Welcome!

Hello, Petersdrang, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 10:38, 9 April 2023 (EDT)

Linking images

I approved this submission adding the link to scifiwise, but I removed the image using an unauthorized hot-link. I suggest uploading the image using the instructions here. Let me know if you need assistance or would like me to take care of it. John Scifibones 10:39, 30 May 2023 (EDT)

I own the drangstories.com website, how do I go about getting it approved by isfdb.org? I can do whatever you need to grant permission. —The preceding unsigned comment added by Petersdrang (talkcontribs) 16:17, June 7, 2023‎
That's great! Could you please send your permission to link to images hosted by rangstories.com to my email address, ahasuerus AT email.com? As long as the authorizing email comes from:
I should be able to confirm the request and add "drangstories.com" to the list of supported domain names. It may take me a few days since I am currently sick, but I'll get to it as soon as I can. Thanks in advance! Ahasuerus (talk) 19:36, 7 June 2023 (EDT)
Great, I have sent the permission email. If you don't see it, please check your spam folder. I appreciate your help, and there is no rush. Hope you feel better soon! Petersdrang (talk) 09:58, 8 June 2023 (EDT)
Email received, thanks! Ahasuerus (talk) 12:05, 8 June 2023 (EDT)

SciFiwise Magazine

Any moderator commenting on the SciFiwise Magazine submission, please note that our site now has an explicit note allowing isfdb to use any image on scifiwise.com. You can find the note on our "About" page here: [1] and click on the tab for "Polices and Legal Stuff" and you'll see a note at the end of that section explicitly giving isfdb.org permission to use any image. Thanks for letting us know! I'll try to update the ISFDB software later today. Ahasuerus (talk) 13:54, 24 June 2023 (EDT)

SciFiwise March 2023

Hi, and belated (a) welcome and (b) getting to your submission for the March 2023 SciFiwise. You did a nice job! Two small thing I changed were to add a SciFiwise Magazine series and to make the publication record's website link be the link for that edition instead of the main site. I moved the main site's link to the new series. You can add notes/links/etc. to that and to the new Mindwise Media, LLC publisher page.

Just FYI, for if/when you enter the other issues: We handle magazines in a bit of an odd way. To keep down clutter, when a periodical has more than one issue per year, we merge all of the title records (the title record for what you just entered is this) into a master title record for that year and the publication records for each of the year's issues are associated with that one title. For example, see the Analog series, the title record for 1972, and the publication records for the January and February issues. There is nothing you can (or should) do about any of that in advance. As you enter further issues, the records for those issues will get created, and only then can we merge them under a yearly title. If you (or I or other editor) wanted to, you could edit this to look like the eventual yearly title: Change it to be "SciFiwise Magazine - 2023", change the date from 2023-03-00 to 2023-00-00, and change the website link there to something generic, such as https://scifiwise.com/scifiwise-magazine-issues/ (if you ever add yearly breakdown on your site, then a link to the year-specific anchor would be ideal to use here). Or we can just wait until you have entered more than one issue. That editing work only needs to be done once. After the yearly title is set up, when we merge a new issue's title into it, we keep that yearly version and discard the month-specific one that gets created automatically when you enter the new issue.

If that second paragraph is confusing, just ignore it! :-) I am only trying to let you know what will be coming. If you have any questions, just ask. Thanks, and thank you for contributing. --MartyD (talk) 08:41, 2 July 2023 (EDT)

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation (although I'm still wrapping my head around it!) I'm taking most of this week off but will start adding the newer issues next week and I will do my best to adhere to all these procedures. A bit of a learning curve, but it does make sense, your system has to handle a vast variety of situations and that is going to cause some complexity. Petersdrang (talk) 11:45, 3 July 2023 (EDT)
