(done) old note to self

to Hauck I added that "The Protectors of Zendor" by John Morressy in the above issue is a Kedrigern series story. (links to isfdb hopefully helpful.)

However, I failed to put any note to the moderators on my submission - I'm new here. Is it possible for you to check your copy of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, June 2006 for verification? The Kedrigern character name appeared in the first paragraph. I can see you do *tons* of work with your collection, so please accept my apologies for asking.

First submission

That change you mention above was fine. I found some secondary sources corroborating it. Best of all (from a moderator's point of view) is that your inclination to check with/notify the verifier is spot on! That's usually something we have to encourage people to do. We communicate to others by leaving notes on their "talk" pages -- the "discussion" tab when you go to their user page. I've pointed Hauck here to your note to yourself. The hard rejects

There was nothing wrong with the updates but I approved your other submission first and then merged all titles where they belonged - which left the other two not viable - the title they contained does not exist after the merge. Tried to add translators to http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?789013 and I guess it went REALLY badly when it showed the "proposed changes" and "warning" page. Seems to be a problem with polish letters? Hopefully. ~me

Nowa Fantastyka 9 (96) 1990

New publication

Okay I found The Curse ("Klątwa" translated by Sławomir Kędzierski) by William King (the old one, not the new one.) They had it in the Polish list three ways. The English name of the story is Wolf Riders http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?1125629

Additional note: Kwestia Ceny in this 1990 publication is a new entry for the existing Kwestia Ceny (erroneously dated 1993!) http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?1536115
And it's actually the reason for posting this whole magazine. I KNEW some of The Witcher short stories had been previously published in magazines before the currently listed collections were published. I have two more but wanted to see how this went, first. And the absolute FIRST Witcher collection in Poland was in 1990; see below. Tkech 20:48, 2 September 2022 (EDT)

A few useful tips when working on translations and short fiction.
  • If the record already exists but you added instead of importing, you need to merge. If it is an exact match, the Find Duplicates on the left menu of any publication will find it. For example for "Nowa Fantastyka 9 (96) 1990", it gets you this. Select, pick the correct values where they are different (date for example) and submit. On approval, they will get merged. If the duplicate finder cannot find them because they are slightly different:
  • If one of them is simply wrong, you can get to the merge screen via the author page (look at the left menu, there is a duplicate finder there and it can be tweaked to find "similar" titles) or via Advanced search
  • If it is the same story but there is a difference in the title, author name or language, it is a variant.
  • For variants: open the title you want to variant (the translation or the new name). In a separate tab (or before that), locate the original and get the ID of the original title from the top right corner. Now in the translation record, look at the left menu again and locate "Make This Title a Variant". Click on it. You want Option 1 inside of it. Use the ID you collected. The stories are now connected :)
    • If the original does not exist yet, you use the same page, just Option 2. The help page for the two options of varianting is her.

Nowa Fantastyka 3 (90) 1990

from me: cover artist Chris Moore (name conflict Eddie Jones) looks like could be either one. The source website (baza.fantasyka.pl) is no help. Neither one has worked on Polish publications, both have worked on German publications, and I'm sure that's meaningless anyway. Tkech (talk)
