The Protected

Was this really first published in "Silicon Dreams" rather than "Bestseller: Wired, Analog, and Digital Writings"? BLongley 12:38, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Then this OCLC record must be wrong? If so, you should correct the ISFDB record, using the "Remove Titles from This Pub" function under the Editing Tools menu. I accepted your publication addition, but made some changes to match ISFDB standards:

  • Title: I removed the series information in parenthesis.
  • Editor: I added David Sobkowiak as an editor per Amazon look-inside
  • Publisher: Filled in the publisher as Amazon Digital Services
  • Cover Artist: I added Scott Pond as an editor per Amazon look-inside
  • Cover Image: I changed the cover image link to Amazon as we can only use sites from which we have received permission to link image from (see ISFDB:Image linking permissions).
  • Contents: I filled in what contents I could from Amazon look-inside. Please complete the remaining stories.
  • Websites: Websites are for links specific to the book. Bookseller links are not included (they are provided automatically by the software via the left menu on the publication listing).

We do appreciate your submission. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. Speculative Valentine Drabble 2015

I've accepted the submission adding this publication to the database, but had to make several changes for it to comply to ISFDB standards. I added the ISBN, publication date and cover image from Amazon. Do not link an ISFDB record to a file on another website unless they have given us permission to do so. Also, please consider adding the other contents. A record that only has a single content should not be primary verified, since it is an incomplete record. Thanks for contributing. Little Differences, Late Lessons, and Last Calls

Please remove Little Differences and Late Lessons from the Chapbook list - those are duplicate listings of the two novelettes, first published in Analog in the 1990s.

Please add Last Calls to the Jeff Harris (short fiction, beginning with Loose Ends) series first published in Analog. Last Calls is the conclusion (4th and final story) in this Jeff Harris series. It was published as a chapbook, and not in Analog. The publication date is October, 2015. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PaulLev (talk • contribs) .

This should have been posted at the ISFDB:Help desk. This page is for other users to leave you messages, not the other way around. Also, it would really help if you provide links to the records that need to be fixed. Mhhutchins|talk 04:06, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
Now to your concerns: Little Differences and Late Lessons are standalone publications of the previously published stories, so they are correctly typed as CHAPBOOK per ISFDB standards.
As for adding a record for "Late Calls", you have the ability to add a publication record for this story yourself, being an ISFDB editor. If you're not sure how to do it, you can ask for assistance at the ISFDB:Help desk. I will do some research to find the data that's needed to create a record, but that shouldn't be something you'd expect other editors to do without requesting it at the Help desk. untitled / Remembering David Hartwell

Hi. I'm assuming that you are the author of that essay which is why you'd like to change the title. However I've recommended that Hervé reject your edit. One of our policies is to reflect the title exactly as it appears in the publication and in this case the essay appears without a title, as do several others in that issue of NYRSF. However, what I think we can do is create a variant/parent title relationship that will show the intended title of essay, but also maintain that it appeared in that issue without a title. I've rejected the submission. Note that I'm not thrilled by the introduction of "intended" titles as it may open the "working title", "author's prefered title", "submitted title", etc... can of worms. let's stick to what's on publication. SciPhi Jouirnal

I made a few changes to your verified publication [SciPhi Journal #4]: added reviews, removed the ISBN (which was for the print edition), and made the page numbers "invisible" by putting | in front of them (since an ebook doesn't have numbered pages, but the no's are still useful for keeping things in the right order). --Vasha (cazadora de tildes) 12:59, 27 June 2018 (EDT)

Hello, I am sorry to inform you that I had to reject your submission, since it was empty and really was for the container title. We are a publication-based site, so there has to be a single issue entered first (with all the information needed for it). But thanks for the info on the revival of the magazine! Amazing Stories, Spring 2019

I approved your submission of the latest Amazing Stories, but magazines never have an odd number of pages. Page count for magazines always includes the covers; if the covers are not numbered, the notes should say so, and add 4 to the number of pages with numbers. Bob 18:55, 7 May 2019 (EDT)

AcademFic

You have submitted AcademFic as a pb format. Is this correct? Per their website, I am only seeing it available as a downloadable PDF. Their about page says "AcademFic is published online in open access form". Once you respond here with the answer, I will accept the submission and update as appropriate. Tiny Time Machine

Two questions:

  • On this submission - how is this book different from this one? I can see the different publisher but... the ISBN is the same?
  • And talking about this one, Amazon has the size as 5.5 x 8.5 inches which would make it a "tp", not a "pb". Can you confirm that it is indeed the size of a mass market paperback and Amazon's size is wrong? If not, the format will need to change.

Edit the book. In the "Regular Titles" section add a new entry via the "Add Title" button (it is visible under the novel record and in it you want type ESSAY and title "The Big Story" (minus the quotes) and your name as the author as credited in the book. Add a page number to it and to the novel (so the novel stays behind the introduction). Submit at the bottom. Annie 15:22, 25 January 2021 (EST)

Pushback

Hello. I notice you've recently added the non-genre novel Pushback, which is by an author that's not above the 'threshold'. We do not record non-genre works unless it's work of a well-known, or a really prolific author, which I believe John E. Stith is neither. If you have no objection, I will delete the publication. A note on "McLuhan in An Age of Social Media" capitalization - unless "An Age of Social Media" is a title of some type (imaginary or not - think of "The hobbits in The Lord of the Rings" - the "The" is capitalized because we do not change fonts for titles inside of titles - in most places this internal title will be in Italics or something), this "An" should be "an". And if it is, someone should add a note on the title level explaining that or someone WILL correct it sooner or later. :) Annie 16:02, 28 January 2021 (EST)

One of those small things in the DB :) When you add a new book, we automatically create 2 records - the publication and the title ones (and a cover one if you specify a cover artist on the initial submission). Once that is approved, if you need to change a date or a title or the author name, you need to do it in ALL records as they are not tied anymore. In this case as there is only one book under the title, you could have changed both with your PubEdit but editing both the top (where you did) and the title record in the Regular Titles section. In case the record in the Regular Titles is greyed out, that means that more than one book uses the title - so you need to edit the title separately. Hope this makes sense. :). The Other Reel (2020)

Just wanted to mention that The Other Reel (2020), listed as a Short Story on my (Paul Levinson's) page, is not a short story but the title of an Essay Series (which it's also listed as).
