Welcome!

Hello, Judas, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:27, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

If, May 1962

It is highly unlikely that the moderator processing your edit will be the verifier of the publication. Instead, you should contact the verifier by clicking on the verifier's name under the publication which will take you to their wiki page. You then click the "discussion" link at the top of their page which will take you to their discussion page where you can leave comment. Or, you can use the ISFDB:Verification requests page. You can email a user by going to their user page and clicking the "E-mail this user" link on the left hand side of the page. I have left a message for Swfritter (the primary verifier of that magazine) regarding your note. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:27, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

See this discussion. Please communicate with Swfritter to resolve the discrepancy. In the meantime, I will have to reject your edit. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:25, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

How to upload a cover scan to the ISFDB server

First, you must be signed into both the database and its wiki using the same username and password which you used to create your account.

  • Go to the publication record whose cover image file you want to upload. Click on the link "Upload cover scan" (or it may say "Upload new cover scan" if there is already a file linked to the record.)
  • On the next screen, click on the button "Choose File". This opens a window in which you find the file on your computer. The file should not be more than 150 kb in size and the image should not be more than 600 pixels at its longest side.
  • Once the file is chosen (its name will appear to the right of the "Choose file button), click on the button "Upload file".
  • You may get a warning if the file exceeds the standards, or if there is already a file on the server for this publication. If you're certain that the image you're uploading is better, click the "Save file" button ("Ignore warning and save file anyway"). You may have to clear your cache if you've viewed the old image. Hitting "F5" on your keyboard will clear the cache of most browsers and you'll see the file you just uploaded.

Now you've uploaded a cover image file to the server. The next step is to link it to the publication record.

  • Copy the URL of the file you just uploaded. (The URL address can be copied by left clicking anywhere on the image and copying the URL from your browser's address window. Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location" or something similar depending upon your browser.)
  • Go back to the pub record (it's linked on the image's wiki page) and then click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu.
  • A edit page will open. Under the Publication Metadata section, there's a field labeled "Image URL:" Paste the URL of the image you uploaded into this field, and then click on the "Submit Data" button at the bottom of the page.

Once the submission has been moderated the cover image will be linked to the publication record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 00:58, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Gallegher

Thanks for the heads up re: the two Gallegher series! I have disambiguated them and things look much better now :) Ahasuerus 07:47, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
