In "Free Amazons of Darkover", Marion Zimmer Bradley writes of Jaida:

  • Jaida, whose name was originally Kim, has been a member of my household and my foster daughter since her seventeenth year. She was the first to make a legal name change to the Amazon version of her name, probably due to a family conflict whether in college she should use the name of her biological father, her step-father, or her mother's maiden name. Sensibly, she said "a plague on all their houses" and became simple Jaida, daughter of Sandra.

As such, her "last name" is n'ha Sandra, as with last names such as "von Humboldt" or "de Morgan", and it is listed that way on her Master's Degree[1].

Jaida is a graduate of UC Berkeley and was a Ph.D. candidate in linguistics in Australia. She was on the staff of the "Utne Reader" for two years. She received a Master's Degree in Anthropology from University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1997[1]. She is best known for her book "Salons: The Joy of Conversation."
