Welcome!

Hello, Scifibookman, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! MagicUnk 15:29, 10 September 2020 (EDT)

Star Trek 2

I had to reject this submission. We would like that publication added, it just wasn't the correct way to do it. Instead, please go to the US Edition and on the left side menu, select "Clone This Pub". You will then edit the details to match your publication including date, price, and pub notes. For an example of a Canadian edition, please see this one. For the price field, please use the format "C$0.50". If you have any questions, let me know here. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:39, 12 September 2020 (EDT)

The two replacement submissions here and here also have issues. If you are trying to add a Canadian version, the price should be in Canadian currency. Is that the case? If so - which of the two versions do you want to keep (I can fix the price). If it is a US book, it looks like this one? So can you clarify? Thanks! Annie 01:09, 8 October 2020 (EDT)

Hi. It is a Canadian edition. You can fix the price to reflect Cdn prices etc. I also attempted to send in a Canadian listing for Daw #129 UY1145 Arena of Antares Dray Prescot #7. Similar note - Canadian price $1.25. Cover is same as US edition but 3rd page notes published by New American Library of Canada and states printed in Canada under copyright p.4 I am also currently working on the next books in the series Prescot 8 (Daw 145 UY1165) and 9 (Daw 159 UY1188), both Canadian editions and both priced at C$1.25 I will be placing up on Ebay for sale under seller name j.misao where I will have photos

I think it is fixed now. Annie 13:22, 18 October 2020 (EDT)

Many thanks for taking the time. I went through some 20 editions from the series to check Canadian editions and saw that most were already on the site. I will continue on with #'s 21 through 30. At one time, I had the first 300 Daw Books in both Cdn and US editions. Many now gone to other collectors etc. Downsizing !! But as I come across more Daw, I will see if any CDN editions listed on your site. Hope this is helpful. Charles

SFBC books

We handle SFBC books differently than any other publisher - we keep a single publication and add all differences inside of the same record. So if you have a SFBC edition that has a different gutter code, just add yours to the notes inside of the existing record. See this for more information.

PS: One more small note: keep in mind that "Catalog ID" is a formatted field so don't add things like "2255 on back cover" in it, it should be just "02255" and the remark for the back cover should go into the Notes :)Annie 20:19, 25 October 2020 (EDT)

Again thank you for the additional info about SFBC books. I do appreciate your site especially for DAWS . My enthusiasm to report or help may hinder me ha ha I hope to get the knack of it. Charles
No worries -- the SFBC handling is a bit... different - so if you do not know to look for it, it is not obvious. Thanks for all your updates! Annie 14:30, 26 October 2020 (EDT)

The Best of Trek

I had to reject this submission. You are changing the US edition into a Canadian edition. You need to clone the existing publication to make a new Canadian version. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:56, 5 July 2021 (EDT)

The Explorers

About this submission. Can you check with a few of the PVs here if theirs do not say the same as well? There is nothing in our 2nd printing record to say that it is not indeed printed in Canada - so we may still just have a single printing with that date. Or are there other differences besides that statement? Also - if that is indeed a Canadian second printing, won't the price also need changing to C$ and is the date really matching the US second printing? Thanks! Annie 20:35, 11 November 2021 (EST)

Revenge of the Damned

I have this on hold. If I approve it, all you are creating is a record that is the same as we have. Based on your moderator note, you have a different printing BUT if that is the case, the notes are not valid anymore. Can you please clarify:

  • What prices are printed on the book?
  • Which lines of the existing notes still apply for your edition.

I can either approve and then update based on your answers OR you can reject your old clone (the one I am holding) and resubmit it fixing the notes to actually describe your copy. Let me know what you prefer. Also - do you plan to verify the new book? Annie 20:40, 11 November 2021 (EST)

The prices on the cover are the same as shown in the listing. As I said, it does say under the isbn on the copyright page that the book is Printed In Canada, Feb, 1989 etc. And the back cover on bottom right has Cover Printed in USA.
If I approve what you have submitted as is, the notes of the new book will say "Manufactured in the United States of America." which is obviously incorrect. As I said - I can replace that with "Printed in Canada" and "Cover Printed in USA". Please don't forget to update the notes (not the moderator notes) when you are submitting for such a clone. Approved and fixed. I also swapped the prices - as it is the Canadian book, the C$ one goes into the price field, the US One goes into the notes. See the result here. That makes the book different from the US one - otherwise we had a duplicate. Thanks for adding it! Let me know if you have any questions. Annie 12:12, 15 November 2021 (EST)

The Year's Best Horror Stories: Series VI

Regarding your moderator note here: Please clone the existing record and make a new record for the Canadian edition. When cloning, please update the publication notes to clearly state it is printed in Canada and use the Canadian price (with "C$") in the price field. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 12:14, 10 December 2023 (EST)
