Andrew Fraknoi is an astronomer and astronomy educator, who is the Chair of the Astronomy Department at Foothill College and Senior Educator at the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. He was the scientific editor for two collections of science and science fiction, published in the 1980's, and has written articles and resource guides to using science fiction in the teaching of astronomy.

Asteroid 4859 has been named Asteroid Fraknoi by the International Astronomical Union to honor his work in sharing the excitement of modern astronomy with students, teachers, and the public.
