Skeleton Crew
You have verified the pubs containing Skeleton Crew (2017) and Skeleton Crew (2018). Normally we'd just merge duplicate titles, but since these appeared in two different Expanding Universe anthologies, was this a duplicate (so it should be merged) or was the title reused for a new story (in which case we need title notes)? Hello, when you have a chance, can you add a transliteration to the elements of this one and its author and fix whatever else I got wrong (I am not sure if this is the correct form of the author name - there seems to be a dot on the title page between the two names which I am not sure if we should record or if it is typeface thing). - Yes. Amazon often leaves it out (or replaces it with a Latin space), so copying from there doesn't always help. It's used pretty much all the time for foreign names so Japanese people will know where the parts of the names are. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:49, 30 September 2022 (EDT)
- As I said, I did wonder if it is part of the name or if it is a typographical convention/oddity or something else. I know that Amazon is normalizing names - it does it on all its versions so I look at the title pages when I can. :) Except with languages I cannot read, it takes awhile to figure out what is part of the name and what is on (for example in most Central European languages names are in different cases on pages (especially artists, narrators and translators but also authors when we get them from text and not from the page itself) and you actually need to get it back to the Nominative for recording because the form printed means "by name" and not just "name". Two more that need some massaging - the second and third in this series - the titles and the publisher need transliteration. Also - can you check the first one and add a book it as well? That title (and the series title based on that) looks more Chinese than Japanese to me (and I cannot find it in Amazon Japan under that title - I think that コーヒーが冷めないうちに is actually the first book and from there should be the series name) so we may have a wrong record? She and Her Cat
Hi Joe, you're possibly the right person to contact despite making only a minor edit to the Japanese edition of She and Her Cat, as the original editor Ron Kihara is not involving himself with Japanese editions these days (and I'll leave a message on his page to check in here if he so wishes). I've just added the recently-published English translation for this collection, and I have a couple of questions:
• What is the involvement of Naruki Nakagawa in this title? The name only appears on the cover and title page of the UK edition (not on the spine) and the inside back cover dustflap only gives a bio for Makoto Shinkai. The Japanese edition also only lists Shinkai as the author of the stories, which for the time being I've mirrored in English unless the stories are actually co-authored and Nakagawa's name would need to be added.
• There is an Epilogue in the UK edition that is not listed in the Japanese edition, however I'm sure it must appear there. Are you able to cast any light on this? (I've varianted the English title from the Japanese title however it still has the title in English.)
• I've also put all titles into a title series.

- On the Japanese release, Shinkai is listed as the creator of the stories (since he wrote the animation on which they are based), but the author of the stories is Nakagawa, so I've corrected the Japanese release.
