Welcome!

Hello, EsperKnight, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! BLongley 18:40, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Daughter of the Bright Moon

This was a pretty good first submission, but can I share a few tips with you?

  • When you see an Amazon Image URL like ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21lO0HFmBzL._SL500_AA160_.jpg , you can usually take out the _SL500_ and _AA160_ parts to get an image without the big white border. I changed it to ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21lO0HFmBzL.jpg and your pub now looks like this - have a look and see if it matches your intentions.
  • You created the entry entirely from scratch I presume - well done on getting the date entry in the right format, that's normally the first mistake people make! - but it would have been slightly easier all round if you'd found the existing "Daughter of the Bright Moon" title and used "Add Publication to This Title". It saves you entering the Title and Author from scratch, and saves us moderators from having to merge the titles afterwards. Even better is if you can Clone an existing publication - we've got several Ace entries already, you could probably have cloned the Feb 1980 edition and just changed date, ISBN and price.
  • Which brings me to the one likely error - the price for your edition is HIGHER than some of the other paperback editions we know about: that normally means it's a later edition. Is it possible you gave the date of the First printing, rather than the date for your printing? If your copy doesn't give any date apart from the first printing, but shows via the number-line that it's a later printing, we'd record the date as 0000-00-00 and leave the printing number in notes. We'll sort the real date out from secondary sources eventually.

Citizen of the Galaxy

I see that you would like to change the publication date of one of the Ace reprints of Citizen of the Galaxy from 0000-00-00 to 1957-00-00. Unfortunately, Ace had a bad habit of not stating when it published its paperback reprints or even the printing number. They often used the copyright date instead, so all of their 1960s and early 1970s reprints would mention 1957 on the copyright page.

I have approved the submission, but then changed the date back and added the following note: "According to the MELVYL catalog, which cites American Book Publishing Record, it appeared in 1975, but we already have a later 1975 printing (#10601) on file with a higher price, so this one likely appeared in the early 1970s." Thanks! Ahasuerus 22:07, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Starsong

I have approved the addition of Dan Parkinson's Star Song, but then I changed the spelling of the title to Starsong and merged it with the 1989 edition of the same book. Could you please check that the title page in your copy uses Starsong and not Star Song? Thanks! Ahasuerus 23:41, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume IV

For this pub you could have used the "Clone This Pub" key. This way it copies the contents and all you have to do is change the price, ISBN/Cat# and so on. Just don't change the title or author. If you have any questions leave them on the Help page and someone will see it and reply. Thank for editing!Kraang 01:45, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I've added the contents[1] if you like you can use the "Edit This Pub" key and added the page numbers.Kraang 01:49, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

I've accepted this but added some notes as it looked awfully like Manga to start with (which gets deleted on sight usually). However some research indicates that this is in fact a true Novel and there may be others like it. Adding some notes at submission time saves moderators researching too hard or automatically rejecting items from Viz. BLongley 09:59, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Mutants Amok

Just to let you know that I have rejected the Mutants Amok submission since it was a duplicate of this record. Keep in mind that psedonymous titles appear under their real author's name and in this case "Mark Grant" was actually David Bischoff :) Ahasuerus 04:01, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
