Best SF

I'm removing the link that was given in this record to the cover image file on another website. Because these are "deep links" (they draw bandwidth from the hosting server and not the ISFDB) we must have explicit permission from the hosting server in order to link to their image files. Unfortunately, we don't have permission from Library Thing. Here is a list of websites which have given us permission to link to their images. Thanks for contributing. Primary verification of records

If you're doing a primary verification of the record (you have the actual book), you should remove any note about the source of the data, unless the data in the record isn't verified by internal facts. For example, this book has a note saying the data is from Amazon. To do a primary verification means that you've checked each of the record's fields and can confirm that the data is present in the book itself. But let's say that the actual publication date of February 28 2012 isn't stated in the book (which it likely isn't), you should note that. Devil in a Dollhouse

Submission adding this record was accepted, but several changes were made for it to comply with ISFDB standards. Those are provided in the help pages linked in the Welcome section above.

• Author field was changed from "Richard Cadrey" to "Richard Kadrey"
• Page count field was blanked. Kindle ebooks (and other formats) don't have "pages" so the field is left empty. Only enter pages for print books or PDF ebooks.
• Link to the cover image file on an unauthorized website has been changed to one on Amazon.
• Content: All CHAPTERBOOK records require a content record, usually of the SHORTFICTION type. I've added one to the record. It's that record which is entered into the series, in this case Sandman. I've done that as well.

"The Best of Isaac Asimov"

I know the image isn't linkable. It's also not correct. I'm in the process of taking a relatively decent photo now. Where should I put it such that it's useful to this site? Thanks!

I had to reject your submission to add a new record for this title for several reasons. First, you gave the publisher as Doubleday, when it is actually "Fawcett Crest / Ballantine". What is given as the publisher on your copy's title page? Second, you added a link to an image file on a website which hasn't given us permission to link to their files. Last, and more importantly, you used the "Add New Collection" function. The title already exists in the database, see here, and there is a record for an earlier printing of this collection, see here. In cases like this you can save much work (for both you and the moderator) to use the "Clone" function which copies one record but allows you to make changes based on the printing for which you're creating a new record. That way you didn't have to go to the trouble of entering all of the individual content titles, and neither you (or another editor), nor the moderator have to merge all of these newly created title records for the records of the stories already in the database.

So I rejected your submission and created a new record based on it. Please look over this record and make any changes that don't match your copy, using the "Edit This Pub" function under the Editing Tools menu. It might also be good to add any printing data to the Note field, if the printing number is indicated on the book's copyright page. Once it matches your copy, do a primary verification of the record (help page linked in the Welcome section above). If you have a scan of your printing, use the "Upload cover scan" link in the metadata section of the record and follow the directions that appear at each step. Thanks for contributing. Generic Titles

For generic titles like Introduction, Foreword, and Preface, we disambiguate the title with the name of the publication. So in The Best of Richard Matheson, I changed the introduction to "Introduction (The Best of Richard Matheson)". Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:56, 4 September 2017 (EDT)

Pseudonyms

First - thanks for submitting the pseudonyms and adding the note about why they are pseudonyms. This note is just a reminder than when you pseudonym authors, all the titles that are under the pseudonym, need to be varianted under the main author. I've done this for the ones I moderated but you may want to submit these variants next time as well :) Annie 20:57, 24 April 2018 (EDT)

I can't edit a submission, alas. I know the image isn't linkable; it can be removed. I didn't know that if I didn't fill out a field, the form assumed I wanted the field blanked out. D:
