Hi, as Ivica Stevanovic was born in 1977 I've added 'Republic of Yugoslavia' to 'Niš, Serbia'. We record the place of birth as it was <i>at the time of birth</i>. In 1977 there still was the Republic of Yugoslavia.--[[User:Dirk P Broer|Dirk P Broer]] 11:48, 30 December 2017 (EST)

Hello,
 +
 +
What is the source of the change in pages in [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?396262 this one] from 83 to 96? Keep in mind that we do not count the empty pages at the end of a book and both OCLC and National Library of Australia agree on it being 83 pages. The rules for page numbers are [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php?title=Template:PublicationFields:Pages here]. Do you own the book? Can you describe what is on the pages beyond 83? I temporary restored it to 83 but will be happy to change it back if it proved to be 96 (which sounds like the usual Amazon number which counts all pages in the book). Thanks! :Yes, I get 96 pages fom Amazon. I mixed up page count principle with FantLab's, wehere required full quantity of pages including any additional, technical and empty. Please leave 83. Thank you and sorry for disadvantage. --[[User:Zlogorek|Zlogorek]] 18:00, 24 July 2018 (EDT)

:: No worries at all :) I assumed that something like that happened so came to ask :) And yes - FantLab uses the complete number of page, not just the printed ones. Thanks for the confirmation! [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 19:09, 24 July 2018 (EDT)

Just a note - when you add a translator, we have a template for that (to be used in any Notes field): <nowiki>{{Tr|name}}</nowiki> which gets resolved as "Translated by name". More details [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/Help:Using_Templates_and_HTML_in_Note_Fields#Non-Linking_Templates here]. Hello,

Please note that you do not need to add "br" tags in the notes unless you want the first line to go to the next line (then you add one at the start) or want to have an empty line (then you need to add two tags next to each other). A lot of the older notes have them from the days when they were needed in order for a new line to be rendered but this changed a few years ago. Thanks! Thanks for the update regarding the author [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?2066432 here]. Mistakes do happen - someone did not check and automatically varianted because the pseudonym had another parent already. I've added a note to warn people that it is used by multiple people. Please note that when that happens we also need to make the pseudonym an alternative name for the actual writer. Hello,
 +
 +
All variants and so on are done - the result is [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?775552 here].
 +
I changed the publisher to "Freedom / Эксмо" though - the title page of the book visible an Eksmo's site shows the imprint clearly and we try to follow that (when available).
 +
 +
I am not sure that "Young Adult. Рожденная стихиями" should be a publishing series. Yes, I know that both Eksmo and Fantlab have it and I can see on the copyright page of the book but this is the title series in Russian - we will have thousands of those which will make them almost useless. What do you think?
 +
 +
I added the Russian spelling of the series [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pe.cgi?46727 here] for now - one day we may do something with those, for now we just store them there. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 12:49, 26 May 2020 (EDT)

:Hi Annie! Thanks for approving my submission.
 +
 +
:"> I am not sure that "Young Adult. Рожденная стихиями" should be a publishing series." - According to Russian publishing and bibliographic standards (inherited from the Soviet ones), the publishing series is indicated on the copyrigth page  of the book in parentheses. So publisher did it.
 +
 +
:"> but this is the title series in Russian - we will have thousands of those" - Yes, unfortunately, the publisher has created and continues to create many publishing series and sub-series for any reason and without any reason at all. :( For example, [https://eksmo.ru/series/search/?q=Young+Adult here] you can see Eksmo's subseries from the umbrella publishing series 'Young Adult'.
 +
 +
:"> What do you think?" - If this is a problem for ISFDB, you can leave a single united series 'Young Adult' for all those title's and name's micro-subseries. Fanlab takes into account all the series as they are announced by the publisher, see the [https://fantlab.ru/publisher324 terribly long list] in the section "Участвует в сериях" (means "Participates in series").

:: Yeah, we have a similar issue with the Bulgarian books (and a lot of the other ex-Eastern Block ones). I am not sure which publishers annoy me more - the ones that follow the  bibliographic standards or the ones that do not :) And as there is no visible place for the series in that language, it gets complicated. Matching different standards to match each other is so much fun (not). :)
 +
:: One thing I always add to Russian/Bulgarian books is the format -- while US/UK publishing has a few formats only, the Eastern world has a very well defined format map so I am trying to preserve that (just in case one day we can move them to their own field) :)
 +
:: It is not a problem per se but it clutters the page and if we ever have a "Series in book language" solution, it will have that name there anyway. Let me think on that some more - I kinda favor the idea of a single "Young Adult" pub series but will think some more.
 +
:: Fantlab has their way and their UI is built to allow that easily. Ours is already cluttered when you have a few dozen series - look at Eksmo's record here... On the other hand, UIs can be changed so let it stay this way for now and let me think a bit more... Hope that all makes (some) sense.
 +
:: PS: I speak Russian (well, I understand it more than speak it these days but I am comfortable reading it). Thanks for translating the section name though - always useful if I did not speak the language. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 14:58, 26 May 2020 (EDT)

 +
:: On a separate note - do you plan to add the rest of the books in the series? If not, I can add them later this week :)14:58, 26 May 2020 (EDT)
 +
 +
:::"> do you plan to add the rest of the books in the series?" - At first I planned. But, probably, it will be a double job: I offer submissions, you correct and do everything right way. :) So it’s easier to skip the intermediate stage. You can use these sources: 1) publishing [https://eksmo.ru/series/young-adult-rozhdennaya-stikhiyami-ITD6159/ series page] on Eksmo's website; 2) publishing [https://fantlab.ru/series8838 series page on Fantlab] or/and [https://fantlab.ru/work808628 author's series on Fantlab] (cycle of works).
 +
:::: It is a good practice though - the more you edit, the more independent you get, the less work for the moderator and sooner or later they ask you to become a moderator and then you can self-approve. Saves a lot of time. :) But no worries. [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] 02:52, 27 May 2020 (EDT)

* In cases where the author is misnamed in the books, we record what the book shows and then variant. I've done that now here. PS: You misnamed her as well the new interior art you had used Scutti and not Sciutti. All sorted out. :)

* The piped numbers take fractions - so instead of renumbering everything, you could have used |0.1 with the same effect. :)

When adding prices, we want the list price, not what Amazon happens to be selling the book for at that day (if possible - if not, we document what a retailer says and add a note on the source). In Amazon UK, look for "RRP". In [https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?916129 this case], Amazon UK shows £19.36 as a price on top and that value is going to change depending on when you look and where you are and so on but under it, there is the "RRP: £22.00" (with the Save value under it). When updating the Russian authors, there is one more small step to be done - the Directory entry needs to use Latin letters. By default it takes the last name of the name of the author so for Валерий Макаров it becomes Макаров automatically. So when editing to add the language and other details, change that to Makarov (in this case). That way the author will show up in the [https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?author Author Directory] (among other things). I fixed the two you added details to today. Thanks! == Images naming ==

When there is more than one interior art piece in the same book by the same artist with the same title,  we need to disambiguate the second one with [2]. Take [https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?921673 this one] for example - the rest of the images are in the clear because they have different artists but you have 2 maps from the same artists with the title of the record being exactly the same. So the second one gets the [2]. On a separate note - if these two are the same map, the two records can be varianted (we cannot have the same title twice in a book so we variant). Let me know if you have any questions. [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] ([[User talk:Anniemod|talk]]) 12:57, 10 November 2022 (EST)

In cases like [https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?354130 Дмитрий Тимохин], it may be better to just leave the Legal Name empty. We really do not know if this is his legal name (and even if it is it, it is incomplete and does not any new information we do not have from the name itself). Thanks! : On a separate note - as you are mostly working on Russian authors, a small tip: you may want to change your default language to Russian [https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/mypreferences.cgi here]. It won't change the UI but it will change the language selected by default when you edit/add a book (or an author). You set [https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?354135 Юлия Энина] to English by mistake (fixed now) so I suspect your default is set to English. You can also always change the language to a different one if you are working on a batch of authors/books in that language - I sometimes do when I am working on a batch of books in the same language. :) [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] ([[User talk:Anniemod|talk]]) 11:22, 14 November 2022 (EST)

::: Anytime. This one is a bit hidden if you do not know it is there -- and it is very useful when you are working on a long list of books in a language (wrong author or title language is easily reset until you add an anthology of 50 stories in the wrong language... :). So I tend to point it out to the editors when it seems like they may not be aware of it).
 +
::: One more note while I am here: author records such as [https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?354134 https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?354134 Сара Джин Горвиц] need a transliteration, directory name change and a language (matching their original name language). I did that once I approved the alternate name connection but heads up for the future. [[User:Anniemod|Annie]] ([[User talk:Anniemod|talk]]) 12:06, 14 November 2022 (EST)

Revision as of 13:06, 14 November 2022

Welcome!

Hello, Zlogorek, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins|talk 14:13, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Linking uploaded images to the database record

Thanks for uploading cover images to the ISFDB wiki. The next step is to link those images to the records of the books for which these are the covers. As the instructions (step 6) explain:

Once the file has been uploaded, the image's wiki page will appear. In order to get the URL (address) for the image you just uploaded, left click anywhere on the image and copy the URL from your browser's address window. (Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".) If you're adding a cover image to a pub record, this is the URL which you would enter into the pub record's "Image URL" field.

So once you have the image's URL, go back to the pub record (it's linked on the image's wiki page) and then click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu. This opens up an edit page. Under the Publication Metadata section, there's a field labeled "Image URL:" Enter the URL of the image you uploaded into this field, and then click on the "Submit Data" button at the bottom of the page. Once the submission has been moderated the cover image will be linked to the publication record. Thanks for contributing.

I have linked this image (which I cropped and resized to get below the 150 KB limit standard) to this publication record for you. Mhhutchins|talk 14:13, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Der Drache aus dem blauen Ei

Thanks for adding this publication! I have changed the publisher to just 'Ravensburger', which is the canonical name we already had established with other publications and deleted the obsolete ISBN: please enter only one ISBN (after somewhen in the years 2006/2007 only the 13-digit ISBN is valid, and before only the 10-digit one). But thanks again, Stonecreek 07:32, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Non-genre magazines

Because this is a database of speculative fiction, we only enter the spec-fic titles published in non-genre magazines. Please read this help page about the policy and entry standards. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 06:42, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Galaxy, #8

Hello, I've approved your submission for this pub. Please remember that ISFDB etiquette requires you to notify the PVs (primary verifiers listed on the publication page) of the changes you intend to make (the level of notification may depend on their stated preferences). I've done this for you here. Hauck 10:24, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Image file upload limit

The ISFDB standard is that no image will be more than 600 pixels tall. So I have resized this file down from 700 pixels. Keep this in mind for future uploads. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 16:01, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

You also haven't linked the file to the publication record. I'll do that for you. This isn't done automatically and requires the uploader to edit the publication record and add the URL of the image in the proper field. (See the previous message about linking files to records.) I might also point out that there was already a pretty good image of that issue linked to the record. Unless you're replacing a bad cover with a better one, it's best to not go through the effort of scanning, uploading, and linking. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins|talk 16:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for helping! Old image was from UK version of magazine, Vol 1, No 7, and not consistent with US issue, Vol 1, No 6. My image have correct "Vol 1, No 6" mark. --Zlogorek 21:45, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Joy Ang covers

Hello, I've put your submissions on hold because you didn't give the source of the credits. Can you be more precise? Note that when crediting a cover it's best to put the source in the notes. Thanks. Hauck 15:20, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Joy Ang is official illustrator of whole "Wings of Fire" series publushed by Scholastic. See e.g. http://wingsoffire.wikia.com/wiki/Joy_Ang Also omnibus Wings of Fire has reptinted images of covers all five books on box, credited by Joy Ang. Thank you! --Zlogorek 21:34, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
I've approved your submissions and added the source of the data.Hauck 12:27, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Uploading images

Hello, please use the "upload cover scan" at publication level link in order to upload images and not the "upload file" link at wiki level. This will add all the correct metadata to the image and give it a standardized name. See above for the same remark. Thanks. Hauck 06:29, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Artist credits

Hi. When you add information, such as an artist credit, to an entry that is constructed from secondary information sources (e.g., one of Fixer's data-from-Amazon entries, or something constructed from Locus or WorldCat or other such), and the cited secondary sources do not reflect the information you're adding, be sure to add that information's source to the publication notes as well. Or, if you have the book, remove the references to the secondary sources (or make them more specific, reflecting them as source only for information not present in the book), and do a Primary Verification so that we know the information came from the publication itself. For the Gustavo Marx credits on the various instances of The Selection, I was able to find a credit on the paperback's back cover on Amazon, plus his own taking credit for the cover in an interview. So I accepted your submissions and will adjust the notes to reflect that. If you actually have the book, please adjust further. Thanks! --MartyD 13:04, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

OK, MartyD, I realized my mistake, sorry for the inconvenience. Information source about cover artis is ISFDB site. I just compare http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/titlecovers.cgi?1389118 and verified http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?516961 - all the books have the same cover by Gustavo Marx. Thanks a lot for the help, patience and explanations! --Zlogorek 15:37, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Same remark for your recent submissions (e.g. for Fahrt ohne Ende), please update the note field of the publication with your sources and not the "Note to moderator" field, data entered there disappear when the submission is approved. Hauck 11:02, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

Books you own and Primary Verification

Hi. If you have Hell's Heroes, please consider making yourself primary verifier. Follow the link and choose "Verify This Pub" from the menu at the left. Then click on the button under Verified in the Primary row (for other publications, if Primary is already taken, use one of the other Primary2 - Primary5). If it is a book you have now but will not keep, use "Primary (Transient)" instead. This tells us that a person looked at a copy of the book and also tells us whom we can ask if questions arise about any of the details.

If you do verify a publication, you should also adjust any note that looks like "Data from <secondary source>". If everything in the record is available from the book itself, delete that note entirely. If something in the record is not available in the book, make the note more specific. For example, "No price on book. Price from Amazon.com as of 2016-04-25.".

I am only suggesting this because the detailed notes you provided make it sound like you do have the book. :-) Thanks! --MartyD 11:31, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Author photographs

No file should be uploaded to the ISFDB server without a proper license. These "tags" protect us against claims of copyright infringement. Even if a work is in the public domain, we must tag it with the proper license. Do you know if this photograph or this one are in the public domain or still under copyright protection? If you can provide me with the source of the images I can add the proper license to the files. Otherwise they may have to be deleted from the server. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 17:55, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Manfred Schneider's photo was taken from his autobiographical article in EXODUS magazine. Page have mark "Copyright © 2016 EXODUS - »Magazin für Science Fiction Stories & phantastische Grafik«. Alle Rechte vorbehalten." on bottom. I can ask them about image licensing via contact form.
Also Karl Stephan's portrait I found in article about artist from Internet-magazine Zauberspiegel Online. Web-page hasn't any words about copyright. --Zlogorek 18:34, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
I've added a license to Stephan's photograph. Please contact Exodus and ask for permission to host the photograph of Manfred Schneider. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 19:16, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

The Third Bumper Book of Ghost Stories

Hello, I've approved your submission for this pub, but please indicate in the notes where the artist credit comes from. Thanks. Hauck 10:27, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Masterful Tales of Fantasy

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. Our etiquette requires you to clear the matter of your proposed modifications with the primary verifier. Thanks. Hauck 09:01, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

OK, I wrote to verifier. Is it correct? --Zlogorek 13:12, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
Great, I've approved the submission. All this may seems unduly complicated but it makes sure that both parties are speaking of the same book. Hauck 15:06, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

Alphabet Anthologies

Hello, I've approved your submissions but wondered if you intend to enter the rest of the stories in the future (there's only the first ones). Is it the case? Note that, as per dimensions given by amazon, the books are tps. Hauck 09:15, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

I've rejected the last one, 2017 is way to far in the future for us to include this book (we usually set the limit at 90 days). Hauck 09:18, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
Something happened to your recent submission, and I don't know what (or better why): see here. After 'R' the rest was cut off, even the author wasn't indexed (which shouldn't possible at all). Sorry for that, but I didn't do anything than approving it. Stonecreek 09:26, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
Also, there do exist one Michael Kella and one Michael Kellar, both featured in the alpahabet anthologies. Are they one and the same? Stonecreek 09:28, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
Oh, correct author is Michael Kellar, please delete Michael Kella (or merge with Michael Kellar without keeping pseudonim; they are the same sure). And I can repeat adding rest of shortstories after 'R', no problem. --Zlogorek 09:40, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Similar titles

Hello, in this pub there are two stories that are titled M, perhaps one of them should be N. Thanks for having a look. Hauck 16:33, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Oh, my misprinting. Thanks, I fixed title to "N". --Zlogorek 16:37, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Bobby Nash

I have cancelled your submission by mistake, and redid it. Sorry about that ! Linguist 15:55, 11 August 2016 (UTC).

Kanaxa

Hello, I've accepted your creation of a pseudonym. You'll now have to variant all the titles by Kanaxa to Nathalie Gray and transform the link to "Kanaxa Design". Hauck 10:57, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Ivica Stevanovic

Hi, as Ivica Stevanovic was born in 1977 I've added 'Republic of Yugoslavia' to 'Niš, Serbia'. We record the place of birth as it was at the time of birth. In 1977 there still was the Republic of Yugoslavia.--Dirk P Broer 11:48, 30 December 2017 (EST)

Escape!

Hello,

What is the source of the change in pages in this one from 83 to 96? Keep in mind that we do not count the empty pages at the end of a book and both OCLC and National Library of Australia agree on it being 83 pages. The rules for page numbers are here. Do you own the book? Can you describe what is on the pages beyond 83? I temporary restored it to 83 but will be happy to change it back if it proved to be 96 (which sounds like the usual Amazon number which counts all pages in the book). Thanks! Annie 15:28, 24 July 2018 (EDT)

Yes, I get 96 pages fom Amazon. I mixed up page count principle with FantLab's, wehere required full quantity of pages including any additional, technical and empty. Please leave 83. Thank you and sorry for disadvantage. --Zlogorek 18:00, 24 July 2018 (EDT)
No worries at all :) I assumed that something like that happened so came to ask :) And yes - FantLab uses the complete number of page, not just the printed ones. Thanks for the confirmation! Annie 19:09, 24 July 2018 (EDT)

Translations

Just a note - when you add a translator, we have a template for that (to be used in any Notes field): {{Tr|name}} which gets resolved as "Translated by name". More details here. This will help when we figure out how to connect the translators to the authors one day :) Thanks in advance! Annie 14:20, 8 July 2019 (EDT)

Thank you, Annie! --Zlogorek 02:37, 9 July 2019 (EDT)

HTML in notes

Thanks! Annie 13:25, 24 July 2019 (EDT)

I get it, Annie. Thanks for the note --Zlogorek 01:53, 25 July 2019 (EDT)

Isadora Moon Goes on a Field Trip

You tried to variant the novel into a coverart here. Based on the message, I changed the variants so it should be fine now. Let me know if anything else is needed. Annie 03:33, 7 September 2019 (EDT)

Sorry for mess. :( You did everything right, thanks! --Zlogorek 04:06, 7 September 2019 (EDT)
No need to apologize - It happens to everyone. :) Writing the moderator notes help when that happens. :) Annie 04:11, 7 September 2019 (EDT)

Stay a Spell

Thanks for the update regarding the author here. Mistakes do happen - someone did not check and automatically varianted because the pseudonym had another parent already. I've added a note to warn people that it is used by multiple people. Please note that when that happens we also need to make the pseudonym an alternative name for the actual writer. I did it here Annie 18:33, 8 October 2019 (EDT)

Екатерина Ферез

Thanks for catching the slip in the notes of КайноZой. I thought I fixed it and apparently forgot. Now if I remember why I added (or left one that I found) a cover from her on Кваzи but decided not to do it here when the notes should have been the same... Annie 19:09, 18 November 2019 (EST)

The United Kingdom

Hello,

When the birth country is "The United Kingdom" for an author, we go by UK. See this for some more examples around UK :) Annie 12:30, 27 February 2020 (EST)

Кристальная корона

Hello,

All variants and so on are done - the result is here. I changed the publisher to "Freedom / Эксмо" though - the title page of the book visible an Eksmo's site shows the imprint clearly and we try to follow that (when available).

I am not sure that "Young Adult. Рожденная стихиями" should be a publishing series. Yes, I know that both Eksmo and Fantlab have it and I can see on the copyright page of the book but this is the title series in Russian - we will have thousands of those which will make them almost useless. What do you think?

I added the Russian spelling of the series here for now - one day we may do something with those, for now we just store them there. :) Annie 12:49, 26 May 2020 (EDT)

Hi Annie! Thanks for approving my submission.
"> I am not sure that "Young Adult. Рожденная стихиями" should be a publishing series." - According to Russian publishing and bibliographic standards (inherited from the Soviet ones), the publishing series is indicated on the copyrigth page of the book in parentheses. So publisher did it.
"> but this is the title series in Russian - we will have thousands of those" - Yes, unfortunately, the publisher has created and continues to create many publishing series and sub-series for any reason and without any reason at all. :( For example, here you can see Eksmo's subseries from the umbrella publishing series 'Young Adult'.
"> What do you think?" - If this is a problem for ISFDB, you can leave a single united series 'Young Adult' for all those title's and name's micro-subseries. Fanlab takes into account all the series as they are announced by the publisher, see the terribly long list in the section "Участвует в сериях" (means "Participates in series").
--Zlogorek 14:34, 26 May 2020 (EDT)
Yeah, we have a similar issue with the Bulgarian books (and a lot of the other ex-Eastern Block ones). I am not sure which publishers annoy me more - the ones that follow the bibliographic standards or the ones that do not :) And as there is no visible place for the series in that language, it gets complicated. Matching different standards to match each other is so much fun (not). :)
One thing I always add to Russian/Bulgarian books is the format -- while US/UK publishing has a few formats only, the Eastern world has a very well defined format map so I am trying to preserve that (just in case one day we can move them to their own field) :)
It is not a problem per se but it clutters the page and if we ever have a "Series in book language" solution, it will have that name there anyway. Let me think on that some more - I kinda favor the idea of a single "Young Adult" pub series but will think some more.
Fantlab has their way and their UI is built to allow that easily. Ours is already cluttered when you have a few dozen series - look at Eksmo's record here... On the other hand, UIs can be changed so let it stay this way for now and let me think a bit more... Hope that all makes (some) sense.
PS: I speak Russian (well, I understand it more than speak it these days but I am comfortable reading it). Thanks for translating the section name though - always useful if I did not speak the language. :) Annie 14:58, 26 May 2020 (EDT)
On a separate note - do you plan to add the rest of the books in the series? If not, I can add them later this week :)14:58, 26 May 2020 (EDT)
"> do you plan to add the rest of the books in the series?" - At first I planned. But, probably, it will be a double job: I offer submissions, you correct and do everything right way. :) So it’s easier to skip the intermediate stage. You can use these sources: 1) publishing series page on Eksmo's website; 2) publishing series page on Fantlab or/and author's series on Fantlab (cycle of works).
It is a good practice though - the more you edit, the more independent you get, the less work for the moderator and sooner or later they ask you to become a moderator and then you can self-approve. Saves a lot of time. :) But no worries. Annie 02:52, 27 May 2020 (EDT)
All five books published under Freedom imprint, translated by Марина Авдонина (Marina Avdonina) and all with original cover art by Merilliza Chan (credited in English). Also, since you like formats :), all book's format is 84x108/32 (130x200 mm). Publications with green stripe are verifyed by owners.
Yep, I use Fantlab extensively for Russian books so no worries. I will add them later this week when I need a break from my current tasks... Annie 02:52, 27 May 2020 (EDT)
"> PS: I speak Russian (well, I understand it more than speak it these days but I am comfortable reading it)." - Great! I wrote a message to your Fantlab account.
Ah, you found me there. See how "hidden" I was :) Annie 02:52, 27 May 2020 (EDT)
"> Fantlab has their way and their UI is built to allow that easily." Fantlab's UI also is also _much more convenient_ for private or public messages. Honestly, I really hate wiki-interface of discussion used here!
--Zlogorek 02:34, 27 May 2020 (EDT)
Discussions for books live on the pages so everyone can find them (so we do not end up with details lost in private messages). Fantlab also has curators and people responsible for pages and authors... we don't - everyone pitches in everywhere. Same as with the publishing standards - different places, different rules. :) I am used with both ways but then I use the system here a lot. :) Annie 02:52, 27 May 2020 (EDT)

Synopsis

When copying Synopsises from somewhere, they need to have their source added and if they are from an online source, a date is always a good idea. See how I fixed this one. Thanks! Annie 03:49, 30 March 2022 (EDT)

I took note. Thanks! --Zlogorek 05:07, 30 March 2022 (EDT)

Alice Unbound: Beyond Wonderland

A couple of things about this one:

  • In cases where the author is misnamed in the books, we record what the book shows and then variant. I've done that now here. PS: You misnamed her as well the new interior art you had used Scutti and not Sciutti. All sorted out. :)
  • The piped numbers take fractions - so instead of renumbering everything, you could have used |0.1 with the same effect. :)

Let me know if you have any questions! Annie (talk) 13:17, 16 September 2022 (EDT)

Hi, Annie! Thanks for approving and comments.
>"PS: You misnamed her as well "
Oh how awkward I am. :(
>"The piped numbers take fractions - so instead of renumbering everything, you could have used |0.1 with the same effect. :)"
Cool feature! Good to know. --Zlogorek (talk) 03:01, 17 September 2022 (EDT)

The Cuckoo

When adding prices, we want the list price, not what Amazon happens to be selling the book for at that day (if possible - if not, we document what a retailer says and add a note on the source). In Amazon UK, look for "RRP". In this case, Amazon UK shows £19.36 as a price on top and that value is going to change depending on when you look and where you are and so on but under it, there is the "RRP: £22.00" (with the Save value under it). I fixed it in this book. Annie (talk) 14:32, 23 September 2022 (EDT)

Thanks, Annie. And sorry for having to fix after me. --Zlogorek (talk) 01:39, 24 September 2022 (EDT)
No worries. Amazon tends to move things around and some things are in different places on the different versions so sometimes it is hard to find these :) Annie (talk) 19:59, 26 September 2022 (EDT)

Russian authors

When updating the Russian authors, there is one more small step to be done - the Directory entry needs to use Latin letters. By default it takes the last name of the name of the author so for Валерий Макаров it becomes Макаров automatically. So when editing to add the language and other details, change that to Makarov (in this case). That way the author will show up in the Author Directory (among other things). I fixed the two you added details to today. Thanks! Annie (talk) 12:20, 10 November 2022 (EST)

Okay, understood. I will do this step. Thanks for your patience and teaching, Annie! --Zlogorek (talk) 12:47, 10 November 2022 (EST)

Images naming

When there is more than one interior art piece in the same book by the same artist with the same title, we need to disambiguate the second one with [2]. Take this one for example - the rest of the images are in the clear because they have different artists but you have 2 maps from the same artists with the title of the record being exactly the same. So the second one gets the [2]. On a separate note - if these two are the same map, the two records can be varianted (we cannot have the same title twice in a book so we variant). Let me know if you have any questions. Annie (talk) 12:57, 10 November 2022 (EST)

This is the same map on both endpapers, front and end. So records should be varianted.

> (we cannot have the same title twice in a book)

At first I was going to send submission for a variant, but it confused me, I did not know how to do it right. --Zlogorek (talk) 13:37, 10 November 2022 (EST)
Variant is the way to go. I was just explaining that even though it is the same map, we cannot merge the titles and need to go the [2] in the title + variant route. Sorry for the confusion. Annie (talk) 13:46, 10 November 2022 (EST)

Legal names

In cases like Дмитрий Тимохин, it may be better to just leave the Legal Name empty. We really do not know if this is his legal name (and even if it is it, it is incomplete and does not any new information we do not have from the name itself). Thanks! Annie (talk) 11:15, 14 November 2022 (EST)

On a separate note - as you are mostly working on Russian authors, a small tip: you may want to change your default language to Russian here. It won't change the UI but it will change the language selected by default when you edit/add a book (or an author). You set Юлия Энина to English by mistake (fixed now) so I suspect your default is set to English. You can also always change the language to a different one if you are working on a batch of authors/books in that language - I sometimes do when I am working on a batch of books in the same language. :) Annie (talk) 11:22, 14 November 2022 (EST)
You are right, it's English. Thanks again for useful tips, Annie! --Zlogorek (talk) 11:42, 14 November 2022 (EST)
Anytime. This one is a bit hidden if you do not know it is there -- and it is very useful when you are working on a long list of books in a language (wrong author or title language is easily reset until you add an anthology of 50 stories in the wrong language... :). So I tend to point it out to the editors when it seems like they may not be aware of it).
One more note while I am here: author records such as https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?354134 Сара Джин Горвиц need a transliteration, directory name change and a language (matching their original name language). I did that once I approved the alternate name connection but heads up for the future. Annie (talk) 12:06, 14 November 2022 (EST)
