Andre Norton: A Profile by Lin Carter
A ten page unpaginated essay titled “Andre Norton” / “A Profile by Lin Carter” has been inserted between the copyright page and the introduction for this edition. Neither Ace D-199 nor D-527, which precede this edition, include this essay. It is not known if later editions include the essay. The resulting pagination, from the beginning of the publication is:
- Ad/blurb titled “Earthmen for Hire!”
- List of Andre Norton novels available from Ace. Please see the page detail the list of publications advertised.
- Title page.
- Copyright page.
- Essay titled Andre Norton: A Profile by Lin Carter. This essay is ten unnumbered pages.
- Pages 5 and 6 - In-universe essay titled “Introduction: The Mercenaries”.
It's worth noting that if the 10 page Lin Carter essay were not there, the pagination that starts the In-universe essay on p. 5 would be exact, including all of the preliminary pages (pp. 1-4). Thus it seems likely that these page numbers were carried over from a previous edition and the essay inserted without numbering changes.

Note that while Sea Siege (F-147) is listed as though it's an Ace single F-147 is an Ace double where the flip side story is Eye of the Monster which is also by Andre Norton. Ace's first publication of Sea Siege as a single is #75695 in 1969.
The ad lists The Defiant Agents as “G-150.” This should be “M-150.”
