Welcome!

Hello, XtinaS, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 09:20, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Best SF

I'm removing the link that was given in this record to the cover image file on another website. Because these are "deep links" (they draw bandwidth from the hosting server and not the ISFDB) we must have explicit permission from the hosting server in order to link to their image files. Unfortunately, we don't have permission from Library Thing. Here is a list of websites which have given us permission to link to their images. Thanks for contributing. Sorry, at accepting it I really thought the image was scanned by the user (guess I had my mind occupied with a problem) - will do better in the future. Stonecreek 07:35, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Ah, apologies! I will learn to read first before adding new stuff to the DB. :) XtinaS 13:56, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Primary verification of records

If you're doing a primary verification of the record (you have the actual book), you should remove any note about the source of the data, unless the data in the record isn't verified by internal facts. For example, this book has a note saying the data is from Amazon. To do a primary verification means that you've checked each of the record's fields and can confirm that the data is present in the book itself. But let's say that the actual publication date of February 28 2012 isn't stated in the book (which it likely isn't), you should note that. This help page should provide further information on verifying records. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask here. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 17:21, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Ah, okay. Thank you! XtinaS 15:18, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Devil in a Dollhouse

Submission adding this record was accepted, but several changes were made for it to comply with ISFDB standards. Those are provided in the help pages linked in the Welcome section above.

  • Author field was changed from "Richard Cadrey" to "Richard Kadrey"
  • Page count field was blanked. Kindle ebooks (and other formats) don't have "pages" so the field is left empty. Only enter pages for print books or PDF ebooks.
  • Link to the cover image file on an unauthorized website has been changed to one on Amazon.
  • Content: All CHAPTERBOOK records require a content record, usually of the SHORTFICTION type. I've added one to the record. It's that record which is entered into the series, in this case Sandman. I've done that as well.

Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 04:08, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Gah, yes, spelling. SPELLING. I caught the C/K error right as I hit submit. *wince* Also, thank you for the help re the chapterbook-type! XtinaS 13:46, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

"The Best of Isaac Asimov"

I know the image isn't linkable. It's also not correct. I'm in the process of taking a relatively decent photo now. Where should I put it such that it's useful to this site? Thanks!

Please use the 'Upload new cover scan' clickable button directly below the bibliographic basic data. The URL than has to be copied into the publication's entry. (If you run into problems, it's better to ask at the help desk). Thanks, Stonecreek 13:30, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
