Question about "The Mysterious Stranger"
 +
 +
In an anthology you verified, The Penguin Book of Vampire Stories, there's a story called "The Mysterious Stranger" which has the date in the database of 1823. Now, the editor of Dracula's Precursors says that this story was "originally published in German in 1823 and translated into English soon after" and Michael Sims, editor of Dracula's Guest, says it was first published in English in 1860. If this is true, then the story should have the date of 1860 in the database (and should be merged with this record). By the way, according to Douglas A. Anderson, this story is a translation of Karl von Wachsmann's "Der Fremde", whose earliest known publication date is 1844, but that doesn't affect the question of its earliest publication in English.
 +
 +
Anyhow, my point is, could you take a look at Vampire Stories and see if it gives any reason to think this story was published in English earlier than 1860? After I collect replies from other verifiers, I'll either merge these records or not. Thanks! --Vasha 18:54, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

"Martyr Without Canon" title type + original publishing info change
 +
 +
Hi.  This affects your (and Don Erickson's) verified 50784.  I will leave this same note for Don.
 +
 +
I accepted a submission changing 887719 from short story to poem and removing the note about original publication in The Horror Show, Winter 1987.  The editor's submission stated the note was in error and that the original publication was in Grue #4 (still 1987).
 +
 +
I did a little research and could not find anything definitive, but Homeville/Locus do list it as a poem in that anthology and cite Grue #4 as the original publication, and I found some secondary review references also describing it as a poem.  So I decided to go ahead and accept the change.  I also replaced the note about the original publication source in the title record.

If you see this, please check if that's correct (and I apologize if it's not) -- we don't have an active primary verifier.  Thanks.  --MartyD 12:44, 1 January 2021 (EST)

Cemetery Dance #58, , has tributes to Grant by various authors and 1 of them is listed as by Hank Wanger on ISFDB. Hi, Note to Moderators from this submisison says For what it's worth, the novel also includes a variation of the short "Faustfeathers" by Kessel. Perhaps that should be included as well. (no idea whether the editor refers to all editions, or a specific one). As you are an active primary verifier, could you have a look and add it if relevant? :Since an early version of the story appears in the novel, I have no problem with a note about it at the novel's title level. I was entering a publication and didn't know what to do with Introduction and Editor's Note. Looking through other publications, I see some have included the already created section, Introduction. But no one had made a section out of Editor's Note. When seeing your publication I noticed a curious note: "There is a four-page "Editor's Note" starting on page ix which is an authorial conceit and considered part of the novel which is titled after the note as The Confessions of Howard W. Campbell, Jr..". Did you write that? Is Mother Night supposed to start from the page of the Editor's Note? --Spacecow 03:57, 29 October 2021 (EDT)

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?339851; Since Razorblade was a British company and prices on their back covers list British prices first, should I enter British price as mentioned in your note instead of USA price?  +

:I entered the price that was given first, as stated in the notes. And since Razorblade was published in Prague, not the UK, I believe I was correct in the way the record was entered. Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact the few other verifiers of other publications from this publisher to confirm that the prices they have given conform to the same pattern as the one in my verified record. :: Interesting, because another book by them that I entered the price for recently had the UK price first (); also, the other 2 PV'd books have the British price; yours is the only PV'd book that has the American price. :::::: OK, but since the currency in Czechoslovakia is the crown and the only prices on the books are British pounds or American dollars and the people involved with publishing and writing all the books seem to be exclusively British it stands to reason that the British price would be the predominant one. I was told by a mod to discuss my change with PV, so that's what I did; if you don't agree with the change, fine. On a side note, the previous message on your board was also by me, and there's 1 other from February, so when you have the time if you could check those and let me know if my changes were correct that would be great. ::::::: Since the Czech currency wasn't printed on the book, I find your statement to be irrelevant. :: Since I've had countless people leave messages on my talk page I doubt anyone's had a problem reaching me if they need to; perhaps the problem is several months ago when 1 of the many disturbed people editing here decided to hack my page with an insulting message, for which they were warned by moderators and told not to do it again, after which a mod locked that section of my page so no one could hack it again. Also, since the title "Shogun's Welcome" was entered incorrectly by you, and very likely the Hank Wagner name I asked you about nearly a year ago, the problem is not that I'm making unnecessary changes to your work but rather fixing it for you. Coincidentally, I did some minor stuff today for a couple of records you worked on, and your editing dates went back nearly 15 years, so it's not like you're a relative newcomer like me. The Razorblade issue is a matter of semantics re: how best to enter prices, but the other stuff were just flat-out mistakes. If you and the many others who complain had entered these things correctly in the first place I wouldn't need to talk to you about them. --Username 17:09, 12 December 2021 (EST)

You should have the courtesy to follow the notification instructions that your fellow editors have asked at the top of their talk pages.  (BTW, have you ever actually clicked on your name in the posts you've made in these wiki pages? Hi, you're a PV on this, I have a question - there's an upcoming book which in the UK at least is promoted as the third in a trilogy (see also Goodreads).  Do you have any objection to making this the first part of a new "Gwendy's Button Box" series, and making that a subseries of the current "Castle Rock" series?

I haven't read any King for about ~30 years, and have only the vaguest awareness of how his works inter-relate, so I'm wary of wading into things I don't fully understand.  I'll contact other PVs for their opinion.  Thanks ErsatzCulture 18:46, 24 January 2022 (EST)

Hello, Michael! The entry already states "A rough word count makes it 25,000 words." and guesses that it's really not a novel. http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?283720; I recently discovered a photo of the original Pan edition of New Terrors 2 which showed the title page says New Terrors Two, so title and cover art/intro were changed to reflect that; however, the zine linked above has a review of New Terrors 2. Does it say that in your PV copy? Also, there's a review of New Terrors 1, but there is no such title; Pan and Pocket editions were just New Terrors on their title pages, while Pocket edition of the second volume was New Terrors II. It's likely this American magazine reviewed the American editions, in which case the reviews should be linked to those specific editions, I think. --Username 19:37, 12 April 2022 (EDT)

:Reviews are linked to title records, not publication records. It is not possible to link a review to any specific edition of a book. In this case, the reviewer wanted to differentiate the two volumes by numbering each, even though the actual book doesn't have that number.  I entered the title as it is stated in the publication, and then manually linked the review record to the title record of the title being reviewed.  Mhhutchins|talk 04:00, 2 May 2022 (EDT)

In the Afterword to In War Times Goonan says that her father, Thomas E. Goonan, wrote the sections of the book that appear as Sam's narratives.  These make up a significant portion of the book.  She also credits him in the Acknowledgments.  As PV, do you think that he should be given co-author credit?  Just mentioned in the notes?Jim (talk) 18:54, 19 November 2022 (EST)

:: The ISFDB policy hasn't changed, so the way the author is credited in the publication record and in the title record should remain as it is now, i.e. "Kathleen Ann Goonan".
 +
 +
:: Whether we then turn that title record into a variant of a "Kathleen Ann Goonan and Thomas E. Goonan" title record depends on the scope of Thomas E. Goonan's contributions to the novel. When dealing with relatively minor contributions, we simply make a note in the title record and don't create a variant, e.g. see Edmond Hamilton's The Valley of Creation, which says "three chapters of this novel were written by Leigh Brackett" but doesn't credit Brackett otherwise. On the other hand, we turned Clifford D. Simak's Empire into a variant when we discovered that it was a rewrite of a John W. Campbell, Jr. early novel. So it's all about the extent of the uncredited co-author's contributions, although we don't have more specific guidelines. A quick note to let you know that publisher records "Baen Fantasy" and "Baen Science Fiction Books" are in the process of being converted to publication series under "Baen Books" as per the outcome of this Rules and Standards discussion. This will affect one or more of your primary-verified publications. The only affected fields will be "Publisher" and "Publication Series". Alfred Hitchcock Presents Stories To Be Read with the Door Locked

I guess you're leaving the site, if so, good luck on your further endeavors. Anyway, I added an image and some notes to this book. Again, good luck. MLB 08:38, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Question about "The Mysterious Stranger"

Nemonymous Night

A quick note about this submission, which you created on 2019-04-29. The ISBN is already in the database with the same data that the submission would have added. Since the submission has been in the queue for 3 weeks and the data is already on file, I have hard-rejected it. Ahasuerus 14:03, 19 May 2019 (EDT)

The system duplicated my single submission (look at the numbers), and I only accepted one. I didn't think it was necessary to go to the moderator queue to see if there were duplicates. Mhhutchins|talk 13:30, 20 May 2019 (EDT)

"Martyr Without Canon" title type + original publishing info change

Hi. This affects your (and Don Erickson's) verified The Year's Best Horror Stories: XVI. I will leave this same note for Don.

I accepted a submission changing Martyr Without Canon from short story to poem and removing the note about original publication in The Horror Show, Winter 1987. The editor's submission stated the note was in error and that the original publication was in Grue #4 (still 1987).

It's a narrative poem, so it could be considered either a story or poem. I'm fine with its entry as a poem. Mhhutchins|talk 19:44, 12 February 2021 (EST)

Cemetery Dance #58, [2], has tributes to Grant by various authors and 1 of them is listed as by Hank Wanger on ISFDB. Is it misspelled inside the magazine, or should it be changed to Wagner? --Username 23:54, 9 February 2021 (EST)

Freedom Beach

Hi, Note to Moderators from this submisison says For what it's worth, the novel also includes a variation of the short "Faustfeathers" by Kessel. Perhaps that should be included as well. (no idea whether the editor refers to all editions, or a specific one). As you are an active primary verifier, could you have a look and add it if relevant? (I'll leave a note on Dirk & Markwood's talk pages as well) Thanks! MagicUnk 14:08, 1 September 2021 (EDT)

Since an early version of the story appears in the novel, I have no problem with a note about it at the novel's title level. It wouldn't be necessary to note it at the publication level since it probably appears in all publications of the novel. Mhhutchins|talk 02:14, 6 September 2021 (EDT)

Mother Night

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?267431

I very likely wrote that note, so the "novel" actually starts on the page which the "editor's note" appears. Mhhutchins|talk 02:18, 5 November 2021 (EDT)

Razorblade

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?339851; Since Razorblade was a British company and prices on their back covers list British prices first, should I enter British price as mentioned in your note instead of USA price? I'm trying to make all books by them consistent with regards to price. --Username 12:07, 11 December 2021 (EST)

I entered the price that was given first, as stated in the notes. And since Razorblade was published in Prague, not the UK, I believe I was correct in the way the record was entered. Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact the few other verifiers of other publications from this publisher to confirm that the prices they have given conform to the same pattern as the one in my verified record. Mhhutchins|talk 15:44, 11 December 2021 (EST)
Interesting, because another book by them that I entered the price for recently had the UK price first ([3]); also, the other 2 PV'd books have the British price; yours is the only PV'd book that has the American price. But if you say that's the way it is on your copy then I guess it's so. While it's true they printed the books overseas, all the authors and the owner of Razorblade are from the U.K. --Username 16:16, 11 December 2021 (EST)
Actually, according to the copyright page in my book, it is bound and printed in the UK, but is published in Prague. (Where the authors and owner reside are irrelevant.) Mhhutchins|talk 19:39, 11 December 2021 (EST)
Percolatedstars.jpg
Here's the price printed on the back of my copy of the book. (BTW, you should change your signature so that your username is identified. Thanks.) Mhhutchins|talk 19:45, 11 December 2021 (EST)
OK, but since the currency in Czechoslovakia is the crown and the only prices on the books are British pounds or American dollars and the people involved with publishing and writing all the books seem to be exclusively British it stands to reason that the British price would be the predominant one. I was told by a mod to discuss my change with PV, so that's what I did; if you don't agree with the change, fine. On a side note, the previous message on your board was also by me, and there's 1 other from February, so when you have the time if you could check those and let me know if my changes were correct that would be great. P.S. Brackets around jpeg's prevent them from showing up as giant images. --Username 20:00, 11 December 2021 (EST)
Since the Czech currency wasn't printed on the book, I find your statement to be irrelevant. In the past, it was ISFDB policy to record the first price when two or more are printed on the book. If that policy has changed, please link to the documentation. About the above image, I wanted it to show on this page rather than linking to it.
You still haven't identified yourself, so I have no idea who you are. But I must request that you not make changes on verified records until I've had a chance to respond to them. Again, that used to be ISFDB policy, which may have changed since the time I was active here. Also, please read the statement at the top of this page concerning notifying me of changes to records I have verified. I come here too seldom to respond timely to questions. Otherwise, they may sit here for months. That's why I didn't respond to your February post. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 22:06, 11 December 2021 (EST)

My username IS Username; 8 letters, easy to remember. I've been 1 of the biggest contributors here for almost exactly a year now, which happened to coincide with your long absence. I've had problems with several editors and moderators because I dare to disagree with them, and from our conversations today I only see trouble ahead, so in the future I won't bother you and if I change anything for something PV'd by you I'll just cancel it and move on to something else. Bye. --Username 22:17, 11 December 2021 (EST)

Since you chose for your username to be Username, you've created a problem, because clicking on your "username" doesn't go to your talk page as it should. Things would have gone much more smoothly if you'd simply followed the request at the top of my talk page. If you've had problems with other editors and moderators in your short experience here, you might consider the problem may caused by you instead of them. Thanks for deciding not to attempt any changes in my verified records. That will be great for us both. Mhhutchins|talk 16:06, 12 December 2021 (EST)
Since I've had countless people leave messages on my talk page I doubt anyone's had a problem reaching me if they need to; perhaps the problem is several months ago when 1 of the many disturbed people editing here decided to hack my page with an insulting message, for which they were warned by moderators and told not to do it again, after which a mod locked that section of my page so no one could hack it again.
We all make mistakes. I've made almost 350,000 submissions to this database, each of them containing dozens of entries, and thousands of characters. I have moderated more than a half-million submissions as well. Even if I made 1000 mistakes, it would be infinitesimally small compared to what I've done for this database, along with the thousands of hours that I worked to build it. I will ask you one last time to follow ISFDB standards and not make any submission to change a primary verified record. You should have the courtesy to follow the notification instructions that your fellow editors have asked at the top of their talk pages. (BTW, have you ever actually clicked on your name in the posts you've made in these wiki pages? If you had, you'd quickly discover it doesn't lead to your talk page, as it properly should if you're using a proper username.) Mhhutchins|talk 22:14, 13 December 2021 (EST)
Just a quick note - clicking on one’s name Leads to their user page. It looks weird for Username’s page because another editor posted on it once and the page was deleted as opposed to edited but that has nothing to do with what their name is. The Discussion link up on the top still leads to their Talk page. Annie 23:13, 13 December 2021 (EST)
When I click on your name, Annie, it leads me to your page where I can click on "Discuss this page". I can't do that with the person with the username Username. Try it. In any case, I wish they would just accept my response and move on instead of harassing me because they didn't like how I responded. I don't have time for such nonsense. That's one of the reasons I shut down this page to begin with. At least through email people tend to be more mature. Mhhutchins|talk 00:00, 14 December 2021 (EST)
I did try it - now again to make sure I am not wrong but also repeatedly before that while moderating their submissions. The Discussion link is up at the top albeit looking half-hidden or look so because of how the page looks under it. look on top of the “Editing User:Username” page. There are “user”, “discussion”, “edit” and undelete links. Would not have posted if I had not tried - it is just the way wiki looks under this specific way of page deletion. :) As for the rest - Username had been warned repeatedly about the same thing by pretty much anyone that had ever worked with them. No much effect I am afraid. Anyway - was just trying to assist with the technical side of the issue :) Annie 01:24, 14 December 2021 (EST)
Username.JPG
This is what I get when I click on the name. As you can see there is no option to talk this user, as there is no link to their talk page. Maybe I'm using a different skin than you, so the options are different as well. Mhhutchins|talk 00:48, 15 December 2021 (EST)
The displayed skin looks like "Cologne Blue". I tested it a couple of minutes ago and it looks like it hides a number of standard links on empty User pages. Could you please temporarily change your settings to the default ("MonoBook") skin to see if it fixes the problem? The top row should display the following tabs:
 • User page Discussion Edit Undelete 2 edits Protect (Un)Watch
Ahasuerus
I changed my skin, and the tabs did appear. Even though there's a "Discussion" tab, the link directly to that person's page still prompts me to the edit page. Perhaps the bug for my preferred skin can be fixed, since I don't expect that person to change their username to something less generic. Mhhutchins|talk 21:18, 13 January 2022 (EST)

Gwendy's Button Box - subseries of Castle Rock?

Poul Anderson's The Year of the Ransom

Hello, Michael! The entry already states "A rough word count makes it 25,000 words." and guesses that it's really not a novel. I don't know who entered this, but I guess that makes the text a novella, and the publication a CHAPBOOK. I'd like to adapt this accordingly. Do you have any other information about this? New Terrors Titles

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?283720; I recently discovered a photo of the original Pan edition of New Terrors 2 which showed the title page says New Terrors Two, so title and cover art/intro were changed to reflect that; however, the zine linked above has a review of New Terrors 2.

Reviews are linked to title records, not publication records.

Lucius S.

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?61498; There's a Lucius Sorrentino on ISFDB, and Philsp.com says the same for this issue, so is Sorrentinio a typo that should be fixed? --Username 18:12, 14 August 2022 (EDT)

Dark At Heart

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?8766; I added OL ID link to Archive copy, added FantLab ID since it includes several photos including 1 signed and with a doodle by William F. Nolan, added a note about the cover artist also being credited on the copyright page, and replaced the unstable 'G' Amazon image with FantLab's cover image. --Username 10:50, 17 August 2022 (EDT)

In War Times

In the Afterword to In War Times Goonan says that her father, Thomas E. Goonan, wrote the sections of the book that appear as Sam's narratives. These make up a significant portion of the book. She also credits him in the Acknowledgments. As PV, do you think that he should be given co-author credit? Just mentioned in the notes?Jim (talk) 18:54, 19 November 2022 (EST)

It is ISFDB policy to credit records based on those given in the actual book. Unless that policy has changed since my last log-in, I think the record should remain credited as it is. Mhhutchins|talk 17:18, 3 February 2023 (EST)
The ISFDB policy hasn't changed, so the way the author is credited in the publication record and in the title record should remain as it is now, i.e. "Kathleen Ann Goonan".
Whether we then turn that title record into a variant of a "Kathleen Ann Goonan and Thomas E. Ahasuerus (talk) 09:19, 4 February 2023 (EST)
Yeah, and there's (among many others) the case of Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore where various credits and real authorships do exist. So, if Thomas E. Goonan's portions do make up a significant portion of the text, IMO there should be a parent crediting both authors. Christian Stonecreek (talk) 11:36, 4 February 2023 (EST)
As long as the publication record which I verified remains credited as published, the creation of a variant title record is entirely out of my hands. Mhhutchins|talk 22:32, 7 February 2023 (EST)

Walter Tevis / Mockingbird

I am editing and PVing Mockingbird and propose to change the price to $10.00 and add the pub note: "Another PVd copy has a printed price of $10.00, no price-clipping and no publisher's sticker". Teallach (talk) 17:58, 20 February 2023 (EST)

SH Through Time and Space

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?179093; I added Archive.org link to HC but TP link says $8.95 on back, not $9.95. Was that a mistake or does it really say 9 on your copy? --Username (talk) 12:47, 3 March 2023 (EST)

My copy of the TP clearly gives the publication price as $9.95. Mhhutchins|talk 19:16, 18 May 2023 (EDT)

Other Arms Reach Out To Me

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?607992; Archive.org scan added recently so I added a link in a pending edit; The subtitle "Georgia Stories" isn't on the title page so shouldn't really be part of the title here and the publisher is an imprint of Fairwood Press and should probably be entered the same way as their other imprint on ISFDB, https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/publisher.cgi?41760. P.S. I also added a link to the scan of Time Pieces by the same author. EDIT: I see there's a dozen other Kudzu Planet books on ISFDB and there's a note about it being an imprint so whether making them all published by Kudzu Planet Productions / Fairwood Press is entirely up to you; I assume you PV most or all of them. --Username (talk) 10:55, 3 May 2023 (EDT)

My copy clearly states "Georgia Stories" as a subtitle on the title page. Also, I've entered the publisher credit as given on the title pages and spines of the books published by Kudzu Planet Productions. Fairwood Press is only credited on the copyright page, and I've provided that information in my notes. Mhhutchins|talk 18:47, 18 May 2023 (EDT)

Susan Casper Essay Title

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?500111; Archive.org copy of the trade edition of this collection was just uploaded so I added a link in a pending edit, noticed this essay's title looked wrong, it was, I fixed it in another edit, on the slim possibility that your PV of the expensive edition says "Kind" let us know and then it will be a variant. --Username (talk) 12:25, 10 May 2023 (EDT)

My copy clearly gives the titles as "New Kid on the Bock" on both the contents page and the title page of the essay. So please stop making "corrections" based on non-primary sources. Mhhutchins|talk 19:00, 18 May 2023 (EDT)
I'm not sure what's going on but I see you just made an edit and fixed the title. So were you wrong about your copy? Should I cancel my title change now? --Username (talk) 19:46, 18 May 2023 (EDT)

Orbit 18

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5664649; I added an Archive.org link and a few other things but LCCN in the note is wrong, it's 75-25089, in case you can check your copy and fix it if it's the same. --Username (talk) 08:41, 14 May 2023 (EDT)

I accepted your submission and corrected the LCCN. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 19:14, 18 May 2023 (EDT)

Raising the Stones HC

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5685244; After adding link I noticed the note says there's a number line but there isn't anything in the quotes, possibly because there isn't actually a number line in the book, so if it's your note you may want to remove that part assuming your copy doesn't have a number line, either; search of Google Books copy's copyright page doesn't seem to show a number line, either. Also, part of note that says "Locus1 states this the" should probably be "Locus1 states that the". --Username (talk) 13:22, 6 June 2023 (EDT)

Howard Who?

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5690989; While adding Archive.org link I also fixed cover month because it was entered differently from book month for some reason and also replaced cover because it's a "G" unstable image; SFE cover looks the same except a little brighter. --Username (talk) 19:41, 12 June 2023 (EDT)

Agent of Chaos

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?1813; I added Archive.org link in a PENDING edit and noticed the notes say ISBN is not inside the book; it is in this copy, on the copyright page. Does your copy really not have it there or did you miss it? If it's there, you may want to amend the note. --Username (talk) 19:01, 20 June 2023 (EDT)

I missed the ISBN, and have edited the record. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 00:40, 3 July 2023 (EDT)

Not Quite Atlantis

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?364418; I have a PENDING edit adding Archive.org link, FantLab ID, and new cover from FantLab which looks almost the same, just a bit less faded and a bit more info on the left side. --Username (talk) 00:55, 24 June 2023 (EDT)

Three Tales of Horror

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?77368; While adding Archive.org link I fixed page count to 58. EDIT: While adding links to several other Penguin 60s books there was one with an unstable Amazon image, https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?5133, so you may want to replace it. Amazon doesn't seem to have a current image; ISBN leads to another edition with a different cover. --Username (talk) 19:52, 12 July 2023 (EDT)

New Dimensions 6

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?23723; I added Archive.org link in a PENDING edit, Roman numerals were not entered, vi is the last one but intro, which also wasn't entered, is right after, so maybe vii? In case you can decide and add those to page count and maybe add the intro, too. --Username (talk) 00:28, 19 July 2023 (EDT)

Deserted Cities of the Heart

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?9946; I was adding a whole bunch of links to Lewis Shiner books today and even though the HC of Deserted... says previewable on Open Library there's no Archive.org link but the actual copy is on Archive.org. While adding the link I noticed that you entered month as June from Locus even though your notes (and the archived copy) say 0888. So going by ISFDB rules that say what's in the book counts shouldn't the month be changed to August? That's also what the proof copy says; [6]. --Username (talk) 09:37, 10 August 2023 (EDT)

Hello, Michael! I do assume it's a typo for this author featured in 'Locus #637' (2014) , and really should read 'Russell Letson', but it seems better to look it up. Christian Stonecreek (talk) 12:35, 7 September 2023 (EDT)

Thirty Tributes To Calvino

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?1602172; This page, http://rhysaurus.blogspot.com/2015/02/, says the e-book doesn't include the story "The Broom Cupboard of Crossed Destinies" because of formatting issues so it was replaced by another story but contents on ISFDB for both editions include that story. --Username (talk) 16:52, 18 September 2023 (EDT)

Wicker Man

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?190801; When adding Wiki link to the novel's title record I noticed it said Crown edition was May 1978; if you can verify that you may want to add the month to your PV. --Username (talk) 23:29, 6 October 2023 (EDT)

Liza Goren (Groen) Trombi

Hi, Liza Goren Trombi exists with a single title, from the May 2013 issue of Locus that you PVed just over a decade ago. I assume it was a data entry typo here, but I just thought I'd mention it in case you've still got easy access to the issue to see if it was genuinely a typo in the mag? Thanks ErsatzCulture (talk) 09:50, 7 October 2023 (EDT)

The Fantasy Worlds of Peter Beagle

Please see this conversation regarding your verified The Fantasy Worlds of Peter Beagle. The pub author is Peter Beagle, but the contents are Peter S. Beagle. I see you added the note that states "Although the cover and title page credit Peter Beagle, the verifier of this record has chosen to retain the canonical name, Peter S. Beagle, as the author of the contents", but this is contrary to ISFDB standards. Please let us know the reason for keeping the initial. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:14, 22 October 2023 (EDT)

The Dark Half Book Club Edition

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?37904; While adding an Archive.org link (one of those no-preview copies that only link from Open Library) I noticed page count here is wrong, 413 instead of 431. Your notes say it's identical to the trade edition which is also 431 so I assume 413 was just a mistake, right? --Username (talk) 11:46, 4 December 2023 (EST)

Splendid Chaos

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?1181; I added 2 Archive.org links (one from 2011, one from 2023) in a PENDING edit. Page count should be 359 because last numbered page is 357 followed by a blank page and then the unnumbered 1-page epilogue. Someone here made it 357+[2] for the Mandarin edition so maybe that is good, too. Up to you. LOC says 357 so they didn't even notice the epilogue. --Username (talk) 20:05, 14 December 2023 (EST)

Carol Re(s)nick

Hello Michael! My best guess is that it is really Mike Resnick's wife Carol Resnick here. The question to solve is if it is a typo or a miscredit. Do you have access to this issue? Greetings, Christian Stonecreek (talk) 09:40, 24 January 2024 (EST)

Theodore Sturgeon / Killdozer!

I am editing and PVing Killdozer! and propose to 1) Change cover artist to name credited in pub to comply with standards, i.e. Paul Orban (in error 2) and make this an alternate name of William Timmins 2) change title of "Poor Yorick!" to "Poor Yorick" (removing exclamation mark) 3) change title of "August Sixth, 1945" to "August Sixth 1945" (removing comma). Will also do the necessary varianting and add pub notes. Teallach (talk) 17:03, 12 March 2024 (EDT)

Changes to "Baen Fantasy" and "Baen Science Fiction Books"

A quick note to let you know that publisher records "Baen Fantasy" and "Baen Science Fiction Books" are in the process of being converted to publication series under "Baen Books" as per the outcome of this Rules and Standards discussion.
