Welcome!

Hello, Charlotteblack, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --MartyD 10:32, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Elemental: The First addition

Hi, and welcome. I have your submission that would add a paperback publication of Elemental: The First on hold. It looks to me like we already have a record for the same book here. But I'm not sure I understand what you were trying to do with the submission (your note talks about adding an image URL to other information that's already there). What do you think? You can reply here by editing this section and indenting your response by starting the line with a colon and "sign" it with four tildes (~~~~) or by using the second-from-the-right "signature" button at the top of the editor window. Thanks, and thank you for contributing. --MartyD 10:54, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

p.s. Because our software loads the image from the linked-to site each time the image is viewed, we only allow linking to sites that have given us explicit permission. Amazon is one of those sites, but NeverLeaveTheHouseAgain is not. You would have to download that image (under fair use) and upload it to our server. See ISFDB:Image linking permissions for all the details. Here, Amazon has the image, so we can make use of that (and have already done so). --MartyD 10:54, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Marty. I added most of the information one evening however at the time there was no entry for the book at all. I didn't have a no cover image so the next day I added a new entry to include just the cover (as the other info was already loaded) However I didn't realise that you imported images from Amazon so please accept my apology for the entry. Still learning!! CharlotteblackCharlotte Black
Absolutely not a problem! And moderators are here to help. I understand what happened. When you pick "Add a Publication to This Title", you are recording another publication (or another printing of a publication) of the title. To add information about a publication that is already recorded, you need to click on it (each publication is listed when you click on the title), then pick "Edit this Pub" from the menu at the left. Now you'll be in a form similar to the one you got when you added it in the first place, and you can change or add information. So I'm going to reject that submission. Check the Alexandra May bibliography (which shows the series) and this publication record to make sure all of the information you intended to record is present (and edit away if not!). If it's all good, scroll down to the "Editing Tools" while looking at the publication and click on "Verify This Pub", and there you'll be able to record that you have verified the information. That way someone will know to come here and ask you about it if they have questions. (You are not obligated to do this, but please consider it -- it's helpful to know a real person compared the record to an actual book). If you need any help, just ask. Thanks! --MartyD 23:35, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
