Thank you, Annie. You would not believe how long it took me to remember how to post messages on my own talk page. I had to remember that the discussion pages need a separate login from the isfdb pages. [[User:Main|Main]] 23:40, 4 February 2021 (EST)

Welcome!

Hello, Main, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Hauck 13:45, 26 August 2017 (EDT)

New Myths, Issue #1

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. As per our ROA we usually do not index stories published in webzines, except if 1) the webzine is downloadable as electronic file in any number of ebook formats (ePub, Mobi, PDF, etc), 2) publication in the webzine makes the author eligible for SFWA membership or 3) the work has been shortlisted for a major award. Can you confirm that your intended addition meets these criteria (the first two will allow the whole of the issue to be entered, the third will only allow the inclusion of the shortlisted texts). Thanks. Hauck 13:53, 26 August 2017 (EDT)

New Myths #1

Thanks, Hervé. I don't think that New Myths meets the criteria, so I will cancel my submission. Maybe I'll find something else to catalog soon. Main 14:18, 26 August 2017 (EDT)

Thanks for the information, we'll be waiting for your next submissions. Hauck 15:17, 26 August 2017 (EDT)

The Man Who Sold the Moon

I have accepted your edits to The Man Who Sold the Moon and made the additional changes indicated in your notes. As you indicate you have the publication, please consider verifying it and adding a cover image (see instructions provided in the welcome message for both). Feel free to expand the publication notes as well (might want to check out other verified pubs for examples, but not required). If you have any questions, please let us know (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 16:52, 5 September 2017 (EDT)

There are two steps to adding a cover image. After you have uploaded it to the wiki, you need to add the link to the image (go to the image's wiki page and click on the image itself - that will give you a link with just the image) to the publication record. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:57, 5 September 2017 (EDT)

Many thanks for your help with my revisions to the record. I have linked in the image now! Main 19:06, 5 September 2017 (EDT)

Working languages ...

... have in fact to be assigned manually. We decided for that somewhat torterous way because it is not trivial to assign it (though in some cases it's easier than with others). Thanks for the addition, Stonecreek 09:03, 11 September 2017 (EDT)

The Golden Years of "Astounding"

Hello, as the PV of the book, I've been able to confirm the rightness of your proposed change and have approved it. Please note that it's useless to submit the same edit twice and that, in such cases where the publication is Primary Verified by someone, you should discuss the change with him/her. Thanks for finding this error. Hauck 10:59, 4 February 2018 (EST)

Thank you, Hervé. I didn't know about the PV field, so I will look for that in any future requests for revisions. Also, sorry about the double submission. I didn't realize that the submission had actually occurred when I first hit the submit button. Instead, I thought that it was giving me a preview of the submission (like on Wikipedia). So I hit the back button, added some additional information, and hit submit again. That was when I realized that I'd submitted it twice. The pages are clear enough, but I'm just inexperienced.

Thanks again. Main 11:21, 4 February 2018 (EST)

El anacronópete: Viaje á China - Metempsícosis

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make some changes to conform to our standards:

  • changed type to OMNIBUS (as it contains one separately published NOVEL).
  • merged the novel with the already existing record.
  • somewhat cleaned the note field.
  • added INTERIORART record.
  • uploaded a scan.

The result is here, don't hesitate to correct my spelling (there is probably an accent in Gomez) and add any missing data (e.g. the cover artist or a price). Thanks for contributing. Hauck 11:15, 20 February 2018 (EST)

The Runaway Robot

I have had to reject your addition of interior art to the The Runaway Robot publications. One of the publications you edited has been primary verified by two editors and neither entered an interior art record. If you want to double check they just didn't miss it, you can leave a message for Don Erikson as he is an active participant. However, based on the current verification it seems likely this edition was also published without artwork. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:58, 21 February 2018 (EST)

Many thanks, JLaTondre. I will send a message to Don. Main 19:24, 21 February 2018 (EST)

Thanks. When leaving messages though, please be sure you are leaving them on the User talk: page and not the User: page. I moved the message for Don for you. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:52, 21 February 2018 (EST)

The Man who was Magic: A Fable of Innocence

I accepted your edit to The Man who was Magic: A Fable of Innocence. Since your moderator note states you have a copy, please consider verifying it. If you verify a pub before submitting an edit, we will see the the verification status when processing the edit. We do appreciate your submissions. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:55, 21 February 2018 (EST)

Many thanks for the info on how to verify, JLaTondre! Main 20:06, 21 February 2018 (EST)

NewMyths

Hi, that's quite a list you're submitting, with quite some wishes too: Note to Moderator: Hello.

1. Please correct the name of the artist for the interior art ("Rusted Tin Man") from "Cartwright" to "Steve Cartwright". This interior art is a smaller version of the image that is used at the top of the webzine's landing page.
That shouldn't be a problem
2. Please delete the incorrectly created author record for "Cartwright".
Happens automatically when there's no title/publication for the author record
3. Please let me know how you decide to handle the image that appears twice on the webzine's landing page, so that I can submit consistent changes to the existing (inconsistent) publication records. One approach is to list it as a cover image with the title "Rusted Tin Man" and as an interior image with the same title. I would not indent the listing for the interior image, because it is not part of the poem, "The Sepultress". Another approach is to list it as interior art, either once or twice. You may wish to examine the layout at https://sites.google.com/a/newmyths.com/nmwebsite/past-issues/2007/issue-1
I'll make it one cover art and one general interior art
4. If possible, please adjust the indentation on the listing the review (The Lord of the Rings). On the publication record -- http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?677134 -- it should not be indented under "Man in the Mountain". An alternative is to add the review column itself as an essay by Ahmed A. Khan, and the insert The Lord of the Rings review under it. If you choose this option, the title at the top of the review column is "The Magic of the Rings is Tempermental". Thank you. Seeing how you handle this record will aid me in creating future records. All good things, Michael
Now there's the knack. Indenting happens for all items such as interior art, reviews and interviews, if I am not mistaken. Indenting thus doesn't mean a connection to the line above per se.--Dirk P Broer 22:06, 17 August 2018 (EDT)
I hope everything is to your wishes now.--Dirk P Broer 22:37, 17 August 2018 (EDT)

Many thanks, Dirk, for your work and for your kind words. This helps me to understand how to make the indexing consistent for New Myths. All good things, Michael Main 07:23, 18 August 2018 (MDT)

Editor record

Hi, you followed the correct course of action, there's no way to create an editor record before there is content AFAIK.--Dirk P Broer 12:29, 2 September 2018 (EDT)

L'âge d'or de la science-fiction

I broke the variant based on your note here. Instead of sending a note in an empty submission, you can do either of following:

  • Just submit the breaking of the variant with your explanation in the Moderator note (you do that by submitting a variant with a Parent ID of 0)
  • Post on Community so someone can check and do the breaking :)

Thanks for finding this one. :) Annie 12:26, 4 February 2021 (EST)
