What is the source of the price [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?4484856 here]? The only listed sources are Worldcat and Moshul SF. None of them have the price. If you are adding it, we need the source in the notes. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 23:16, 30 November 2019 (EST)

::I'll check in my library today, I don't remember if I bought this book in the past. I know sure, I have [https://www.anticariatplus.ro/image/cache/Carti/a/Adrian%20Rogoz/CPSF-500--Pretul-secant-al-genunii--aadae5-400x400.jpg this magazine] with the novel, [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pubseries.cgi?8738 CPSF] #500.--[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 01:37, 1 December 2019 (EST)

: On a separate note - what is the point of adding the Author template for authors who do not exist in the DB thus creating links that lead to a search which finds nothing (thus making it look as if there is a mistake somewhere in the linking) and can be confusing to users of the DB? Please check if the author is there before adding the A template to it.  [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 23:23, 30 November 2019 (EST)

:: I wonder if this does not come from your Wikipedia practices where adding the non-connecting link makes sense because someone can click on it and fill in the page. If that is the case, keep in mind that we are not a Wiki but a DB - and links which seem not to work are not a good idea - especially when they lead to an internal record (or appear to need to) - not everyone understands how the DB works and if you just stumble on this,. it looks like a dead link which needs fixing and/or reporting. Different standards and data organization from a wiki page so the practices are different. Plus when we have a proper translator system, both the linked and non-linked will be moved to their new places - so no point confusing the users of the DB for now. So please check that the page exist before adding the A template. Or any other linking template or a link really. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 23:36, 30 November 2019 (EST)

:::Some translators have written books or essays like [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?302720 Ion Doru Brana], I will add them in the future and there will be no longer dead links.--[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 01:37, 1 December 2019 (EST)

:::: Add the books first. Then connect them. :) Dead link which will one day be non-dead ones end up staying dead links for a very long time (and sometimes forever) :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 01:42, 1 December 2019 (EST)

::Again, would've been a good idea if the pages with the translators were created automatically based on this format. --[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 01:48, 1 December 2019 (EST)

::: And you can repeat that 100 more times - it won't make it happen by magic. I wish it would but... it won't. The functionality does not exist yet. With a bit of luck, we may see it in the next couple of years or so. We were not even consistently recording translators until 2 years ago or so. Or allowing non-Latin characters anywhere until a bit longer than that. The site is what it is - we do the best of it based on what we have and slowly dragging it forwards to a better international support. It just takes time - especially developer time. == Excerpts ==

Hello again,

A quick note: when there is an excerpt, we do not variant it to its complete novel/story/whatever it is an excerpt from - we variant serialized publishing and publishing in volumes but not just excerpts. You can add a link to the complete novel in the notes of the excerpt if you want to. [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 00:04, 1 December 2019 (EST)

:I realized this after I sent the submissions, I didn't delete them because I thought you would add the information in notes --[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 01:41, 1 December 2019 (EST)

:: And if it was one or two, I might have. When it is a repeated problem, I am coming over to work with you. You could have as easily rejected them and added the notes instead of expecting someone to correct the entries. You remember your request for me to add more books from a Bulgarian series? When I am spending my time cleaning after someone else, I cannot do that. If you can do something, don't expect someone else to do it for you based on a note - everyone is happy to assist but leaving homework for people will end up with your submissions staying in the queue for days sometimes just because they take a lot of time - they are already challenging because of the language, adding more hurdles does not help. Of course, if you do not get to it, I will probably go and add the notes because they need to be there but I would rather get an editor to be more independent than do their work for them. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 01:49, 1 December 2019 (EST)

== Valid ISBNs as Catalog IDs ==

You are adding valid ISBNs to the catalog ID field instead of the ISBN field. Can you please pay attention to which field you are using? And also - make sure they do not contain non breaking hyphens (which is why some of your are failing verification). All of the books I just approved had to have their ISBNs moved to the proper field... :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 05:58, 1 December 2019 (EST)

:it is safer like that, [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?4486543 fewer errors occur] --[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 06:08, 1 December 2019 (EST)

:: It is also easier to leave the data out from any formatted field and dump it in the notes so you do not need to worry about formatting. Except that this is not a wiki page but a database -- and one of the important features of a DB is the ability to find things in places where you expect them to be. So use [https://www.isbn-check.com/ ISBN Check] or another site (or even do a manual calculation on the last character) before submitting and verify them and determine based on that where to put it. Just dumping it into the catalog ID because you do not want to check them is against the principle of a DB and creates more work for everyone else. [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 06:17, 1 December 2019 (EST)

::: PS: The correct one here is  973-9162-25-8 and not 973-9126-25-8 (973-9162 is the prefix of that publisher at around that time). Clicking on the back cover on the site you use as a source shows the correct one - so the misprint is in the source...  :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 06:24, 1 December 2019 (EST)

::Please delete one entry, we have two ''[http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?2653714 Nestemate visătoare]'' ISBN 93-9162-25-8  --[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 06:35, 1 December 2019 (EST)

::: Already done after approving the second one a second before my brain told me we have it already :) That's (partially) why we need the ISBN in the correct place - the adding process would have warned us we had it. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 06:39, 1 December 2019 (EST)

: Yes, I know - I tend to read the links before posting them somewhere :) But as we cannot have variants of variants, we always need to have one canonical title for the parent - which won't always be what one's book specifies as the source text. We go with first title except when another title had become more popular. If you are planning to make Korok a variant of the new title, I am ok with that - but it should have been mentioned in the notes - I cannot read your mind. Is that your plan? Although I would make the case for Korok being the title the story is known by despite not being the first one...  [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 06:59, 1 December 2019 (EST)

== Changing date in existing publications ==

When you change a date in an existing publication (such as [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?747860 this one]), just changing the date on the publication (as you did [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?4488875 here] is not enough -- the contents already have dates so they won't be changed. So you need to manually change all the dates inside as well (see how I did it [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?4488908 here]). The only titles that get their date from the publication record are the newly added ones; pre-existing records need adjustments specifically. Thanks! [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 11:34, 4 December 2019 (EST)

:Okay, I thought it filled in automatically. I'll correct. --[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 11:46, 4 December 2019 (EST)

:: It does on new publications - as it needs a date from somewhere so if you do not supply one, it will grab the pub one. Once they are created though, the record already has a date so you need to tell it to do it one by one when you want it changed. When they are used in only one publication, it can be done as shown above. When the title is in more than one, you need to do it title by title. Thanks for the quick reaction on this :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 11:56, 4 December 2019 (EST)

== Adding New Magazines ==

When adding a new magazine/fanzine, please use the number of the magazine "Colecția "Povestiri științifico-fantastice", #50" and not the EDITOR yearly record title as a title for the new publication. This will cause less confusion and a lot less cleanup at the end. And if it is not attended to immediately, the record does not look weird. :) Thanks! (an yes, our magazines can be challenging) :)  [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 12:29, 4 December 2019 (EST)

== Colecția "Povestiri științifico-fantastice", #24 ==

When an artist is credited specifically in a publication, we use that form of the name (so in [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?747866 this one], the cover artist should be credited as D. Ionescu as per your notes - I changed it and added the needed parent. The canonical name is used when we credit based on secondary source, signature or other means that do not include the pub itself. If your note did not mean that he is created like that, what does it mean exactly? Thanks! [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 13:09, 4 December 2019 (EST)

== Notes ==

"Data from another source (details should be provided in the submitted Note)" means that you need to add a manual note on sources. It may  be as easy as "Data from Wikipedia and GR" if this is what you used or even just "Data from GR". If there is no PV, we need a note on the sources even if there are external IDs added :) Thanks! [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 13:17, 5 December 2019 (EST)

I'm holding your merge for the two "Cetatea morților" titles. You are merging one that is entered a regular story and one that is entered a graphic story (the graphic format flag) and merging them both as a graphic story. I cannot read the original source material, but what I can figure out this doesn't seem correct as the original versions were not graphic. Can you elaborate? == Sources and typographical errors ==

Hi.  For your submission to change the author credit on {{T|2669469|Sara lucrează cu Nevăstuica}} from "Walter Jon William" to "Walter Jon William'''<u>s</u>'''", while there is no doubt that "Williams" the correct spelling of his name, ISFDB policy is to capture what appears in the original publication, making the misspelled name a pseudonym/alternate name for the correct spelling.  Here the situation is more complicated, because the title comes from {{P|754113|Anticipația CPSF 502}}, the sole source of which is a not-authoritative [https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anticipa%C8%9Bia_CPSF_500-578 Wikipedia page] that could very well contain a typo instead of accurately reflecting the credit in the magazine.

No matter what we think is correct, we cannot have only the "ro.wikipedia" source citation and the "Williams" spelling, as the two do not agree.  In this case, where we have no other instances of the "William" misspelling and an unreliable data source (also note for example, others use the correct spelling, such as [https://www.okazii.ro/revista-cpsf-anticipatia-colectia-de-povestiri-stiintifico-fantastice-nr-502-walter-john-williams-sara-lucreaza-cu-nevastuica-jackk-vance-a139153301 here]), I think it is ok to correct the spelling as you submission does.  But then we need to adjust the notes in the publication to mention that the source has the misspelling and that we have used the correct spelling in its place.  That way, if anyone ever does have a copy of the magazine and finds the spelling to be "William", they will know it is ok to change the record to use the misspelling, instead of worrying about whether there are two editions of the magazine, one with the spelling corrected.

I hope that makes sense.  I will accept your submission and change the note in the publication.  Thanks.  --[[User:MartyD|MartyD]] 11:23, 29 December 2019 (EST)

:Hi. We have [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/images/4/45/NTCPCPSFXT1993.jpg the cover, with "Walter Jon William'''<u>s</u>'''"]. And [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/Image:Anticipa%C8%9Bia_CPSF_502_pp._20.jpg this file] from inside.--[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 12:12, 29 December 2019 (EST)

::A ha!  So there's more source than the Wikipedia page. :-)  Sorry, I missed the credit on the cover.  I'll adjust the note to reflect the information you provided here, if you haven't done so already.  --[[User:MartyD|MartyD]] 06:53, 31 December 2019 (EST)

== ASIN for a tp record ==

Hello, you've added an ASIN in [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?4539028 this] submission. Can you explain why you added it to a tp edition? Normally, ASINs are only added to Kindle records. If you need to refer to an ASIN that does not belong to the publication, you can mention it in the notes using the ASIN [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/Help:Using_Templates_and_HTML_in_Note_Fields#Templates  template]. Something like ''Additional information from the Kindle edition (<nowiki>{{ASIN|B00VTXHJ38}}</nowiki>)''. [[User:MagicUnk|MagicUnk]] 16:54, 4 January 2020 (EST)

:Hi, [[User:MagicUnk|MagicUnk]]. I think I just added this ASIN like an External links not like an External IDs. But it's a good ideea with this template. I believe, I will cancel this submission, is too much to work ([http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?706389 100 stories] to add and other related tasks). I would need help. ::Hi. No need to cancel. You can move the ASIN ID to the notes using the template, and gradually add the contents bit by bit. However, there's no need to enter the title series if the titles is a variant because it then automatically inherits the series from the parent title, in this case from ''Troll Bridge''. == Source info in notes & chapbook SHORTFICTION title record required ==

Hi Florin, just a reminder to not forget to add the source from where you got the information from in the notes. For example, in your recent submission {{t|758145|Vînătoarea}} I ''assume'' the data is coming from printrecarti.ro. However, unless explicitly stated in the notes it is so, there's always the ''possibility'' that the data is coming from somewhere else instead. Not a big deal, but thought I'd mention it anyway:)

Another thing to not forget is that CHAPBOOK pubs always require a SHORTFICTION title in the contents section too - I've updated {{t|758145|Vînătoarea}} with a novella-length title record for you. Greetings, [[User:MagicUnk|MagicUnk]] 15:27, 22 January 2020 (EST)

== Cutezătorii ==

Hello, I've approved your Cutezătorii magazine submissions, but I have a few questions if I may. Magazine EDITOR titles require the series field to be filled in. I am assuming ''Cutezătorii'' is the magazine's actual name, is it? If so, you can use that in the series field. I'm also confused as to what the number between brackets means. Could you clarify what ''37 (103)'' signifies in the title ' ''Cutezatorii 37 (103)'' '? We standardize magazine titles to ' ''title, date'' ', or ' ''title, issue no, date'' '. If it is the issue number, you could enter it as ' ''Cutezatorii, #37 (103)'' ', or ' ''Cutezătorii, #37 (103), September 1969'' ' for example (depends whether September 1969 is the issue's actual release date or not). - see [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/Help:Screen:NewPub#Title here] for some more information. Finally, did you use the images from the cover and contents as sources for the entry, or do you happen to have other source(s)? Thank you very much for your answers! :Hi, [[User:MagicUnk|MagicUnk]]. '37' is 37th issue of that year (1969) and '103' is number 103 since the publication of the magazine (in total) First issue -- in September 1967. In this case, I find it easier to use this name, but (I believe) we still have to use the standard ( ' ''title, date'' ', or ' ''title, issue no, date'' '). I don't have other sources at this time.--[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 00:43, 23 January 2020 (EST)

:: Ah, sounds like yearly volumes then. You should then either change the title into something like ' ''Cutezatorii, #103, September 1969'' ', and/or add an explanatory note that it is the 37th issue of 1969, 103rd issue since the magazine's conception. Regards, [[User:MagicUnk|MagicUnk]] 13:32, 24 January 2020 (EST)

:: And, you should upload the scan of the cover by using the "Upload cover scan" link, instead of having the link in the webpages multifield. [[User:MagicUnk|MagicUnk]] 13:40, 24 January 2020 (EST)

== Jules Verne translations ==

I have been documenting the various translations of Jules Verne's works and trying to identify a piece of text from each translation so editors can position their publications under the correct title record. You are on record as a primary verifier for one or more publications for which I am looking for text or which are placed under a generic translation title. I would be grateful if you could assist in this by checking your copies, as listed below, and providing the initial text for missing translations or an indication of the translation for those unspecified. These are listed on the [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/Jules_Verne_Translations Jules Verne Translations] wiki. Thank you. ../[[User:Holmesd|Doug H]] 14:24, 10 May 2020 (EDT)

Hello. I have [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?4748282 your submission] on hold for a moment, as I'm wondering where the price you've submitted is coming from, and whether it is the price ''at time of publication'' (which is the price we need to record)? Is it printed on or in the book (which would be perfect)? Not sure if you own the book? If you do, consider verifying the publication record. The reference [https://www.targulcartii.ro/dorel-dorian-red/fictiuni-pentru-revolver-si-orchestra-albatros-1970-683269] you provided has (as of 2020-09-06) Lei 3.20, and Lei 7.99 as list(?) price. Could you confirm which is which? Thanks! [[User:MagicUnk|MagicUnk]] 10:12, 6 September 2020 (EDT)

Fantascienza/NILF is one of the external ID we support so when you use them as a source, instead of adding the link to the Web Pages, add the ID to the proper ID :) I fixed it [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?792955 here]. I also removed that short story that you added for some reason (the thing starting on page 3 is the novel itself) and cleaned up the formatting of the price and pages fields. [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 11:43, 14 September 2020 (EDT)

: Okay, good to know for the future - we only have a few books at isfdb ([http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pubseries.cgi?1656 approx. 14]) out of a total of [https://www.fantascienza.com/catalogo/volumi/NILF115246/la-quattro-lune-di-darkover/ 208]. --[[User:Terraflorin|Florin]] 11:50, 14 September 2020 (EDT)

:: We do not have an active Italian editor at the moment so most of the books we have are either from people who own them and added them before or being added slowly the way you just added this one). We miss a lot of books, especially non-English ones. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 11:58, 14 September 2020 (EDT)
