Jean Doty (nee Slaughter) was born on March 19, 1929. She attended the Sir John Cass Technical Institute, and married Roy Doty in 1955. Together, they had two children before their marriage broke up. She produced and wrote for a children's television program in New York between 1952 and 1955. From a young age, Ms. Doty was an avid lover of animals, especially ponies and horses. She raised numerous dogs, horses, and ponies, including some that she shows or races. Almost all of her books are stories about horses for middle readers or young adults.[1] Her papers are kept at the Univ. of Southern Mississippi.
