Welcome!

Hello, Steve R., and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! BLongley 19:16, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Stephen A. Rynas

What is the source for the biographical information that was provided for this author? Even though this was the author's real name, his canonical name is Stephen Arr, as this was the name he used for all of this fiction. We currently show his birthdate as October 31, 1922, and that he was born in Poland. Thanks. Mhhutchins 03:19, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Stephen F. Rynas

I am his son, have his birth certificate (which ironically only identifies a male child) plus some other documents. No death certificate as of yet. He was baptized on November 11, 1921 at the Misericorida Hospital in New York, it is no longer at 531 East 86th Street, New York. He was born in New york City, NY. His mother was from Poland.

Thanks for moving the entry. Still in learning mode. Since my father and I share the same name, can his wiki page be changed to Stephen A. Rynas?

Stephen A. Rynas Birth Certificate

OK. Figured it out. Here it is. I can also upload the Baptism Certificate, if you would like. Steve R. 01:45, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the additional data. There's no need for further verification, because I've given you as the source for the data. We don't usually go to such an extent as the evidence you've given. I personally feel uncomfortable with the server having such personal information, so I'm going to delete the scan of the birth certificate, although I appreciate the effort you've made here.
About your question concerning the wiki page for your father. Authors may have both a Bio page (for biographical information) and an Author page (for bibliographical information and discussion). As an editor, you also have a User page, which is not the same as the Bio and Author pages. So there should be no conflict between any of them. Your use of "Steve R." as a User name is sufficient to keep things separate. If you have published work in the SF field using a name identical to that of another author, we would disambiguate the names with each having their own database Summary page, and wiki Bio and Author pages.
We can't have a wiki Bio page for "Stephen F. Rynas" because currently we have no publication in the database attributed to that name. We've made Stephen Arr the canonical name because that is the name under which his works were published when he was active in the field. There is one record of a story having been published as by Stephen Rynas in the database, so we've made that name into a pseudonym. Strange as it may sound, the real name is considered a pseudonym when the more popular name is made the canonical one. Many famous authors are treated the same. Among them are Hal Clement, real name Harry Stubbs, Cordwainer Smith is Paul Linebarger, and William Tenn is Philip Klass. In these cases, just like your father's, the pseudonym has been made into the canonical name, and the real name has been made into a pseudonym. Hope this makes sense. If you have any specific questions concerning your father's database entry, please don't hesitate to ask here. Or at the Help Desk. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 02:26, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
One other point to clear up: is your father's name "Stephen F. Rynas" or "Stephen A. Rynas"? I'm a little confused. Mhhutchins 02:26, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
I just read the email you sent to my personal mailbox, so I understand your father's name was "Stephen Alexander Rynas", so I've corrected the author data for Stephen Arr. Thanks. Mhhutchins 02:29, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Thank You
