Hi, I added notes and the Author's Note to your verified pub.s for this. Christian [[User:Stonecreek|Stonecreek]] 09:00, 1 September 2021 (EDT)

Revision as of 09:00, 1 September 2021

  • If you've added Cover Art or Notes to any of my Verified Pubs, please click HERE and add it to the bottom of the list with a link to the pub record. I'll remove your note from the list, once I've reviewed the change (but if you've also done a primary verification on the same pub record, just go ahead and do it without a note).
  • If you've added a publication to a publication series, just go ahead and do it without a note.
  • If you've made changes in any other field of the verified record, whether it is a pub you've verified or not, please post a message on this page.

Thanks - Kevin

1634: The Ram Rebellion

I would like to add several items to the contents of http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?82092 1634: The Ram Rebellion. The primary verifier is no longer active, you're the secondary. The items to be added include two maps, a cast of characters, a preface and part numbers and titles. Bob 02:01, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome to take a stab at it. I've got no issues with maps, lists, etc being added to the contents. Kevin 14:47, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Warlord

I added to the notes for http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?53847 The Warlord: LCCN, words from the copyright page, where the artist is credited. I would also like to see added content - map (The Forge), battle maps (both novels), appendix (The Hammer). Bob 16:03, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Conqueror

Like Warlord above, I added similar text to the notes for http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?7882 Conqueror. And like Warlord, I'd like to see similar added content. Bob 16:08, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Queen of Demons

I added the LCCN and where artists are credited to the notes for http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?27108 Queen of Demons. I also added to the content: the endpapers and Author's Note. Bob 22:45, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Pirates of Venus

I added the publication month to Burroughs' Pirates of Venus with a note as to its source. I also linked the Worldcat record. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 12:34, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

At the Earth's Core

I added a publication month to Burroughs' At the Earth's Core, and a not as to its source. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 12:42, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Primate in Forest (From Chapter One: Fifty Degrees Below)

See discussion about this excerpt here. Any thoughts? Albinoflea 05:04, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

I've checked my book and confirmed the record currently in the database is correct, using the 'Title page trumps all others' general rule. However, If you put a note in the short story record, and also in both publications it appears in, documenting that we've done something different, and what we've done (namely dropped a complex subtitle) I'm okay with it. The key thing is it needs to be documented in both the short story and the publication records. - Cheers Kevin 02:02, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
OK, I've submitted the Title Update and Updates for both of the pubs, including notes as you've suggested. Thanks, Albinoflea 06:56, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

DAW Collectors publication series

I and a couple of other editors are trying to formalize the DAW Collectors Books publication series. The consensus is that we should include only those publications that explicitly list their DAW number, either on the cover, the spine, or the copyright page. This applies to, apparently, all first editions and to some reprint editions, but not to most of the reprints. You have verified several DAW reprint editions where the notes list the DAW number. However, I can't tell from the wording in the notes whether this number is listed because (i) it was actually stated on the book; or (ii) the number was inherited from other editions with the DAW number listed. If you have the time, I would appreciate it if you could check these reprints and when they have the number actually listed, update the notes to reflect that. For example, adding "(on cover)" or "(on copyright page)" to a phrase like "DAW Collectors No. 123". The publications you've verified that fall into this scenario are:

Thanks much, Chavey 18:51, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the help! I've added those two books to the publication series. Chavey 15:57, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Magazine list

Thanks for adding the appropriate links back to the database from the Wiki Magazine list. I'm wondering if perhaps it would look more organized if it were made into a table. At the moment, it's very cluttered. Lining up the various lists (wiki grid, db grid, db list, etc) into columns would help alot. It will take more effort, but would be easier to do while you're adding the missing links. If you don't have the time or inclination, let me know when you're finished with the links and I'll take a shot at it. Thanks. Mhhutchins 15:38, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Good Idea. I may play with the B's to figure out formatting and then back port it to the A's. Thanks Kevin 15:39, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Wiki Magazine tables

Just wanted you to know that I made a few minor changes to the Magazines page. I added a width attribute of 100% to make the tables consistent, and then changed the column widths from a fixed pixel width to a percentage. Those percentages can be adjusted if you feel any column should be wider than the figures I give. Using percentages instead of a fixed pixel width keeps the columns consistent from table to table regardless of the size of the user's monitor. I hope you don't mind my futzing with your work. You're doing the substantial work, and I'm just working on the aesthetics of the display. Feel free to revert the changes if they conflict with any future plans you may have in mind for the page. Mhhutchins 05:18, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Also, I've placed the "A" titles into a table, but not gone further than that. I see that you're moving the wiki page links from the Magazine category to the Series, so I won't mess with that. Thanks. 18:23, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Works for me. I've been busy for a few days. I'll finish up the table this weekend (if not tonight). - Thanks Kevin 22:20, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

"The Dangerous Days of Daniel X"

Your verified publication had developed a broken link for the cover photo. I replaced it with another Amazon link, but you should probably look at it and verify that this is the correct cover. Chavey 22:22, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Under the Green Star's Spell

You did third-level verification of In the Green Star's Glow. Whelan's Wonderworks has the following illustration labeled for a non-existent book and Hall3730 (primary verify) is not active anymore. Is the picture actually from In the Green Star's Glow? Thanks
link O'Fearna 12:32, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Yep. It's the first of 4. They are titled in the notes (Probably from Dragondelights verification). You are welcome to add the individual interior art items as contents items, so you can link the one singular piece which is present in the other book. - Thanks - Kevin 14:32, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh... and I found the source of the error. An 'Editor's Note' appears on page 183. It begins with a reprint of a letter from Lin Carter to Donald Wolheim. The first sentence reads "Unless the post office has goofed again, you should find enclosed herewith a bundle of manuscript which I have entitled In the Green Star's Spell.", So it appears that Spell was the original working title of this book when it was submitted to DAW. Kevin 14:45, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
I updated the pub record to add the "Editor's Note", the Appendix, and to also add a couple notes to match my copy in hand - Adding the editors note was important because it includes the working title "... Spell" (instead of 'Glow'). I've left linking or varianting or expanding the interior artwork contents for you. I'm not opposed to either solution (Linking the single interior artwork as a variant, (with a note) or adding 4 separate interior artwork records and linking just the single panel/page which is reprinted- Thanks, Kevin 15:47, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
I varianted the (wrongly titled) image from Wonderworks to the artwork from the Lin Carter novel (it's pending now...) -- LMK what you think of how I did that (BTW, the image has been yanked now that we've identified it). O'Fearna 03:00, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Looks fine to me. I approved the submission. Thanks, Kevin 05:14, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

History of the Necronomicon in Black Seas of Infinity

I'm changing the type of Lovecraft's "History of the Necronomicon" from ESSAY to SHORTFICTION since it is an in-universe essay and per this discussion. It appears in your verified publication Black Seas of Infinity . Please let me know if you have a problem with this change and we can discuss it further. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 02:21, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Barr's The Face and the Mask

I'm going to add a few more stories to your three verified listings for Robert Barr's The Face and the Mask. I'll be adding the stories that are detailed in Bleiler's The Guide to Supernatural Fiction. I'll also add the source to the notes where appropriate. I also wanted to inquire as to whether your primary verifications of the two earlier printings are from an actual book or from the Google and Internet Archive listings. I've been entering a bunch of books from those two sources and hadn't thought to do primary verifications. There was this discussion a while back which seems to indicate that those who chimed in would support primary verifications from such sources. If that's what you're doing I may as well do it too. Of course, if you've got actual copies, then please ignore my rambling on. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 02:19, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Ron - No Problem with the additional Spec-Fic contents. And yes, when I can provide a link to a permanently accessible (i.e. Google and Archive.org) set of scanned pages, I've been treating this as a primary verification for years so long as I provide the link. In some rarer cases when I may have access to a complete page scan set, that may not be available to the general public, or that may not be available permanently, I've been archiving a downloaded copy, and marking it as a primary verification with no additional comment. - Kevin 17:51, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

The Return

Is it possible that The Return's cover art is by THOMAS Tenery, not THOMSAS ? Susan O'Fearna 16:48, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

The Amazon Look-Inside clearly shows the credit as "Thomas Tenery". I have given Ofearna instructions to correct the publication record's credit. Mhhutchins 00:47, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Pain's Collected Tales: Volume One

In Collected Tales: Volume One, the 1916 Stokes edition, you had a note:

Bleiler (And the preface of the collection) indicate that this was originally published by Martin Secker out of London, though no online scans of that prior edition have been identified at this time (Kpulliam - Sept 2010)

SGale, however, found that edition for sale via BookFinder.com, describing binding, boards, etc., and added it and suggested removing your note in this edition. It seemed appropriate, so I have done that. Feel free to restore, or to restore in modified form, if you disagree. Thanks. --MartyD 12:18, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

If someone has verified its existence, then the note has served it's purpose. - Thanks - Kevin 23:22, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Falling Stars by Michael Flynn

I have a copy of this book from SFBC, but it is NOT their 'standard size', this one is 9.5 x 6.5 inches. It looks like a trade edition, except that it has a dust jacket with the book club ID#35609 printed in the lower right of the back, but no mention of it being a 'book club / SFBC edition and no pricing info. Copyright page looks to be a trade edition with ISBN, cataloging info and even a printing line. Also states First Edition: February 2001. According to my records I got this book from SFBC, but I don't have a date for when I got it. I was going to scan and upload the cover (Correct according to your note) to replace the linked Amazon scan, but the size has has thrown me off. I have gotten a few 'over sized' books from the club over the years, but not many, apparently this is one of them. Does any of this match your copy? Any thoughts? 98Nascar 17:49, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Yes. My copy is also a 'full size' edition exactly as you describe. Only the dust jacket distinguishes it from a normal trade edition. Thanks Kevin 21:23, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Camber of Culdi

In verifying this record, I noticed that the page numbering for the poem and the map was off by one so I have submitted a correction. --AliHarlow 18:23, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

I verify your correction. I've checked and the record (already updated) in the database matches my copy in hand. Poem on roman numeral page 11, and map on roman numeral page 12. Thanks and good catch. Kevin 21:24, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

X Stands for Unknown

In your verified X Stands for Unknown, I think there's one essay missing, "Big Brother" (between "X Stands for Unknown" and "Bread and Stone"). Could you please have a look? Darkday 19:17, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

You are correct and I have updated the publication accordingly, and merged the Title with it's earlier appearance in F&SF. - Thanks Kevin 23:52, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Starship Troopers Signet Cover Artist

Hello, noticed that the 1st printing has its covert artist attributed to John Schoenherr, and since this second printing cover is derived from the 1st we should probably update the attribution and merge the COVERART records. Thoughts? Albinoflea 02:30, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

I have updated the record accordingly. Thanks - Kevin 16:33, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

George MacDonald's The Portant

You've verified the Gutenberg copy of George Macdonald's The Portent: A Story of the Inner Vision of the Highlanders, Commonly Called the Second Sight and you've helpfully provided a link to the Gutenberg file. Looking at the HTML version, I think the title of the collection should probably be The Portent and Other Stories and should probably be merged with this title. The extended title appears to be the title of the stand-alone novel which we incorrectly have listed as a collection. Happily, there is a copy on the internet archive, so I've been able verify that novel was first published alone. I'm going to unmerge it from the Gutenberg collection, but I didn't want to change the title of the collection without checking with you first. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 02:05, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

I agree with the updates as described and see that you have already made them in my absence. - Thanks - Kevin 16:25, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Men Against the Stars

I have a copy of this pub that you verified. I took the liberty to change the name of the author of the story "Competition" from "E. Mayne Hull" to "E. M. Hull", because that's what is on the title page 37. Cheers, Patrick -- Herzbube Talk 17:38, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

I have no objection (other than noting that the title page is up on 161, not 37) and confirm the correction to the pseudonym. - Kevin 16:20, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, right, 161, sorry, must have copy&pasted this from somewhere :-) Thanks for the confirmation, and welcome back. Patrick -- Herzbube Talk 17:49, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
It's less back than waving as I pass by, but the sentiment is appreciated in the spirit it was offered. I'm around, just otherwise occupied with 'life'. Emails will get my attention if a quicker response is needed. - Kevin 03:54, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Assassins' Apprentice - amazon image drift?

You verified Robin Hoob's Assassin's Apprentice 15th printing. I noticed that the 1st printing image is wrong and should be replaced by the one from 10th printing. I suspect the 15th printing is also incorrect. DStandsh 00:41, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

You are correct. It appears Amazon image update has struck again. I have deleted the reference link to the amazon artwork, leaving the correct attribution to Whelan. - Kevin 16:13, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Clyde Cauldwell

Would you mind double checking the artist on your verified There Will Be Dragons? This is the only record under this name. Amazon Look Inside shows the ebook credit as Clyde Caldwell (no "u") which is a frequent Baen artist. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 01:03, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

You are correct. I have corrected the listing to the no 'u' spelling. I confirmed that both the dust jacket and the copyright page both show 'Caldwell'. - Thanks - Kevin 16:08, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Pellucidar Artwork

Is there interior artwork in Pellucidar, the 1972 Ace edition? I have been entering a number of Frazetta art books and there are a number of Pellucidar illustrations that appear to be connected to this pub you verified. Bob 19:39, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Voyage

Hello, can you confirm the printing line of your verified pub. If it's indeed "10-3", it's likely the same as this other third printing. Hauck 12:07, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Ah. I typoed the pub clone and added 'fourth' but left '--3'. I see there is now another 4th printing record, so I will remove my duplicate pub. Thanks. Kevin 16:12, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Star Science Fiction Stories

Hi. Regarding your verified pub, if you go by the ISFDB page standards, shouldn't the total pages of the pub be 202+[1] and the page number of the content "About Frederik Pohl" be [203]? The last numbered page and the end of the novel is 202. The "About" is unnumbered, immediately after p. 202. Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 17:58, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

This book is in storage. I will check as soon as possible. - Kevin 16:29, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Derleth's Far Boundaries

I've made a few changes to August Derleth's anthology Far Boundaries.

  • I've added the subtitle to the publication record.
  • I've added the overall introduction and the section introductions that we were missing.
  • I've corrected the credit for the John Wyndham story from "John Benyon" to "John Benyon Harris"
  • I've added the Reginald number, the LCCN and linked the Worldcat number.

Updating dates of content records

When you imported the contents from a 2009 publication into this 1956 publication, the dates of the content records should have been changed to reflect the earlier of the two dates. (This was discovered by a clean-up report which finds such discrepancies between content dates and publication dates.) Thanks. Mhhutchins 06:24, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Fixed. Thanks! Kevin 12:29, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

The Golden Age

A couple of problems with this publication record: The ISBN-13 wasn't created until 2005. Also, the source of the data isn't noted. Mhhutchins 06:17, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Added a note. Saw that the ISBN had already been fixed. Thanks. I wasn't thinking about the age of the work when I was entering it for a 2013 award. Kevin 19:23, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Heatherington vs Hetherington

Would you mind double checking the cover artist credit on this pub? The other verified pub with the same cover has the last name as Hetherington vs. your Heatherington. The Forgotten Star

In your verified The Forgotten Star, the cover artist is listed twice. Was this intended? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:46, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

It certainly wasn't intentional. I admit though, I don't see the (obvious) way to fix the problem. I deleted the second artist record, however I don't see the correct way to remove the second cover record frmo the publication so I can delete it. (I'm rather out of the loop on the cover art improvements over the past couple years). I'd appreciate a pointer in removing it. Thanks Kevin 22:52, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Removing the cover artist credit in an update of the publication record automatically deletes the cover art record. (This is a relatively recent function.) Mhhutchins 23:19, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
But since they both had the same name.... when I removed one.. it left both. (A bug, but one rare enough it's probably not worth tracking down). Now with your clue, I went back and removed both. Then added back the single. This fixed the problem. Thanks! Kevin 23:36, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, I forgot to say that if they're identical, you have to remove both, as you discovered on your own. Mhhutchins 01:28, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Marsh's Both Sides of the Veil

I've converted Richard Marsh's Both Sides of the Veil which we had as a novel, into a collection. I've also only listed the contents reviewed in Bleiler. The Year After Tomorrow

Publication Series Winston Science Fiction - Bibliography does not include The Year After Tomorrow: An Anthology of Science Fiction Stories. I wonder whether that is a mistake. You are the only verifier of the only publication of that title Publ 50678, thus probably the author of the last Note on that page, which implies this volume should be included in the series list. At Wikipedia it is the last-listed entry for 1954, a position that would make it #26 here. --Pwendt|talk 22:50, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

Dreamer: A Novel of the Silent Empire

The primary verifier isn't participating; I don't know if you still have access to the pub. But the cover artist is given as Youll. The cover art appears in Visions by Luis Royo. I'm going to change the cover artist, based on this evidence. If you have a problem with this change, please feel free to change it back. Bob 17:25, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Sorry. I'm afraid this book went to the used bookstore long ago. Kevin 20:43, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

The Notebooks of Lazarus Long

I own The Notebooks of Lazarus Long just as you do, however apparently your copy of the "sixth impression" is priced at $5.95 while my copy of the "sixth impression" is priced at $7.95. I've contacted Mhhutchins and they said "Clone the record for Kpulliam's primary verified copy, and proceed to make the necessary changes to make the record match the copy you have in your hand. (This message would have better been posted on the talk page for Kevin Pulliam, so that you two could determine whether his record may be in error.)" Do you wish to confirm the price on your copy and edit the record if necessary or should I proceed with cloning the record as suggested by Mhhutchins? Blargg 04:48, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

You are correct. I've updated the record accordingly. My copy does have a list price of $7.95. - Thanks Kevin 14:32, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Changes needed to Assassin's Quest?

Hi, I recently verified the 7th printing of Assassin's Quest and noticed that the 14th printing you verified seems to need some updates.

1) You used the generic Amazon link for the cover, [here], and this has now changed to the new Alejandro Colucci cover which was released in mid-2014. It looks like yours had the older Steven Youll cover, so the link needs to be updated. The image that was on Amazon at the time you verified this was [this one]. The cover seems to have remained pretty much the same over the years, except for the part just under the author's name where it says "Author of xxxx." If you need another image, I will be glad to look through the Internet Archive for a link to one.

2) Does your version also include a map and an excerpt of Ship of Magic, like the 7th printing? If it does, may I add them to your version?

Thanks! BungalowBarbara 05:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Throne of Jade

For Throne of Jade I've replaced the Amazon cover art with a scan of my copy, updated the Page Count and specified the source of the Cover Artist. Can you check the Canadian price as my copy has it as $9.99. If yours is $10.99 as stated in the Notes then I'll create a clone. --AndyjMo 21:54, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

I no longer have access to this book, so I've removed my verification. Thanks Kevin 03:45, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

The Door Into Summer

Not a change to your verified pub per se, but I've been going through many pubs of The Door Into Summer and capitalising the "into" to "Into". Thanks. PeteYoung 02:31, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Treason

Hi. Could you take a look at this conversation in regards to one of your verified pubs of "Treason". Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 18:04, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

"Arabesques: Monarè, Apollyona, Domitia, Ombra", by Mrs. Richard S. Greenough

I made a couple of additions to your verified publication. I added a cover image (one of the two bindings, with a note about which one this was). L.W. Currey currently has a copy of this book (in the plain binding) for sale, and he discusses the two different bindings, so added some of his comments to our notes. Chavey 21:15, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Cinderella, Inc. vs Cinderella, Inc

Hi, I've merged Cinderella, Inc with Cinderella, Inc. as the copyright page indicated that it was a 1952 story and though it is mentioned as 'Cinderella, Inc' in the TOC it says 'Cinderella, Inc.' on the title page.--Dirk P Broer 13:49, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Question about "The Mysterious Stranger"

In an anthology you verified, Vampires ed. Alan Ryan, there's a story called "The Mysterious Stranger" which has the date in the database of 1823. Now, the editor of Dracula's Precursors says that this story was "originally published in German in 1823 and translated into English soon after" and Michael Sims, editor of Dracula's Guest, says it was first published in English in 1860. If this is true, then the story should have the date of 1860 in the database (and should be merged with this record). By the way, according to Douglas A. Anderson, this story is a translation of Karl von Wachsmann's "Der Fremde", whose earliest known publication date is 1844, but that doesn't affect the question of its earliest publication in English.

Anyhow, my point is, could you take a look at your book and see if it gives any reason to think this story was published in English earlier than 1860? After I collect replies from other verifiers, I'll either merge these records or not. Thanks! --Vasha 19:10, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Found more info: Here's Mike Ashley in Vampires: Classic Tales (2011). "When this story first appeared in translation in England, in Chambers's Repository for February 1854, it bore no author credit and has remained anonymous until now. [Footnote: I am indebted to Douglas A. Anderson and Thomas Honegger for tracing the identity of the author of this story and for providing background details.] Its original source was unknown and when Montague Summers included it in his anthology Victorian Ghost Stories in 1934, he wrongly dated it 1860. As a consequence, the story has been robbed of its true importance. It first appeared in Germany in 1844 and is therefore the earliest known vampire story to be est in the Carpathian mountains, the setting for Dracula's castle." --Vasha 00:31, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

Face of the Enemy

The artist credit for [this] may be wrong. I have a copy, for now, that is cropped differently from the image in the record [from M. Hauck] and there is a portion of a signature in the bottom right corner. What's visible is 'BOB', exactly as that by Bob Larkin. You're PV is transient, but if you still have a copy can you look? The image shown in amazon's 'Look-Inside' shows the signature. I can see more of it on the copy but just a bit more. Thanks. --~ Bill, Bluesman 17:08, 16 July 2017 (EDT)

HathiTrust Digital Library (tag)

Hi. I have barely used title tags but consider using some of them systematically. I wonder what you hope to do with "HathiTrust Digital Library", which has no other users now. Do you hope to keep it private in effect?

I see that does not mean you have Primary Verified a publication from its e-copy at HDL, for the one whose publication I open is thus verified by Rtrace only (collection I Saw Three Ships).

What Not, A Prophetic Comedy

A quick note re: your verified What Not, A Prophetic Comedy. Your note reads, in part:

  • Apparently there was a legal problem with some part of the text due to the end of the war, and some information had to be tipped or pasted in elsewhere in the book and the distribution of the book was delayed until well into 1919.

According to SFE3:

  • Although a few copies of the 1918 version exist [...], this first printing was withdrawn after an offended newspaper magnate (possibly Lord Beaverbrook) threatened to sue for libel: the two passages in question portray a newspaper proprietor attempting political blackmail. With some (rather mild) paragraphs rewritten, the novel was republished the next year, and bibliographies usually date the book 1919.

I am going to replace your sentence with the SFE3 quote since it's more detailed and also explains that the 1919 printing wasn't the first edition. Ahasuerus 15:33, 11 February 2019 (EST)

Podkayne of Mars

Would you consider this publication to be a duplicate of your verified publication? A major difference would be the ISBN vs. publisher's catalog number, but my 9th printing has the catalogue number on the cover and the SBN (not ISBN) on the copyright page and spine. I don't know what's on your copy, but thought I'd pass on the thought. ../Doug H 23:09, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

Greetings, I was about to verify I. Asimov: A Memoir and immediately noticed that the pub record Cover Bucket credits Jill Krementz and Al Nagy. According to the copyright page and the rear flap, "Jacket photograph copyright © by Jill Krementz". "Jacket design by Al Nagy".
