"Revolution of 1950"

I accepted the submission adding a variant title to this title. Will you be adding a publication of the story using that title and author credit? If so, it's better to create the record by adding the publication and then making the new title record into a variant of the original title. At the moment we have a similar title record (Revolution of 1960) which is only credited to Weinbaum. Do you know if this is the same story that was credited to Farley and Weinbaum in 1938 under the title of "Revolution of 1950"? Thanks. Mhhutchins 20:21, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Your subsequent submission made it clear what you were attempting to do. Now I understand how you wanted to correct the title as it was published in this collection. You will now have to merge this new title record with the one you created in the previous submission. If you need help in how to do this, just ask here. I accepted the submission to this record that replaces "Revolution of 1950" with "Revolution of 1960". You may (or not) have noticed that the record has been primary verified by two other editors. Startling Stories, May 1940

I accepted the submission to update this pub, but saw that you'd made an error common to new editors: you overwrote a content record (for "The New Frontier") into a new title ("Meet the Author"). In this case there was no harm in doing this, but many times this might cause problems, especially if the record you're overwriting was in a series. In the future, just add a new content record, and then use the "Remove Title from This Pub" function to get rid of the old one. Thanks. Mhhutchins 04:26, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

One other thing I forgot to add: column titles should be disambiguated by adding parenthetically the title of the issue. For example: "The Ether Vibrates", a regular column, should be titled "The Ether Vibrates (Startling Stories, May 1940)". That way there's not duplicate titles on Weisinger's author page which might mistakenly be merged. (I think "Thrills in Science" was also a regular column.) Thanks. Hello, Thomas. I put your submission on hold, because I don't understand the motivation behind your request of change. We only do add a sort of commentary in brackets if there is another work by the same author with the exact (or nearly exact) same title. It's quite often used with for example essay series, but to me this doesn't seem to be the case here. Stonecreek 09:13, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Unknown, June 1941

I've made some changes in your verified record of this issue.

  • In the header info, I added the publisher and binding, and changed the page count to 164 (we count covers in magazine).
  • Added the additional interior art pieces for each story. This isn't mandatory in order to verify a record, but it's useful to some db users.
  • Changed the name of the story "Shape of Things" (contents page title) to "The Shape of Things" (title page title) per ISFDB standards.
  • Changed the author credit for "And Having Writ" from "uncredited" to "various". This is the standard for letter columns that credit several letter writers. If one of the letters is from a well-known person, you can create a separate record, using the form "Letter (Title of Magazine)".

Removing the white frame around Amazon images

I approved the submission adding this record, but you'll notice a white frame to the left and right of the image. This is easily removed: Copy the original URL http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51p1uG1G%2B4L._SL500_AA300_.jpg and remove all characters between the last dot (.) and the previous one, leaving one dot before the file extension. In this case you'd enter the URL as http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51p1uG1G%2B4L.jpg. Look at the difference between the two images: here and here. Pretty neat trick, don't you think. You added a record to this pub for a piece titled "Wanted--More Plots". Does the actual title use two dashes? Or is it a single long dash (an emdash) like this one: — ? Thrilling Wonder Stories, June 1939

There is an essay titled "As Williamson Sees Himself", reprinted in The Crucible of Power that states that it was originally printed in the June 1939 issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories. You don't have this essay listed. Could you double check if the essay appears in the magazine. I would guess that it may be introductory material for Williamson's story in that issue, but that's pure speculation. It's also possible that it may be under a different title or even untitled. Amazing Stories Verifications

You have verified Amazing Stories Quarterly, Fall 1929 and Wonder Stories Quarterly, Fall 1932. A prior editor had added the contents based on reference sources (Bleiler/Gernsback & Miller/Contento) and included notes stating such. As the verification is to show that the information matches the publication, these notes are no longer needed. I have removed the notes stating the source is an external reference. "Untitled"

You entered several content records in this publication record, giving "Untitled" as the title of the work. It is ISFDB policy to title an INTERIORART record for the work which it illustrates. If the work doesn't illustrate a specific work (whether it's fiction, poetry or essay), the it is given the title of the container publication, i.e. the name of the ANTHOLOGY, COLLECTION, or MAGAZINE. The second of such work in a given publication by the same artist is disambiguated by adding the bracketed number [2] to the title, and each additional such work is given the next number. For Fantastic Adventures, September 1939 I'd like to: 1) Change uncredited artist to Jay Jackson pg. 6 for "Horror Out of Carthage".
