Welcome!

Hello, Lidenbrock, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! MagicUnk 16:03, 2 September 2021 (EDT)

El metal de la Luna author credit

Hi, and welcome! I have your El metal de la Luna submission on hold, because I have a question about the author credit. Your submission lists the author as:

Garrett P. Serviss

but the cover and what Amazon's Look Inside shows me for the title page both seem to have "G. P. Serviss" instead. How is his name given in your copy of the book? We use the credit as given. To get it into the Garrett P. Serviss bibliography, we would make G. P. Serviss an "alternate name", once the record is created. Let me know, and I will make any corrections or changes when I accept the submission.

Also, for the Image URL, we use a link to the cover image (for example, https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/415deCATe3S.jpg), not a link to the Amazon page for the book (https://www.amazon.es/El-metal-Luna-Ciencia-ficci%C3%B3n/dp/B093B8H7Z3). I will change this when I accept the submission. Just something to keep in mind for future submissions.

Let me know about the author credit. Reply here by editing this section. Indent your reply by adding a colon (":") to the beginning of the text. We do that to keep conversations all in one place.

Thanks. Again, welcome, and thank you for contributing! --MartyD 08:29, 5 September 2021 (EDT)

Hi. Since I did not hear back from you, I accepted your submission and changed the author credit to "G. P. Serviss" and then made variants. I also fixed up the cover image URL and changed the format from pb to tp based on the size from Amazon. Also, our treatment of the original English The Moon Metal considered this to be shortfiction (a novella) and the book-form publication a CHAPBOOK, so I converted this Spanish version to the same treatment. You can see the final result here (please double-check this, as you are listed as verifier) and here. If you have any questions or think anything is incorrect, please ask or submit corrections. Thanks. --MartyD 14:08, 14 September 2021 (EDT)
Thank you, MartyD. Sorry, I did not notice you answered in time!

Edison conquista Marte

Unfortunately, I have had to reject this submission. The ISFDB is a publication based database. So instead of creating a variant title without a publication, please use the "Add New Novel" option and enter the publication information (see the "Field-by-field guide to entering new publications into the database" in the welcome message above). Once approved, the new novel title record would be varianted to the English novel title record. Please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:56, 1 January 2022 (EST)

Thank you, I will use "Add New Novel".
As a follow-up, your new submission here has quite a few issues:
  • Synopsis must always be in English - I have removed it. If you want to add a synopsis, translate and submit it.
  • Publication URL's should not be on title level, but on publication level. In addition, we do not add Amazon URLs. Instead, we use the ASIN in the External ID field.
  • The translator must be added to the title's note field
  • Price needs a currency symbol - it is not clear where it's coming from, so I've removed that as well. Note that you should not use Amazon prices as these are not the recommended nor list prices for the book.
  • Using an Amazon URL, make sure to remove the formatting from the URL (the _SX331_BO1,204,203,200_ stuff)
  • You MUST add a note to clarify where you got the information from. I've added the statement "Date from Amazon ES as of 2022-01-13".
  • External ID's are numerical. For the Goodreads ID, select the numerical part of the URL
I've corrected all these errors, and while I was at it, I've also varianted the Spanish title to the English original. The result is here.
One remaining question for you: how is the author's name spelled on the title page? Is it written as "G.P. Serviss" like on the cover, or as "Garrett P. Serviss"? Cheers MagicUnk 15:50, 13 January 2022 (EST)
In the cover of the book the name is spelled as "G.P. Serviss" and not "Garrett P. Serviss", but it is a matter of space in the line, mainly.
