Bards and Sages Quarterly

Hi, I accepted your Bards and Sages Quarterly submission, and I made a few changes to it. You got the Look Inside/reader link as the cover image, which I changed to a link to the image (in IE, right-click on the image, choose Properties, then copy the name; in Firefox, right-click and choose Copy Image Location; in either case then see Help:Screen:EditPub#ImageURL for some hints about how to convert that to a link to a clean and properly-sized image). To my knowledge, you can't actually copy the front cover out of what the reader displays. The others were all minor ISFDB data entry standards sorts of things:

  • In a situation such as this, where it's the "April 2010" issue, you can use April as the publication month if you don't know the actual publication date. Having the month helps with proper ordering of the titles and publications in various displays.
  • We usually enter magazines as name comma date (or name comma issue number for magazines explicitly using issue numbers in their titles), always using comma as the separator. E.g., Bards and Sages Quarterly, April 2010.
  • Initials in authors'/artists' names should usually be regularized with periods and spaces (e.g., "M. D. Jackson" instead of "MD Jackson") unless the author is known to eschew the punctuation. I recommend erring on the side of sticking them in.
  • The capitalization of the words in the contained titles should also be regularized according to Help:Screen:EditPub#Title_2 -- generally short prepositions and determiners should be in lower case.

As I said, all minor things. I'm only mentioning them in case you're planning to enter the other issues of this magazine, which I hope you are. Hi again. I accepted your April 2012 issue submission, too. Many of the same comments as above applied: I put ", April 2012" in the title, I moved the ISSN from the catalog#/isbn field to the notes (and added the ISBN from Amazon), I put spaces between initials (and periods where missing). Bastion Science Fiction Magazine

Thanks for adding this magazine. However, I have put your submission on hold, because there are some problems that need to be addressed. First, does the peculiar spelling (BAST10N) indicate a special spelling throughout, or does it perhaps indicate the tenth issue? Also, we only deep-link to sites we have permission to link to, so the cover image has to be dropped as I fear; maybe there'd be a possibility to copy the image and upload it? The number you've given in the ISBN field appears to be Amazon's identifier (ASIN). That is considered neither an ISBN nor a catalog number. If you wish to add it to the record, it can be given in the Note field. Also, the page number field for ebook publications is usually left blank, because that is a user-defined length in most ebook formats. If it's a PDF file then it's OK to provide a page count. One last thing: the Amazon listing for this publication gives the publication date as "30 Mar 2014" which we enter into the date field as "2014-03-30". Once the submission has been accepted, you can update the date field of the publication record and each of its contents with that date, giving Amazon as the source. Thanks again. I had to delete the image you uploaded for this title, because it was too large. ISFDB standards ask that no file be larger than 150 kb, because even our disk space has itt limits. Sorry to pile on, but one more thing about working with magazines, and this magazine in particular: For a monthly such as this, we include the month and year as part of the title, separated by a comma. So: Bastion Science Fiction Magazine, April 2014 and Bastion Science Fiction Magazine, June 2014. And then we treat the publication date as the issue month (to do otherwise makes the issue grid look strange). I fixed these up. Night Lights

Hello, I've approved your submission but made some changes to conform to our standards: 1) changed editor from "Paul & Phillip Garver " to two different persons "Paul Garver" & "Phillip Garver", 2) changed publisher from "Geminid Pres" to "Geminid Press", 3) changed ISBN-10 to ISBN-13, 4) uploaded cover scan as we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified site, 5) corrected/regularized some authors as per toc on amazon (e.g. changed "Rebecca A Demarest" to "Rebecca A. Demarest"), 6) varianted Dorr's text, 7) completed the title of Fowler's text (the end was missing). I'm puzzled by the price in pounds for an oufit based in New Mexico (perhaps is my geography of the UK a bit rusted), can you confirm it? (the pb seems to cost $12.95, I've entered this price). The result is here. Thanks for contributing but it may interesting that you have a look at the Help pages and make perhaps separate and more "polished" submissions to achieve your goals.
