File extensions

In the first step, should we mention that files with the .jpg extension are acceptable or is that implied by JPEG? Would most uploaders know that? Perhaps we should list the file extensions, instead of or in addition to the formats. MHHutchins 17:21, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

There is a message listing the acceptable extensions somewhere, which is the authoritative list. If I can find it, I'll link to that. I think most uploaders will know that a JPEG file can have either a jpeg or jpg extension, but it does not hurt to be explicit. -DES ^Talk 17:24, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I have added the list of extensions. According to this mediawiki help page these are set in DefaultSettings.php, and may be locally overridden in LocalSettings.php. I can't display that file, so I am assuming we still use the defaults. There is no particular reason to have changed them that I can see.

Adding license tag in step 7

Perhaps we should mention in step 7 that the license tag can be added here in order to save an edit after upload. MHHutchins 17:27, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Reasonable. When providing a link to another section of the same page, you can use the form [[#Section name]]. It is shorter and somewhat more robust than using a external (url based) link (it survives unchanged if the domain changes, or the page is renamed, for one thing). -DES ^Talk 19:35, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Streamlining the Step by Step

To make it look less challenging (with hope that the perception alone may help to attract more uploaders), perhaps we can make the first three steps into a heading for this section.
