Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

Linking uploaded cover images to publication records

Thanks for uploading cover images to the ISFDB wiki. The next step is to link those images to the records of the books for which these are the covers. As the instructions (step 6) explain:

Once the file has been uploaded, the image's wiki page will appear. In order to get the URL (address) for the image you just uploaded, left click anywhere on the image and copy the URL from your browser's address window. (Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".) If you're adding a cover image to a pub record, this is the URL which you would enter into the pub record's "Image URL" field.

So once you have the image's URL, go back to the pub record (it's linked on the image's wiki page) and then click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu. This opens up an edit page. Under the Publication Metadata section, there's a field labeled "Image URL:" Enter the URL of the image you uploaded into this field, and then click on the "Submit Data" button at the bottom of the page. Once the submission has been moderated the cover image will be linked to the publication record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 02:24, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Improper file upload

This file was improperly uploaded to the ISFDB server. Please go to the publication record and click on the link "Upload cover scan" and follow the procedure. The image will have to be first reduced to no more than 600 pixels tall. After it is uploaded, go back to the record, choose "Edit This Pub" and enter the URL of the image in the "Image URL" field. Once you've done that look at the wiki pages of both image files to understand why the file should be uploaded from the database, and not from the wiki. Unreasonable Facsimile

Hello, a first point: please do not use a bogus submission to ask a question, post it directly of the specific pages of the wiki. For the core of your remark, what you mean is not particularly clear. We have a record for Unreasonable Facsimile and another for Imitation of Death that are in no way linked. Do you mean that the short story titled Unreasonable Facsimile in the diverse versions of Early Del Rey is in fact Imitation of Death under a new title? Thanks. Hauck 06:03, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

I checked on my shelves and I can confirm that it's the case for the occurence of Unreasonable Facsimile whose texts matches the occurence of Imitation of Death. Hauck 06:12, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for sending me a message on my talk page. If you decide to contribute (please do !:)), here are a couple of conventions to follow that may make life easier:

• If you get a message, do not reply on the user's talk page; rather, use the edit button at the far right of this (and any other) message to reply to it. Use one or more colons ':' to indent your message to make it easier to follow responses.
• If you need help (of any kind), go to the Community Portal, or, if you'd need to reach out to any moderator, go to the Moderator noticeboard (or go to their talk page) and ask any question you want answered.
• Do not hesitate to submit updates - do give it a try. We moderators will review your submissions, and, if there's something not quite right, we'll contact you by leaving a message on your talk page to discuss - you will know you'll have received a new message if you have the yellow banner at the top of the ISFDB home page.
  • Note that editing the ISFDB may take some time to learn, but you'll learn quickest if you just give it a try - no reason to be afraid of doing something wrong - you can't :)
• And last but not least, one important rule to never forget: always add the source of the data you are adding/modifying - this can either be a secondary source, or a book you own.
  • Add the source in the Pub Note field - any additional clarification can go into the Note to Moderator field
  • If you want to significantly update a primary verified publication record, contact the active primary verifier(s) on their talk page first to propose your update, and ask them if they agree - reason for small changes can be documented in the Note to Moderator field only (for example: adding OCLC reference, or, updating cover scan with better-resolution picture, or similar)
  • If you have the book in hand - primary verify it - PV-ing signifies that you attest to the veracity of the data you are entering, and lets the approving moderator know that the data is coming from the book itself.
  • If you don't have the book in hand - always provide the secondary source. For example: 'Data from Amazon.com as of yyyy-mm-dd', or, 'Data from pictures of copyright page found on eBay on yyyy-mm-dd'
