accepted Teacher's Pet, but I changed the publisher credit from "Zebra/Kensington Publishing Corp." to Zebra Books / Kensington Publishing Corp. since we already had that. We try not to have a proliferation of records for the same imprint and publisher. --MartyD 22:51, 17 October 2018 (EDT)

Thank you! I forgot to add Books. I'll upload the cover now as well.Collectible Science Fiction 16:44, 18 October 2018 (EDT)

A Medicine for Melancholy

I accepted your addition of the cover artist for A Medicine for Melancholy, but then updated the pub notes to add the source. Please remember that when adding data that is not from the pub, the source should be added to the pub notes and not the moderator notes. The moderator notes are transient. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:31, 16 April 2019 (EDT)
