Welcome!

Hello, Spacecow, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Annie 15:30, 26 April 2018 (EDT)

Primary verified publications

Hello,

When changing primary verified publications, the DB etiquette asks for the other PVs to be notified. As the change you did was small and just in the notes and did not materially changed the publication, I made the notification and approved it but please contact the other verifiers before changed. Editors that do not want notifications for certain actions (notes updates for example), their talk pages will specify that. Thanks! Annie 17:42, 26 April 2018 (EDT)

Ace Fitzroy editions of Jules Verne

I've updated the Publisher Series The Fitzroy Edition of Jules Verne by amalgamating the information from the wiki page. Because this has been set up as a publisher series, the Ace editions don't quite fit, so I have taken the liberty of modifying these publications to refer to a new series The Fitzroy Edition of Jules Verne (Ace), which I will make a dependant of the original series. ../Doug H 15:37, 18 February 2020 (EST)

Conan the Usurper

Hi! It would seem that we already have your suggested addition of a publication in this list (the third one). Is there anything setting the two apart? Stonecreek 06:30, 13 March 2020 (EDT)

Hi moderator, if you are here ask me what I am doing, you have all the right to do so

I verify my owned books, if they don't exist I try to add that edition. I think i just realised I have been using the clone button as a preview button, which is why I have so many cloned book submissions of the same book. I do not dare touch other members submissions, and I have no idea how to answer people that write on my message board or how to DM/PM members here. But I do the best I can. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Spacecow (talkcontribs) .

You are doing fine. :) You answer to people here the same way you posted this message - except that you use the small Edit button on the right side of the title of the message you are responding to instead of the tabs at the top. We do not have a DM/PM system but you can leave a message on anyone's Talk page in the same way you just left this one here :) Annie 11:53, 4 September 2020 (EDT)
So if I write something here, you will get notified? How does that work? Anyone who has written something in this thread (let's say a third person had written something here as well) will get notified whenever there is an update? --Spacecow 18:35, 4 September 2020 (EDT)
I have you on my watch list. If you look at the bottom of the screen, there is a checkbox for that ("Watch this page") -- and when I post somewhere, I always leave it checked. If someone else posts and leaves it checked, they will also get the change into their watchlist. So it popups up on my Watchlist - and I look at it often :) You can also add a page to your watchlist by clicking on the tab for that at the top of the page. As I greeted you the first time, you are permanently on my watchlist - I never remove people.
And as we know that new editors can get a bit lost, most moderators will also look at Recent Changes occasionally to see if a new editor may need help with something where noone is watching or where the watchers are on vacation or something. We are a friendly bunch and tend to try to take care of our new editors. :) Annie 18:50, 4 September 2020 (EDT)

The Pool of Fire & The City of Gold and Lead

Hello. You've asked a couple of questions in the Note to Moderator field of your submisisons here and here, which I will try to answer as best I can :) (by the way, that's not the right way to ask these kind of questions. Much better to post questions like these over at the Help Desk (press '+' next to edit at the top of that screen for a new question/subject)

  • For The Pool of Fire you asked ' Price is $1.50, cover says $1.25. Do you want me to try to correct this, or do you want me to turn to the uploader? If the Edit History is empty, does that mean the sole (in this case) primary verifier is the uploader? '
    • For older records (like this one), there is no edit history available as the version of the ISFDB at the time did not keep submission information yet
    • If an edit history exists, you can use that info to determine the very first editor that submitted the record. However, there's no need to contact the initial submitter, only the verifiers (if any) need to be contacted for notification/confirmation (see next bullet).
    • As to your question how to fix this, the standard approach is to confirm with any other (active) verifier if he/she agrees with the correction by posting on his/her talk page. Now, for this case Kpulliam has not been active for a long time, and in addition he transiently verified the publication, meaning he had it only temporarily in his possession - probably from a library. So, since it isn't possible to ask him, you can fix this record for the Fifth Collier Books printing of The Pool of Fire yourself by either updating the price from $1.50 to $1.25 (but only if the cover of your 5th printing says $1.25 too). Alternatively, you can upload a new cover scan and leaving the price at $1.50 - assuming of course that the cover of your 5th printing copy says $1.50.
  • For The City of Gold and Lead you asked ' price says $0.95, cover says $1.25. Do you want me to report this to... the person uploading this edition? How do I know who that person is? '
    • As above. You can contact the primary verifier on his/her talk page to ask whether the price is wrong, or the cover image. As Taweiss has been active as recent as August 29th, he should be answering fairly quickly. He will either fix it himself, or ask you to fix the error.

As both your submissions didn't change anything, and I've (hopefully) answered your questions to your satisfaction, I've rejected them. I will monitor your talk page, so you can reply here (by pressing the edit at the right of this subject's title, and indenting with one or more colons ':') with any answers or further questions you may have. Or over at the the Help Desk of course! Happy editing! Regards, MagicUnk 09:58, 6 September 2020 (EDT)

My printing clearly states $0.95 on the cover. Perhaps you have a later printing. TAWeiss 17:57, 7 September 2020 (EDT)

The Sands of Mars

A few items on cover images:

  • Cover images should be uploaded using the "Upload new cover scan" option on the publication. If you are adding a new publication, you should wait for the publication to be added and then upload it using the link. The link will properly name the image as well as apply the correct templates.
  • Cover images should be limited to 600px on the largest side.
  • Once you have uploaded a cover to the wiki, you need to click on the image (so you get just the image) and copy that URL. The link should not have "archive" in it (if it does this means you clicked on the date link on an old version in the File history section). If the link has an archive, it will only ever show that image and never update if someone uploads a better image.

For all of those reasons, I took Image:The sands of mars 1971 sphere.jpg, resized it, re-uploaded in via the correct method, and updated the cover link in The Sands of Mars. Hope that explanation was clear. If not, please let me know what questions you have. -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:08, 19 September 2020 (EDT)

If I am ever forced to upload a cover image again, I will come back here and try to understand all these steps. I took a decent 30 minutes trying to read through the documentation and figure out this procedure. I'm just gonna keep linking to amazon covers as long as I can. A question about amazon since I have your attention, is there a particular sub-domain of amazon we are supposed to link to, where we can be sure the cover will stay unchanged? Apart from what you write about a publication still being in print, any other cover I find on Amazon is guaranteed to keep its url? --Spacecow 18:00, 19 September 2020 (EDT)
Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a guarantee for any Amazon cover. Usually they are pretty stable, but some can change. You could try asking at ISFDB:Help desk to see if someone else has seen a pattern. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:48, 19 September 2020 (EDT)
I used your proposed method to upload a cover this time, thank you very much - it went a bit smoother. However, you seem to have a size limit (in bytes), which I don't find any documentation for, on the cover as well as the 600px limit. It took me a bunch of trial-and-errors to get the cover uploaded, converting it to different formats. A final question: after using the "Upload cover scan" on a specific publication that was missing said cover and having it successfully been uploaded, do I still need to submit an edit request to have the image attached to the publication in question? --Spacecow 04:28, 4 October 2020 (EDT)
Yes, you still need to edit the publication and add the URL into the book. The upload creates the connection from the image to the publication but not the other way around. Make sure you link to the image and not the wiki page with it :) Annie 06:31, 4 October 2020 (EDT)

I, Robot

To moderator who took upon him/her-self to go through my submission, here's a cover we are supposed to have permission to link to.

Voyage to Venus (Perelandra)

I approved you edit adding the cover art to Voyage to Venus (Perelandra). The cover has only "Voyage to Venus". Does the title page include the "(Perelandra)"? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 12:24, 4 October 2020 (EDT)

Yes, the title page reads: "Voyage to Venus (Perelandra)" --Spacecow 14:36, 4 October 2020 (EDT)
I could add that part as a note and some other stuff from the copyright page if you want me to. --Spacecow 14:42, 4 October 2020 (EDT)
Please. When the cover and title page differ, it is always good to have a pub note so there is not confusion down the road. We are good with more details also. ;-) -- JLaTondre (talk) 16:03, 4 October 2020 (EDT)

The Best of Frank Herbert 1952-1964

Cover art for this confIrmed as Ray Feibush on the Bruce Pennington Fan Page on Facebook. --Mavmaramis 10:55, 9 October 2020 (EDT)

If you say so. I have no idea myself - nothing in the book --Spacecow 16:26, 9 October 2020 (EDT)

The Grey King

About this one. The second 1979 printing will indeed be the fourth printing. If the two 1979 printings are listed in your book, then it is 4th - in which case, you should clone for it and leave our third printing in place. Annie 16:34, 25 October 2020 (EDT)

Thank you. I'll cancel my edit request and will make a new entry. --Spacecow 08:55, 26 October 2020 (EDT)
I've approved your submission, but it needs some more massaging :) Best to state explicitly that this is a fourth printing. Also, I suspect the +[1] in the Pages field is for an "About the Author" or "Acknowledgements"? If so, the number of pages should simply read 188, as generally speaking these "About the Author" and "Acknowledgements" are not meaningful (there are exceptions of course. Those are recorded as an ESSAY in the Contents section). You are of course still free to make a note about them. See also here and this howto for an explanation on how to calculate and enter page numbers. Regards, MagicUnk 09:55, 26 October 2020 (EDT)
Done, mentioned printing and I hope I solved the page issue. --Spacecow 13:10, 26 October 2020 (EDT)
Perfect! Thanks! MagicUnk 15:42, 26 October 2020 (EDT)

Six Gates from Limbo

Cover artist of this is Gino d'Achille, see ginodachille.com. Horzel 17:19, 22 January 2021 (EST)

If you say so. That is fine by me. --Spacecow 17:28, 22 January 2021 (EST)

The Star Diaries

Hi! I imported the interior artworks and corrected the page count for the publication mentioned above. If you find time please check the beginning pages for the pieces: they were taken from a different edition that has the same count of x+275 pages. Thanks, Stonecreek 00:22, 31 January 2021 (EST)

Looks good to me. --Spacecow 10:24, 31 January 2021 (EST)

Shakespeare's Planet

Re this - surely the same artwork as on this edition - only different colours and signiature "removed." --Mavmaramis 14:20, 4 February 2021 (EST)

Mission to Universe

Question: for the 1965 Berkley edition of Mission to Universe by Gordon R. Dickson where you are listed as a primary verifier, Heritage Auctions lists the cover artist as Jerry Dodwil. (https://fineart.ha.com/itm/paintings/jerry-dodwil-american-20th-century-mission-to-universe-paperback-cover-1965-mixed-media-on-board-18-x-10-inches-457-x-254/a/8000-71230.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115)

Is it ok to add this information and user the Pub notes list Heritage Auctions as the source? aardvark7 15:54, 9 May 2021 (EDT)

For me it's ok. I find nothing in the book that mentions the cover artist. --Spacecow 07:36, 10 May 2021 (EDT)

Gardens of the Moon

Added a couple notes and the LCCN to Gardens of the Moon. John Scifibones 11:13, 10 June 2021 (EDT)

The Healthy Dead

While verifying The Healthy Dead, I added several pub notes and an ext ID, John Scifibones 13:07, 10 June 2021 (EDT)

Galaxy 1963-10

Cover art of this issue is credited to Dember, but the same but differently cut cover art of Galaxie #1, Mai 1964 is clearly signed R McK, that is, Richard McKenna (not the writer). Horzel 11:08, 20 July 2021 (EDT)

The Moon Maid

I have cloned this pub of The Moon Maid as there are two variations differentiated by the publisher address. Your primary verification may be incorrect. The edit and clone were just submitted. Given the backlog, I expect a few days before they are processed. ../Doug H 16:31, 24 August 2021 (EDT)

Splitting some Burroughs publications you have verified

Some existing Burroughs publications you have PV'd have two variants that need to be split. You have verified The Moon Maid and Tarzan and the Lost Empire

Please check this poll to help determine which variant is the existing entry, and which is created. Your participation is appreciated. ../Doug H 23:35, 26 August 2021 (EDT)

There is one PV for you to move: Tarzan and the Lost Empire - Address: 1120 Avenue of the Americas vs. 23 West 47th Street - from the first to the second. Thanks ../Doug H 22:29, 3 September 2021 (EDT)

The Deep Range

Hello,

I agree with your assessment here but there is at least one active PV on the book besides you so can you check with him (Willem H.) to see what he thinks about this? Thanks! Annie 01:29, 17 October 2021 (EDT)

Done. Checking with Willem. http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Willem_H.#The_Deep_Range --Spacecow 04:57, 17 October 2021 (EDT)

The Sword of the Lady

Verifying I assume? Helps to mention it in the moderator note so we know you are working off the actual book. :) Annie 07:44, 20 October 2021 (EDT)

Yes, i got it. Added varification. --Spacecow 08:49, 20 October 2021 (EDT)

Capitalization

Are you sure that Swedish capitalizes every word in a title? Also - commonly named essays get the name of the book in parenthesis after their name so we do not end up with 100 essays called Introduction on the same author page. :) I fixed it here. Annie 15:40, 25 October 2021 (EDT)

You are right. Capitalization on every word in Swedish is usually not a thing, but this one does - both on title page, front cover, spline, everywhere.
But you are right. What are the rules here? The translator is probably just Americanized. I'm not saying that Wikipedia is right, but it is listed there in the common Swedish way with only the first letter capitalized: https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delfinserien_(Bonniers). And that would be the common way writing it, whenever you talk about it. --Spacecow 17:57, 25 October 2021 (EDT)
I added cover so you can see how it is written everywhere in the publication. --Spacecow 17:59, 25 October 2021 (EDT)
The parenthesis thing - I understand and at the same time don't. You should be able to display the title it points to in the link if you wanted to. Doing it like you are proposing, whenever a title needs to change, you need to change the title in those links too. But I can do that. Are we talking about all Introduction, Preface, Afterword titles, etc.? --Spacecow 17:02, 25 October 2021 (EDT)
We follow the language rules. For Swedish it is sentence case.
The links are fine but if you have 100 essays called Introduction on a prolific author page, which one do you click on to get to the one you want. Do you try all of them? So commonly named essays in any language get their names disambiguated by adding the book title. Yes - all essays having a title that is common - if they have a separate title, you are fine. But “Introduction” In any language always gets the book name. See the help page for the title field please. Both of those are somewhat covered there. Annie 19:45, 25 October 2021 (EDT)
For example see all those Forewords? With the disambiguation you can click on the one you are looking for. Imagine the list with just naked Foreword titles. And that’s a mild case. And here is the help page - standard titles at the bottom but read the whole thing. :) Annie 19:51, 25 October 2021 (EDT)
I understand how it works now and I understand how you have solved the problem. What I am talking about would require a software update. I will check out that help page again before making any more edits. --Spacecow 03:31, 26 October 2021 (EDT)
As with every software, a lot of things can be done differently if you change the design. Yes - that could have been handled programmatically but that would have made merges very hard to figure out for example - if you are adding Introduction to 3 books, are they the same or not (think novels inside of omnibuses for example). Everything is solvable and that’s how the design went here. :) Annie 08:35, 26 October 2021 (EDT)
I will be updating "De Sista och De Första Människorna" to "De sista och de första människorna", and probably even the Stapledon pseudonym "En av De Sista Människorna" to "En av de sista människorna" (once the link to Stapledon author page is established) according to Swedish language rules. Thanks pointing this out. --Spacecow 05:27, 26 October 2021 (EDT)

En av De Sista Människorna

Hi! Go to the Olaf Stapledon[2] page get the author # hint 81 and return to the "En av De Sista Människorna" authors page use "Make/Remove Alternate Name", the plug in # into "Pareent Record#" this will create the link. I'll approve the submission. Note the page will be blank this is the way it will look after I variant the title. After the names are linked it will show the alternate names. I'll check back to see how thing work out. Thanks21:37, 25 October 2021 (EDT)

Done. I hope. --Spacecow 05:23, 26 October 2021 (EDT)
Approved and its correct. thanks.Kraang 08:28, 26 October 2021 (EDT)

In Search of Wonder

About In Search of Wonder: this backs you up. $7.00 is widely out of range for a tp by this publisher at this time - or even a few years later. I added a note explaining when and why the price was changed so it is clear that the earlier PVs did not verify the price. Feel free to rewrite the note I put in there :) Annie 05:57, 12 November 2021 (EST)

I'm adding the cover with the price tag of $2.75 as we speak. The current cover doesn't display the pricetag. --Spacecow 05:59, 12 November 2021 (EST)
Which is fine :) The note still needs to be there :) Annie 06:00, 12 November 2021 (EST)

Enemies of the System: A Tale of Homo Uniformis ?

Hi, in the process of transforming this to NOVELLA / CHAPBOOK (see the Community Portal) I ran across the OCLC entry for this, which has Enemies of the System: A Tale of Homo Uniformis. The cover has just Brian Aldiss, whereas we (and OCLC) have Brian W. Aldiss, so I assume the W. is part of the author's name on the title page. Are you able to check your copy? Thanks, Stonecreek 12:43, 5 December 2021 (EST)

Title page says Brian Aldiss --Spacecow 08:41, 6 December 2021 (EST)

Stirling Change novels

I was going to PV several of the S. M. Stirling novels and noticed that some adjustments need to be made. I'll also be adding a bunch of notes, the LCCN, and the WorldCat ID to them.

The Sword of the Lady has the title for the map on page [vii] missing. Mind if I add it and change the page count to vii+484?

The High King of Montival has the title for the map on page [ix] missing. Mind if I add it and change the page count to ix+481?

The Tears of the Sun has the title for the map on page [ix] missing. Mind if I add it and change the page count to ix+530?

Darkness & Light

I'm going to replace the Amazon cover image for our mutually verified copy of Darkness & Light. However, I also noticed that we have the incorrect title as "Darkness and Light" and that the title page uses the ampersand. I'll be correcting that as well. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 17:51, 3 February 2022 (EST)

Actually I'll hold off on the title change a bit. I just noticed that you have also verified the 1989 printing. I see that the cover has the ampersand. Could you check the title page and let me know whether it is also "Darkness & Light"? It will be easier to change them both instead of creating a variant title. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 17:55, 3 February 2022 (EST)

Beyond Eden

Hi Spacecow -

You added a question in your edit for Beyond Eden. I don't think you need to upload that image unless you think it is likely to disappear from its site. I would recommend that you add the URL to the Web Page field for the publications relying on that note for their date. I'll approve your existing edit shortly. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 09:51, 16 February 2022 (EST)

Would I be uploading the pic to isfdb? using the "Upload new cover scan" functionality for the specific publication in question? --Spacecow 09:56, 16 February 2022 (EST)
I'd only recommend that if you think the URL is likely to be unstable. Otherwise, you can just add the URL to the Web Page field in the publication record. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 10:01, 16 February 2022 (EST)
Yes, the site I used is an anonymous upload site for temporary use, only. --Spacecow 10:04, 16 February 2022 (EST)
Sure. Then go ahead and upload it. You'll want to change the title so as not to overwrite the cover image (maybe append "_review_note"). You can then place the image of the note in the webpage field. Let me know if you run into any issues. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 10:10, 16 February 2022 (EST)
I'll go ahead and do that now, right away, on the pb edition. If you are ok with that change, I can redo my edit submission on the hc edition too before you approve the current one without link to the review copy. --Spacecow 10:18, 16 February 2022 (EST)
Looks good. Approved. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 10:31, 16 February 2022 (EST)

Seems fine, all your edits. Great that you are taking the time
I noticed that the maps seems to be the same for some books, and somewhat evolved in later.
"About the author" seems to be exactly the same in all your edits.
Would it be in place to set one of them as parent and the other as variant? at some point in time.
I am not really sure the right way to go about it. --Spacecow 16:22, 19 March 2022 (EDT)
The maps can vary by book and have the same title which is why they are differentiated by the addition of the publication title in parentheses. The same is true for the essays including "About the Author". As such, it's my understanding that they aren't eligible to be made into variants. Phil 22:26, 19 March 2022 (EDT)

Cool. What is that colourful icon in the top right corner? --Spacecow 13:13, 23 March 2022 (EDT)
Looks like price sticker to me. An attempt was made to half-heartedly remove it. --Mavmaramis 11:36, 30 April 2022 (EDT)

Firstborn and The Qualinesti

For Firstborn, do you mind if I change the page count to [8]+305 and add the map on page [6]?

For The Qualinesti, do you mind if I change the page count to [6]+310 and add the map on page [6]?
Thanks! I'll PV both of them. Phil 10:03, 27 March 2022 (EDT)

Seems fine :) --Spacecow 10:28, 27 March 2022 (EDT)

A Private Cosmos / The Gates of Creation

Pauline Baynes illustrations

Hi. I've put these two submissions on hold Prince Caspian[4],The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe[5] as they should be merged, not made variant. The author, titles and language are the same, minor differences in the cover design are not variated.Kraang 16:32, 25 April 2022 (EDT)

Thanks for explaining. I didn't realize that. I did something similar with Swedish Otherland titles, f.ex. here: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?3019667 . Those should be variants, because of title and language being different? Got it. --Spacecow 19:08, 25 April 2022 (EDT)

Conklin's Science Fiction Oddities

The Notes section to Oddities says "Abridged from the US edition, contains 1/2 the stories" but it only contains 8/19 of the stories and, while Oddities, Second Series doesn't have a primary verifier on it, the note says "Contains the rest of the stories from the '66 US edition" but there are only 10 stories listed. If the story lists are correct, then H. F. Ellis' "Space-Crime Continuum" is omitted in the split volumes. --J-Sun 20:39, 18 May 2022 (EDT)

Good catch. I checked my edition and it actually does contain Space-Crime Continuum by H.F. Ellis, on page 122. I can submit that edit. Also, my edition is missing dust jacket (and I don't know if it initially had one), but I could include some notes about its red boards and silver embossed printing, if that would help anyone. --Spacecow 13:49, 19 May 2022 (EDT)

The Wind's Twelve Quarters

For The Wind's Twelve Quarters, would you mind if I change the page count to [8]+277+[1], add a note "• The "Foreword" on page [7] is incorrectly shown as being on page "ix" in the ToC.", and change the page number for the "Foreword" to [7]? Thanks! Phil 08:47, 24 May 2022 (EDT)

That works for me. But why add [8] pages if you only gonna use the last 2? Wouldn't [2]+277+[1] make more sense, with Foreword on page [1]? Thanks Phil --Spacecow 12:49, 24 May 2022 (EDT)
When adding the count of unnumbered pages at the front of a book, you always start from the very first unnumbered page after the cover and count until you reach page 1 (or the page that would be numbered page 1 if that page doesn't have a number printed on it). The Help text isn't very clear on this point. Phil 22:07, 24 May 2022 (EDT)
Thanks. That makes sense. --Spacecow 00:45, 25 May 2022 (EDT)

Derai

Picked up a copy of this. Notes on record state "The price zone on back cover seems to have been overprinted." not entirely sure what this means. On my copy thiese are printed on a thin (like 1") gold band at bottom of rear cover. I don't believe for a moment the cover artist is Chris Achilleos - looks nothing like his 1970s style at all - no visible signiature either. I'm not going to remove any notes, merely edit to reflect the publication I have in my hand. --Mavmaramis 12:39, 14 June 2022 (EDT)

I would assume the "overprinting" refers to the same gold strip you mention. I think your comment made it clearer what we are talking of. I have no opinion about the cover artist - not really familiar with Chris Achilleos. --Spacecow 18:26, 16 June 2022 (EDT)

The Moon Men

According to this post on The British Edgar Rice Burroughs Society facebook page cover art for this is Dave Pether. --Mavmaramis 13:43, 6 July 2022 (EDT)

The White Mountains / Pool of Firew

I've been sent a photo of the hardback edition of this. Signed Roger Hane left of the leg of the left hand figure. This is also signed Roger Hane along ground under baloon basket. --Mavmaramis 14:20, 13 July 2022 (EDT)

I had a look at my editions again, and I cannot find any trace of a signature. However, I own a copy the The Guardians, by Christoper
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?419785
which share a very similar style of the cover. That one is clearly signed Roger Hane. --Spacecow 09:50, 14 July 2022 (EDT)

Elric of Melniboné

For Elric of Melniboné, would you mind if I add the map on page 8 and notes for the edition, printing, cover, map, and other currencies? Thanks! Phil 08:35, 20 July 2022 (EDT)

Absolutely not :). Here's a sanity check:
  • map on 8-9
  • First published by [over] Hutchinson & Co (publishers) Ltd 1972 [over] Arrow edition 1973
  • Australia $1.20, New Zealand $1.20, Malta 40c, Canada $1.35
  • --Spacecow 15:30, 20 July 2022 (EDT)
(And how did you know I was sitting and reading Elric right at this very moment?!)

    The Sundering Flood

For The Sundering Flood, would you mind if I change the page count to xv+238 and add the uncredited map on page [xv]? The current Roman numeral page count is incorrect since the last printed page number is xiii not xii. I'll also add cover artist, map artist, and ISBN/SBN notes. Thanks! Phil 07:05, 23 July 2022 (EDT)

No, please do :). And your observation of map being page xv seems correct. --Spacecow 09:48, 23 July 2022 (EDT)

    Who?

Cover art for this is Peter Tybus. Same image as Les goulags mous --Mavmaramis 11:48, 26 July 2022 (EDT)

Good find. --Spacecow 15:54, 26 July 2022 (EDT)

n Stories, and Other Essays in Literature

Regarding this submission: Why are you trying to change the container title? The container title should match the publication. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:19, 11 August 2022 (EDT)

By mistake, I set my publication to point at: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?194147
but it should be pointing at: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?194148
The title of the book is "Of This and Other Worlds", not "On Stories, and Other Essays in Literature"
You can see a cover scan here: https://isbnsearch.org/isbn/0006265456
    Thx --Spacecow 06:57, 12 August 2022 (EDT)
The publication also had to be edited to change the publication title. I accepted your edit, imported the new record, & edited the publication title. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:51, 12 August 2022 (EDT):
    Thank you.
Just so I know for next time, I need to make 3 separate edits to make this work?
And you would like to have them all 3 at once?
    1) Remove old title
    2) Add new title
    3) Edit title of publication --Spacecow 14:35, 13 August 2022 (EDT)
Correct. From order, it is probably best to do 3, 2, 1. That makes it clearer to the approver. You should be able to submit all three edits in parallel, but not necessary. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:57, 14 August 2022 (EDT)

    Edmund Cooper / Deadly Image

Posted on the talk pages of: Willem H, GlennMcG, Spacecow
I will be editing and PVing Deadly Image and propose to:
    1) update date to 1958-05-00, add pub note stating source which is the 1969 Ballantine second printing and update date on title and coverart records
    2) add pub note advising that the 1958 UK Hutchinson hc states that it is preceded by this edition
    3) delete the Clute/Nichols (sic) reference in accordance with my post: 'Clute/Nicholls and "First Edition"' on the Moderators' Noticeboard dated 3 April 2022 (now archived)
Are you ok with all this? Teallach 18:09, 15 August 2022 (EDT)

    1) and 2) seems fine to me.
    3) no comment - I don't know what that is about --Spacecow 18:32, 15 August 2022 (EDT)

    Edmund Cooper / Tomorrow's Gift

Posted on the talk pages of: Kraang, Willem H, Dirk P Broer, GlennMcG, Spacecow
I will be editing and PVing Tomorrow's Gift
    1) the pub record has a contents entry "Brain Child". This matches the TOC but the title of the story on page 63 is "The Brain Child"
    2) the pub record has a contents entry "M81-Ursa Major". This matches the TOC but the title of the story on page 95 is "M81: Ursa Major"
I will make the appropriate corrections and add pub notes regarding the discrepancies with the TOC Teallach 17:58, 16 August 2022 (EDT)

    1) seems right
    2) even "M 81" with a space, if you wanna be even more picky --Spacecow 18:52, 16 August 2022 (EDT)
Thanks for pointing out the space. I did notice it originally but it seemed too minor to merit another variant. However, after seeing your comment, I checked this help page and under "Symbols and punctuation" it does say "Hyphens and spaces make different titles". So another variant it will be. Oh, by the way, yes, I am extremely picky. In fact, "Picky" is my middle name. :-) Teallach 17:33, 17 August 2022 (EDT)
I want you to wear "picky" as a badge of honour :) --Spacecow 17:36, 17 August 2022 (EDT)

The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, February 1986

The cover art of this, the ascribed to G. P. Lendino, a one hit wonder, is claimed by James Gurney in a "Works by" list in Imaginative Realism: How to Paint What Doesn't Exist. The style is very similar, so I'll make GP Lendino a pseudonym of James Gurney. Horzel 09:03, 27 August 2022 (EDT)
