Welcome!

Hello, Kezzz, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 03:25, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Barker's Books of Blood 1-3

The submission to add this record was accepted, but some changes were made in order for it to comply with ISFDB standards (those standards are in the help pages linked in the Welcome section above).

  • The title was changed to match the OCLC record.
  • The date of publication was obtained from Amazon.co.uk
  • The publisher was changed to Little, Brown UK so that it won't be confused the the US publisher of the same name.
  • The page count field was changed from "481" to "149+150+182" based on the OCLC record which gives that each volume of the omnibus was separately paginated.
  • Binding was changed from "HB" to "hc", the ISFDB standard for hardcover

I also linked the image from Amazon.co.uk, and will be importing the contents from other ISFDB records. If you have this book, please check out the changes to see if they agree with your copy. If so, do a primary verification of the record (explained in a link in the Welcome section.) Thanks and welcome again to the ISFDB. Mhhutchins 03:49, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Adding books to the database and other guidelines

There have been some problems with your latest submissions:

  • When a title is already in the database, go to its record and click the link "Add Publication to This Title". Only use the "Add New Novel" etc. link on the main page if the copy is not in the database. Otherwise, you're creating a new title which will have to be merged with the existing title.
  • Use "hc" for hardcover publications, not "HC".
  • You must give the source for your data in the record's "Note" field unless you're working from a book in hand. In that case, you must let the moderator know in the "Note to Moderator" field.
  • You entered the link to the Amazon page for Danse Macabre. You should only enter the URL of the image in the Cover URL field.
  • Danse Macabre was entered as a NOVEL. It should be NONFICTION.

Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 19:41, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Comments noted and acted upon. Apologies for the error with Danse Macabre.

Cover artist field

You should only give the name of the artist in the Artist1 field. If there is more than one artist responsible click on the "Add Artist" button. Do not add anything like "Illustration", "Cover Art", etc. Only the person's name. Thanks. Mhhutchins 16:14, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. Noted for future reference :)

Thinner

I accepted the submission to add this record, but had to change the author credit based on the OCLC record. Are you certain that the book is credited to Stephen King? All author and title credit must come from the title page of the book, so will you please check how it is credited there? Thanks. Mhhutchins 16:29, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Communicating between editors and moderators, and other important information

  • It is important to respond to questions left here on your talk page. Just click on the [edit] link to the right of the message. A dialog box will open. Enter your response, and then "sign" it using one of the icons at the top of the box (or enter four tildes.)
  • Do not use the "Note to Moderator" field to ask questions and to provide information about the book. That field should be used solely to provide information about the submission itself. Any questions should be asked at theHelp Desk (bookmark that page). Any data provided in the "Note to Moderator" field will be deleted once the submission has been accepted. If you want the data to be a permanent part of the record, you must add it to the "Note" field.
  • Another important page to bookmark: this is perhaps the most important help page and should provide you with most of the instructions you need to create and update records.
  • Remember, do not edit a record which has been Primary Verified before notifying the editor whose name is linked in the Verification Status list under Primary. Most active editors will have a notification preference statement at the top of their talk pages. Use that as a guideline to determine when, or if, you should make an edit which changes a Primary Verified record.

Stephen King Omnibus

Re this publication: Many sources give the title as Stephen King Omnibus 2. What is the exact title as given on the book's title page?

Also, I've changed the title from The Eyes Of The Dragon/Firestarter to The Eyes of the Dragon / Firestarter. You should use standard rules of capitalization (outlined on the help page I've linked above), and separate the titles with a space, a slash, and a space.

One last thing: when adding an omnibus, you have to add content records for each of the titles contained in the book. I'll add one for each novel. Thanks. Mhhutchins 16:59, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

I've also added a publication date and sourced it in the Note field, and changed the name of the publisher to the ISFDB standard for the UK division of this publisher. Is there a price printed on the book? Mhhutchins 17:02, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
