Welcome!

Hello, Deepsettpress, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:23, 3 November 2018 (EDT)

Additions

I have accepted your additions, but made a number of changes to match ISFDB conventions. Some particulars for future reference:

  • ISBN13 should be used for post-2007 publications.
  • Prices should use the currency symbol as we deal in multiple currencies.
  • Pages numbers should be given.
  • Bookseller links should not go into the web page field. The software will automatically add links to the publication page. The web page field is for sites about the title.
  • Reviews are for reviews within a publication (like a magazine book review column); not for reviews about a publication.
  • Synopsis should be a short, neutrally written description; not a promo.

We do appreciate your submissions. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:23, 3 November 2018 (EDT)

The Massachussetts Review

There were too many issues with this entry. I rejected it and created a new one instead. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:23, 3 November 2018 (EDT)

Hi, I added two of your uploaded images to their respective publications but deleted the one for The Massachusetts Review, Winter 2015 as we don't add them on our server for nongenre publications. Sorry for that (but thanks for your contributions!). Stonecreek 01:38, 4 November 2018 (EST)
Some other links for cover images had to be deleted since we don't have the allowance to link to them. Stonecreek 02:32, 4 November 2018 (EST)

Flapperhouse #2

I intend to change the date of this issue from 2014-07-00 to 2014-00-00 because the cover date is "Summer 2014." See Help:Screen:NewPub#Date: "For magazine cover dates which cannot be assigned to a specific month, use the year only, e.g. 'Spring 1943' should be entered as '1943-00-00'."--Vasha (cazadora de tildes) 16:32, 24 November 2018 (EST)

Please be aware that there's an ongoing discussion here or in short here. For the reasons mentioned in them, there are good reasons to don't change the date. Stonecreek 02:30, 25 November 2018 (EST)

Date of magazines

When a magazine has an exact cover date (for instance, Wicked Words Quarterly #1 states "June 2014" on the cover), use that date instead of the date of publication. I have corrected WWQ (and also added lengths to the stories in that magazine). --Vasha (cazadora de tildes) 17:06, 23 December 2018 (EST)

Your recent submission for magazines ...

... have been put on hold, as they don't appear to be magazines at all. It seems you are trying to add only some contents of magazines, is that correct? Stonecreek 02:53, 3 January 2019 (EST)

Entering chapterbooks

Hi, be sure to enter content too, next time when you're entering a chapterbook. And do not forget the currency sign either, we're an international database.--Dirk P Broer 04:39, 6 January 2019 (EST)

Be Closer for my Burn

Hi, this one is not a collection, it is a chapbook of 9 poems. It contains no fiction. Thanks Deepsettpress 13:05, 6 January 2019 (EST)

Poems are also fiction. If it contains 9 poems, it is a collection, not a chapterbook. Why is it named Be Closer for my Burn? Why is "Be Closer for my Bur" nominated for an Elgin? In the category 'chapterbook'? Where can I find that?--Dirk P Broer 15:17, 6 January 2019 (EST)

Deepsettpress 15:27, 6 January 2019 (EST)

I've linked the award to the title record (not the publication record as you suggested. One title can have lots of publications.).--Dirk P Broer 15:34, 7 January 2019 (EST)

Mobius: The Journal of Social Change

Hi, I removed (perhaps accidentally) a NONFICTION item from the Summer 2015 issue. As I realized with the other issue you added you may have meant ESSAY instead, as NONFICTIONs (like NOVELs, COLLECTIONs & ANTHOLOGies) are usually featured in stand-alone publications. If so, I'm sorry for that - but was it an ESSAY in the first place? Stonecreek 02:47, 7 January 2019 (EST)

They're editorial essays, yes. Deepsettpress 04:20, 7 January 2019 (EST)

Award fix

You can always just edit the award and not a new one:) I cleaned up the old one as well. Thanks for adding this. Annie 16:13, 24 September 2019 (EDT)

'Edited by' and the use of two -or more- initials.

Hi, Please never add 'Edited by' in a name field. Being editor of a magazine is handled (presentation-wise) by the software, you only have to enter the name in the name field. Otherwise you created a new person with the name 'Edited by John Doe'. Also remember to leave a space between two initials in an author's name e.g. T. R. Jones.--Dirk P Broer 19:24, 16 December 2019 (EST)

Silver Blade Magazine, Issue 41, Winter 2019

I changed the title of Silver Blade Magazine, Issue 41, Winter 2019 to "Silver Blade, Winter 2019" and the series from "Silver Blade Magazine" to "Silver Blade". This was what we were calling the magazine. I also changed the editor to "Karl Rademacher". "John C. Mannone" is only the poetry editor. John Scifibones 16:09, 26 June 2021 (EDT)
