Welcome!

Hello, Jimbomcc, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 18:10, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

It Came From the Cinema

I accepted your submission of It Came From the Cinema, but had to make some edits to comply with ISFDB standards.

  • Title: I changed the title from "It Came From the Cinema (Deathgrip 3)" to "DeathGrip: It Came from the Cinema". We record the publication title as printed on the title page. If the title page used something different, then please update. However, the submitted title seemed to be the catalog record so I changed it to match the cover.
  • Publication Date: The date as submitted was "0000-00-00". I changed that to "2005-00-00". ISFDB uses "yyyy-mm-dd" format.
  • Editor: I changed the editor name to "Horns". We credit publications exactly as listed in the publication. If the publication used a different version on the title page then what is listed on the cover, then please update to match the title page.
  • Cover Image: I removed the cover image link as we can only use images from sites that have explicitly given us permission to do so. See ISFDB:Image linking permissions for a list of such sites. If you wish to contact the site to see about permission, the instructions to do so are below the list.

We do appreciate your submission. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:23, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

re email: I've added the contents based on the website. Publication contents can be added when submitting it or afterwards. The help pages mentioned in the welcome message provide instructions. If anything is not clear, feel free to ask. I'd suggest using the wiki (the help desk is a good place) instead of email as multiple people will see it and be able to help you. -- JLaTondre (talk) 23:27, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
DRAGON - Could seomeone please help. My novel DRAGON still isn't showing on my main page. It has moved from pending to recent edits (and wasn't rejected). Could anyone help? thanks James McCormick

Continuum #5, Winter 2006

I had to reject your submission to create a new publication record for this issue. There is one already in the database. Please update that record to add the contents. Thanks. Mhhutchins 15:31, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Same situation with Continuum #6, Summer 2006 which is here. Use the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu, add any missing data in the Metadata section, and create content records in the Contents section. If you need assistance just ask. Mhhutchins 15:34, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Thirteen Stories #12

I accepted the submission adding this publication to the database, but there are several problems with it which I will correct. Please keep these in mind when adding future publications.

  1. There was no date given, or if it was, it was given in the wrong format and defaulted to "unknown". Dates should be given in the following format: YYYY-MM-DD. If the month and/or date is not known, they can be zeroed out, but that must be done in the field, e.e. 2013-00-00.
  2. A periodical's ISSN is neither an ISBN nor a catalog number, so it should not be given in the ISBN/Catalog # field. You can add it to the Note field if you feel the need to include it in the record.
  3. In my research, I found this issues listed in the Locus index, and it provides the complete data information, some conflicting with yours. Most notably the publisher name and the cover art credit. I will not change the record based on this data, but if the data you provided is incorrect, please update the record. Do you know what the 12 extra pages given in the Locus listing could be?
  4. You misspelled the title of your story "The Kingdomn of Madness" according to the Locus listing. If this is incorrect, I'll let you make the correction.

I will make changes in the metadata section and ask that you edit the record to correct any other data. Mhhutchins 15:49, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Also, it would be nice if you could add the entire contents of a publication, if only the fiction. Thanks. Mhhutchins 15:55, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I inputted the story contents for 13 Stories. Also, I redid Science Fiction Continuum using the link given - my stories don't seem to have appeared though on my story titles page. Could you please advise? (NB, I plan to go back and input the rest of the titles in this magazine by the weekend)—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jimbomcc (talkcontribs) .
thank you SORRY!!! They've just appeared —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jimbomcc (talkcontribs) .
All submissions are moderated. These submissions may sit in the queue for a minute or a day, depending upon the availability of the moderators. You can check to see if your submissions are waiting for moderation by clicking the "My Pending Edits" link on the Home Page.
Also, don't forget to sign your posts with four tildes. And add a colon at the beginning to the number of colons in the previous post on the same topic. This will indent the post from the previous one and makes it easier to follow the discussion. Thanks. Mhhutchins 21:09, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Ambitions

Was this a speculative fiction magazine, or was it a general fiction publication (we call in nongenre). If so, it must follow the guidelines for nongenre magazines, and only include content records for spec-fic stories. Also, is there an issue number, or a monthly dating? This should be included in the title field of the record. I'll hold the submission until you're able to respond. Thanks. Mhhutchins 21:23, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

It was a non genre publication, a mixture of book reviews, articles and one piece of fiction (mine). The back page says issue 2 volume 2. The month is August. I hope this is enough - apologies for not including this before. Jimbomcc 17:34, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
I'll accept the submission and make the changes for it to conform with non-genre magazine standards. Thanks. Mhhutchins 02:52, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Another question: is this a 16-page paperback (an unusual format for a magazine), or is it closer to one of the other designations described here (see print magazine section)? Mhhutchins 02:56, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
looking over the link you kindly provided, I think ph (pamphlet) applies to this publication. thanks

Dragon and your e-mail

Sorry, but everybody seems to have overlooked your want of help above; so thanks for your mail. The reason Dragon didn't show up on your page was that it was on that of (slighty related) author James Austin McCormick, whose author summary page was automatically generated on accepting the submission for the novel. Two questions remain: was the novel published as by your full name (ISFDB standard is to use the title and name as stated on the title page of a publication, which might differ to the ones depicted on cover and/or spine), and which name would you prefer as canonical: the full name or its shorter version? Thank you again for bringing this omission to our attention. Stonecreek 12:49, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Yes, the novel was published under my full name (James Austin McCormick). My full name is on the cover of the novel. I would like to use my full name from now on please. I plan to have my new works published under my full name also. Thank you so much for your kind reply - I very much appreciate it - JAMES
Okay, now you have a new author summary page, see here. I transferred your mail address & photo and also transferred the bio wiki page. I didn't transfer the bibliography, though (this one). Since you kindly added the fiction to our database, you have to decide if you want to still have it around. Cheers! Stonecreek 15:28, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
Addendum: To be sure to catch help somewhat faster, better to put a request on the Help Desk. This way it will not be overlooked. Stonecreek 15:32, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
