Welcome!
Hello, SMcCaffery, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Help pages
- Field-by-field guide to entering new publications into the database
- Help:Getting Started
- What the ISFDB Wiki is for
- FAQ
- Wiki editing help - Tips on how to use the wiki-specific features when editing wiki pages.
- Wiki Conventions - How things are usually done on this wiki.
- Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki
Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.
Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.
I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! BLongley 15:45, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Night Terrors III
I had to reject your submission to add a new publication record for this title because there's already one in the database. If you wish to add contents to the record, click the Edit This Pub link. Thanks. Mhhutchins 21:03, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Pandora's Children
I removed the quotation marks from the title as they don't appear to be present in the publication of the work. Mhhutchins 22:32, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Wave Goodbye
Is this a work of speculative fiction? If it is not, we can't create a publication record for the mystery magazine in which it was published. You have the option to create a bibliographic comments page which is linked to the author's summary page to list all of the non-eligible works. Go to [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?12835 the author's summary page and click on the link "Author:Simon McCaffery" which will open a new wiki page. Do NOT remove the header. Below it you can enter whatever data you'd like, including works which are not eligible for the database along with bibliographic information. Then save the page. Thanks. Mhhutchins
- Hello Mhhutchins -- Yes, this short story was a science fiction mystery story. Thank you. Simon
- I'll accept the submission, but have to clean-up the record. Thanks. Mhhutchins 16:52, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Volume numbering
If you want to add volume numbering it should go in the Note field, not the publication series field (that's for an entirely different purpose). Also, you should give the currency symbol when adding a price. I added the "$" to the price field of a record you submitted. Mhhutchins 19:41, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Crediting as published
I had to reject your submissions to change the author credit of this title. Records must reflect credit (both title and authorship) as they appear in the publication. In this case, I created a pseudonym relationship between Simon P. McCaffery and Simon McCaffery. Then varianted the records to the canonical author's name so that they appear on his summary page. Mhhutchins 19:56, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Upload standards
I'm going to have to delete this cover image file because its dimensions exceeds our standards. I see that you've already uploaded a smaller one. You should now update the publication record to link this file. Just enter its URL in the proper field. Mhhutchins 20:25, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Non-genre publications
Please read these instructions on creating a record for a non-genre periodical. I fixed the record you created for this issue of Hitchcock's Mystery, and now it appears I have to fix a few others. You should have used the first as a guide to entering the latter ones.
And again, I've had to reject your submissions to change the published credit for stories by Simon P. McCaffery. If the stories were published with that credit (as our sources indicate), then they must remain credited that way in the database. You can see that I have made into variants of records credited to the canonical form of the author's name (Simon McCaffery). If the works were not credited to "Simon P." please respond to this message and I can fix the credit and remove the variants. Otherwise, please leave them as is. Thanks. Zombie Kong
Submission adding this record was excepted but changes had to be made based on the standards which are linked in the Welcome section above. It is important that you at least read this page, which is a field-by-field guide to creating records on the ISFDB. If you have any questions ask at the ISFDB:Help desk.
- Title was changed from "Zombie Kong - Anthology" to "Zombie Kong Anthology". This is how the title appears in the Amazon "Look Inside" of the ebook. If there is a separation on the title page of the print book or a change in font size or type, then a colon (":") and space should be given between the main title and the subtitle.
- Page count was changed from "220" to "218" based on the OCLC listing. If there are unnumbered pages with substantial text after the last numbered page, please count them and record that fact in the Note field.
- Pub type was changed from "unknown" to "tp" based on the Amazon listing.
- ISBN was changed from "1-927112-07-9" to "978-1-927112-07-6". All publications from January 2007 should have a full ISBN-13.
Also, it would be very helpful if you would add the other contents, or at least state in the Note field that the contents are incomplete. You should also have a source for the data in the Note field. You had an option during the submission process to provide other sources. If you have a copy of the publication please do a primary verification of it, unless you don't intend on adding the remaining contents of the publication. Mhhutchins 22:56, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Story in Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine
According to most sources the story "Strawberry Moon" appeared in the June 1994 issue and not the December 1994 issue. Can you confirm the date of the record you created.
Also, you're failing to provide the source for the data in the records you're creating. That is a requirement when adding records to the ISFDB. This keeps the moderator from having to research and confirm the data, providing the sources to the record, etc. It also protects the integrity of the database. Thanks for cooperating. Mhhutchins 23:15, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- I see you just added a cover image to the June 1994 record to the one that was entered as December 1994. That confirms that the original date was wrong and I'll correct it. Mhhutchins 23:17, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Drive-In Creature Feature
Hello, I've approved your submission for this publication but made some changes to conform to our standards: 1) the "webpage" field is used for a link to a place "about" the title, not a place where one edition is sold (I've blanked the field), 2) changed ISBN-10 to ISBN-13, 3) added artist, 4) deleted quotes on the title of your story as per toc. The result is here. If you own a copy of the book, don't hesitate to enter the whole content, not only your text. Thanks. Hauck 17:38, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Dread State: A Political Horror Anthology
Hello,
I accepted your submission but had to do a few changes:
- We add the subtitle with a ":" after the title and before the subtitle so I changed that
- It has two editors so I added the second one.
- When adding a picture, the name of the file needs to be cleaned. You had 51svYEIt4ML._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg (as Amazon), it should be pared down to 51svYEIt4ML.jpg (plus the full path before that of course)
- I blanked out the Webpage field - a link to google that forwards to Amazon is the same as an amazon link - this is for a place where the book is presented (publisher site, author site) and not for a place where you can buy the book (Amazon, B&N and so on).
- Updated the publication date based on Amazon. Let me know if you have an information that this date is incorrect.
- $ is needed before the currency - we are an international outfit :)
- According to the copyright page, 5 of the stories are reprints so their dates needed adjusting.
- Titles such as Introduction and Afterword need disambiguation with the name of the book. I had changed these two.
- Removed your note - the information that you are one of the contributors is not really needed and the fact that there is also an e-copy can be shown by creating it (which I will do as soon as I get a confirmation that the Amazon date is correct.
The result is here. By the way - can you do a search by ISBN before you add a book? We already had that one (with no content though) so I let your addition in (so you do not need to retype the content) and deleted the existing one. In a perfect world, we would have preferred the existing one to be updated :) Let me know if you have any questions!Annie 17:37, 6 July 2017 (EDT)
- I also added the lengths of the stories. --Vasha 21:31, 12 August 2017 (EDT)
