Welcome!

Hello, Benjamindehaan, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Annie 23:07, 21 November 2021 (EST)

Magazine dating

Hello,

We have different rules for dating magazines (and their contents) compared to books: books are dated based on any source we can find up to the date; magazines are dated based on cover date so days will be there only if the complete date is on the cover/inside of the magazine. As Sam's Pair of Gilas appeared in a magazine, it is dated based on that - so only 2021-10-00 and not 2021-10-25. We can add the exact date in the notes if there is a source for it. Welcome again and let me know if I can assist further. Thanks for fixing the title on this one! Annie 23:10, 21 November 2021 (EST)

The image on your author page

We cannot use the image you provided as we do not have the permission to deep link into tumblr. There are two options:

Dance of Death, Fall 2020

A few updates:

  • See the note above on dating :)
  • The Editors field is for the editors of the magazine, not for the contributors. The contributors get their credit on their stories/essays
  • Added format, ISBN, source, price, publisher, clean image for the cover and the template that let editors know that we are missing stories.

The result is here. Let me know if you have any questions. Annie 06:05, 22 November 2021 (EST)

Similar notes about Novel Noctule, August 2020. Annie 06:11, 22 November 2021 (EST)

Tales from the Weird Weird West

A few new things here:

  • Multiple authors make up an anthology, not a collection.
  • The Authors of an anthology are the editors, not the contributors. As with magazines, the contributors get their credit when their stories are added
  • When copying the synopsis from an online page (Amazon.com, publisher site and so on), we need to give them credit.
  • Added price, ASIN, source, page number went into the notes, incomplete template so we do not lose track of the anthology.

The result is here. As usual - let me know if you have any questions/concerns. Thanks for adding these and welcome again! Annie 06:19, 22 November 2021 (EST)

Image Sources

We can only use images from sites that have explicitly given us permission to do so. See ISFDB:Image linking permissions for a list of such sites. As such, I have had to reject this submission and modify several others. If you wish to upload images locally, please see Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki. Magazine & Anthology Editors

When entering / editing a magazine or anthology, the Author field near the top of the screen (under the "Title Data" for a new pub screen or under "Publication Metadata" for the edit screen) is for the editor only. Once displayed, the software will show it as Editor and not Author. Authors of stories within the magazine / anthology should only be entered under the "Regular Titles" section. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:09, 25 November 2021 (EST)

Growth

Growth has "First printing in September 2021" so that is the date used.

  • If a secondary source (like Amazon) has a more specific date (adds in the month or day), we can use that, but the source must be specified in the publication notes (typically done with a note like "Publication date from Amazon as of 2021-14-04" or whenever entered).
  • If a secondary source has a contradictory date (like in this case), we use the publication date and note the secondary source date in the pub notes (which is already present in this pub).

Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:36, 4 December 2021 (EST)

Cover Images

Cover image uploading is a two step process. Once you have uploaded a cover to the wiki, you need to click on the image (so you get just the image), copy that URL, and then edit the publication to add the URL to the publication. So for Image:TNTRRRSWDD2021.jpg, you needed to enter this URL, in the Image URL field of 99 Tiny Terrors. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:25, 19 December 2021 (EST)
