Welcome!

Hello, Pschatt, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Rudam 04:10, 8 August 2021 (EDT)

Selbstgespräch mit Protoplasma

Hello! We appreciate that you contribute to our database. I have approved your submission of Selbstgespräch mit Protoplasma but have added some supplements such as the format and the price. There is one more request. Is the publication date actually 2019 or rather 2009? Regards Rudolf Rudam 04:42, 8 August 2021 (EDT)

The EXODUS Incident

Hello! I also approved your submission of The EXODUS Incident. I have changed one content to comply with the ISFDB rules. There is no space after the € sign. I have a further question. Are two separate novels included in the book or one novel with two parts? Regards Rudolf Rudam 05:26, 8 August 2021 (EDT)

Selbstgespräch mit Protoplasma: Re-Hello. Thank you so much, the publ. date is 2009. My mistake.--Pschatt 18:19, 15 August 2021 (EDT)

The Exodus Incident: Hello again. It is one novel with two parts. In this Springer series the second part after the novel is always a scientific explanation. In the present case, this 2nd part belongs to the novel itself. Thanks for verifying. --Pschatt 18:25, 15 August 2021 (EDT)

More questions about 'The EXODUS Incident': The used ISBN belongs to pb printing. The ebook has onother one. What kind of copy do you own? Is the price on your copy? And which currency? ISFDB doesn't use page numbers for ebooks if they aren't paginated. The contents may be the same as here. --Zapp 15:53, 26 August 2021 (EDT)

Thanks for checking. Yes, this is the pb version of the ebook here. I changed it to pb together with the price in Euro. --Pschatt 11:55, 27 August 2021 (EDT)

Noticed title has EXODUS in all-caps - this needs to be updated to lowercase 'Exodus', as we regularize our titles to conform to formatting standards. Please submit an update. Thanks! Regards, MagicUnk 15:09, 27 August 2021 (EDT)
Welcome to our little database, it's good to have you here!
The 'EXODUS' in the title ought to stay, as it is the name of a space ship and is in caps throughout the novel; I changed the title type accordingly. The date seems to have to be adapted to the one stated at Buchhandel.de and Amazon: 2021-05-22. Welcome again, Christian Stonecreek 04:00, 28 August 2021 (EDT)
Also, I transferred the title series 'Science and Fiction' to the publication series field (they are quite different things: your Heavensgate / Singularities Universe is a title series, which I introduced to ISFDB - maybe missing some titles that should belong there), whereas Science and Fiction is a publication series that is associated with the publishing house 'Springer'. It seems to be appropriate to change the publisher for The EXODUS Incident to the latter, as we do have only one publication as by 'Springer Nature'. Thanks, Christian Stonecreek 04:24, 28 August 2021 (EDT)
There is no provision in the rules that allow ship names (or any other names for that matter) to be in all-caps. Exodus needs to be in lower case - unless you are referring to ... unless there is some specific evidence that the author intended certain letters to be in a specific case...? But even then, I wouldn't enter names in all caps. MagicUnk 06:31, 28 August 2021 (EDT)
NB: Ship names in all caps are used in the German Perry Rhodan series. --Zapp 03:44, 29 August 2021 (EDT)
Thanks again. I am impressed by all these details! Not essential but being the author, I would prefer all-caps for the ship as it appears on the title page. And: Does an entry really appear twice when published as pb and ebook?--Pschatt 05:52, 29 August 2021 (EDT)
Okay, point taken :) And yes, there are distinct publication records for each printing of paperback, ebook, hc, ... Can be easily added by updating a cloned existing pub record - see left-hand menu. MagicUnk 10:14, 29 August 2021 (EDT)
I'd think the majority of German science fiction set in space uses this as a rule-of-thumb. And yes, even the different printings of a specific (print) edition are in ISFDB (or at least aimed at); see for example the three entries of the anthology "Phantastische Träume" for your novelette Die Jez'r-Fragmente.
