Gerald M. Weinberg

I see that you created Bio:Gerald M. Weinberg. I also see that most of it is an unattributed copy of the wikipedia article about him. As you will see in our Biography Policy and our Biography Guidelines we do not normally duplicate Wikipedia biographies, and most of our Bio pages are used for SF authors who do not (or do not yet) have wikipedia biographies. The ISFDB has a facility for adding a link to the Wikipedia article for each author from the authors database page. I have added such a link to our db page for Gerald M. Weinberg.

I can replace the wikipedia bio parts with other bios, if that would be better. —The preceding unsigned comment added by FineWein (talk • contribs) 16:20, 4 August 2010
In general, when a person is "notable" enough to have a Wikipedia bio, we simply link to the wikipedia article rather than provide a redundant bio. The exception would be when there is specifically SF-related biographical content which Wikipedia does not (and is not likely to) include. If the content would be appropriate for the Wikipedia article it is often better to simply add it there. -DES Talk 22:00, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

I note that the Wikipedia article does not give Weinberg's birth date nor even his birth year. If you know this, you can add it to Gerald M. Weinberg or even just list it here and I or another editor will do so.

I note that the Wikipedia article does not have a picture of Dr. Weinberg. If you have one that is freely available (that is not under copyright restrictions) it can be linked to from the Weinberg author page, or posted on the ISFDB server.

If you are, as your user name suggests, yourself Gerald M. Weinberg, you may, if you choose, release a photo of yourself for use here (or indeed for use on Wikipedia). See Help: How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki or feel free to ask for help here or at the help desk.

I also note that you list on the bio page several fiction works not yet in the ISFDB. These should be added to the db proper, that is much more effective than simply listing them in a bio page. -DES Talk 20:46, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

I tried to add them, but got hung up on:
"Next, find the link on the left navigation bar that says "New Novel", and click that."

That link is in the navigation bar section entitled "Add New Data:" You will probably need to scroll down to see it, depending on your screen size and resolution.

Wiki conventions

We generally indent successive responses using leading colons (one for each indent level). This helps keep who is saying what in response to what clearer.

Please sign your talk posts with four tildes (~~~~). The software will convert this to your username and a timestamp, or to your custom signature and a timestamp if you set one in your wiki preferences. The rightmost but one of the editing tools (row of buttons just above the edit window when editing) will insert the tildes for you.

Author Images

If there is an image on a page you can give the ISFDB permission to hotlink to, its URL can simply be added to the author page. Navigate to Gerald M. Weinberg and select the "Edit Author Data" link in the "Editing tools" section of the navigation bar on the left. You will probably need to scroll down to see this section it is the fourth section, each with a black header of the navigation bar. Click the link, enter the URL in the "Author Image:" field, and click the 'Submit Data' button at the bottom (you may need to scroll down)

Noe that as spelled out in ISFDB:Image linking permissions we don't hotlink to sites without permission.

Or an image may be uploaded to the ISFDB server. See Help: How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki for details. Then the image's URL on the ISFDB server can be added to the author page as above.
